Career Highlights: Voice of Monday Night RAW

When fans hear the OU fight song, they know that two things are going to happen. For one, the greatest announcer in the industry is making his way to the announce table, and secondly, the most exciting show on Monday nights is about to begin.

Over the last 11 years, Good Ole’ J.R. has called all of the greatest matches in WWE. His voice has become synonymous with action and excitement. The gentleman under the 200X black Resistol hat actually began his career in sports entertainment many years before he arrived in WWE – the Oklahoma native announced for Bill Watts’ Mid-South/UWF, NWA, and later WCW. During that time, he earned himself a reputation as a knowledgeable play-by-play man with quick wit and attention to detail.

In 1993, Ross left his position as radio play-by-play man for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons to accept a job at WWE. At WrestleMania IX in Las Vegas, Nevada, J.R. made his first appearance, sporting a toga and a pair of sandals. Since then, J.R. has established himself as the premier play-by-play broadcaster in the business. His many quips, and stories from his years in the business have fascinated fans every month in his Raw Magazine column, “Ross From Ringside,” and he’s also written two successful cookbooks, featuring recipes from both himself, and many of the WWE Superstars.

Usually, JR spends most of his time behind the microphone, but on several occasions, he’s been forced to don the OU sweat suit, and get into the ring, to fend off foes like Eric Bischoff and Coach. He’s even left his job on several occasions due to the hatred Bischoff and he have for each other. Despite these trials, J.R. perseveres. His wit and unique play-by-play style have endured all, and when he one day decides to call it quits, it is likely that Good Ole’ J.R. will go down as the absolute best sports-entertainment broadcast-journalist ever.
