American Battleships and Battle Cruisers

American Navy

The American Navy was at best small at the start of World War 2, due mainly to the Naval Treaty of Limitations, restricting the maximum tonnage per vessel.
Regardless of this the US Navy had an impressive Battleship fleet, and an even smaller Battle Cruiser class.
The Battleship Fleet suffered its greatest tragedy at Pearl harbor with the mortally wounding of 14 of 18 battleships and the sinking of the USS Arizona. The US didn't build battleships over the duration of the war except the Iowa class. No Battle Cruisers where constructed during the war as the Lexington class which was the last B. Cruiser class, became a carrier class instead.
There are currently no Battleships in service, and no plans to produce anymore.
