You can call him arrogant, you can call him a suck up, or you can call him
a bully, but there no denying that the Coach has skills – athletic skills.
The McPherson College grad played three sports in high school, and went on
to excel in basketball. The two-time NAIA All-American was also a
three-time Conference Player of the Year, and until recently, was his
college alma mater’s all-time leading scorer.
Still, a lot of fans were surprised when they witnessed Coach defeat Tajiri at Backlash 2004. But for those who were familiar with Coach’s pre-WWE days, this performance was a long time coming. The electrifying announcer with the booming voice, was initially the host of Sunday Night HEAT, along with Al Snow. At SummerSlam ’03, Coach shocked the world when he sided with Eric Bischoff during the RAW GM’s match against Shane McMahon. After showing his true colors, the Coach began a crusade to steal away the RAW announce duties from Jim Ross. At one point, he and Snow actually won the rights to the Monday night broadcast, only to lose them shortly thereafter. Since then, Coachman has made a living out of ingratiating himself to Bischoff, by doing whatever it takes to keep his job. The Wichita native even tried to run Bischoff’s nephew, Eugene, off of RAW. He has also aligned himself with Garrison Cade, often seconding the up-and-comer to the ring, and calling on him for help when his mouth gets him in over his head. |
