"I can win
an argument on any topic, against any opponent. People know this, and
steer clear of me at parties. Often, as a sign of their great respect,
they don't even invite me."
--Dave Barry (1947 - ) |
~~And
it all backfires...well, not all of it. Tacit, our hero of
resolve, skill, and intellect, did indeed end up with the girl, much
like the plot lines of cheesy 80's movies and those horrid, horrid teen
movies of the 90s. But it isn't all sunshine and lazy beach
dreams for our mighty decorated hero, oh no. What we find in the
future of this, if you will, explosive duo is a lot of hard work and
team-forging.
Their lot isn't one of love. Theirs is of vengence.
But what vengence is there to be served? The better man always
comes out on top, doesn't he? No, no, no...in our sick little
world, even those with the even remotest chance of winning sometimes
pull off the win. But those are just battles.
Battles were won, but the war is far from over.
This is a war that has just begun. As the tensions arrise, we
find our explosive team of wrestlers are just starting out. The
war began when Tacit won the Television Title...for the third
time. That was when the lines were drawn, and Tacit vowed never
to willingly lose his title again.
With stars in his eyes, and anger in his heart, he set off to become
the next ASW World Champion...and lost his shot. Where does that
put him now? Back to where he began...the ASW TV Champion.
The men he's fought off of his title have either faded away into
obscurity, or moved onto greener pastures. And it burns.
It burns him that the men that he beat...the men that he destroyed when
they tried cutting into his action..moved beyond his reach. The
contendor spot for the ASW World Championship is filled with guys that
Tacit could or, in the case of Sonny, did beat. The Canadian
Championship contendors? It's beginning to look to be the same
way. Stretched across that same canvas is The Dominator.
Tacit lost to Sanders.
The whole situation pisses him off. He proves he's better, and he
gets left behind...left behind for one botched match. But that
gives him his resolve. That gives him familiar targets.
That gives him shots in places no one ever dreamed he could go.
That gives him, the man who vowed to be a loner in the connection-tied
universe of ASW, the strange freak occurance to team up with the most
unlikely of all wrestlers...a woman. But she isn't any normal
woman...she's the brightest diamond in the entire bunch. She
accomplished what the rest of them couldn't...a brain that works
without having to feed any gerbils.
But the fighting has turned back to the homefront. The fighting
is back in the TV Title division.~~
TACIT: Do you know what he called me?!
~~We fade into a shot of the Haven office. Tacit's ass is on the desk,
his feet are propped up on the back of the chair, and
his ear is plugged into a cell phone. He sits in nothing but mesh
shorts with a towel draped over his shoulders. A pair of running
shoes and kicked-off socks lay on the floor, next to a crumpled and
sweaty t-shirt. O'Brian lays on the couch sucking at a plastic
straw hanging out of a paper cup. Tacit continues on the phone.~~
TACIT: He said I was one of the greatest
wrestlers the ASW has ever seen! Talk about balls. The kid
gets his shot at taking my title, and he responds by complimenting
me. It's sort of confusing...it's like he's gonna try to drown me
with compliments.
O'BRIAN: Maybe he's just a nice guy.
~~Tacit
glances at O'Brian blankly, and then returns to the phone.~~
TACIT: I know this
tactic...he's going to try to make me soft. He's going to try to
play me up like I have the advantage...make me think I'm in control of
the situation. He's a clever one, this "Kamikaze', but he can't
fool me. I'm onto him.
~~Tacit jumps off the desk and
paces around the room, answering the otherside of the line with the
occasional grunt.~~
O'BRIAN: He's an honorable fighter. Just
leave it at that.
~~Tacit
paces around the room, ignoring O'Brian and giving his full attention
to the phone.~~
TACIT:...and that's just what I plan to
do. Overcome this nice guy, show the world that this title is
mine and mine alone, and then move on, once again, to claim more
territory.
~~Tacit
nods to the phone.~~
TACIT: That's right, babe. TNT is
gonna get the respect that it deserves, and there ain't a damn thing
anyone can do about it. Crying shame that we have to be the
clean-up...uh...persons...but that's what they got. They defied
us. And, to make matters worse, we lost to...Sanders.
~~Tacit stops and shakes his head.~~
TACIT: It was a fluke! They got
lucky, that's all. Next time they won't be so lucky. And
they want the Tag Titles...we can't let that happen. I don't give
a damn about those titles, but I'd rather not see them in the hands of
Sanders and whats-his-name. Yeah, yeah...they're one step closer,
what with beating us and all, but thats all the further they're gonna
get.
~~Tacit turns around and notices
the camera for the first time.~~
TACIT: Uh, I gotta get going. Talk
to ya later, babe.
~~He
pauses a moment, and then slaps the cell phone shut. He turns to
O'Brian.~~
TACIT: Why didn't you tell me they were
ready for the promo?
~~O'Brian
shrugs.~~
O'BRIAN: I did, but you
ignored me and-
~~Tacit turns to the camera, not
letting O'Brian finish.~~
O'BRIAN: -and you did that. Why
do I even show up for promos anymore?
TACIT: So, Kamikaze, you have
climbed to the summit of Mt. Superstar and found the pinacle match of
your career...where you can finally break out of the rat race and
become something much, much more...adorn yourself with the prestige of
being crowned TV's most honorable of titles, stand in front of the
screaming millions as much more than the simple Cruiserweight Champion,
drape both shoulders with gold...but in order to do all that, you must
defeat the master at the top. You come ready to be taught.
I happen to wait, ready to teach.
~~Tacit puts the cell phone down on
the desk and sits down in the chair.~~
TACIT: I have no disrespect for
you. Normally I would start things off by insulting you and
everything you stand for, even if you didn't say or do anything to
me. But not this time...I've learned from my mistakes, and I'm
ready to give you what you deserve.
~~Tacit wags his index finger in
front of the camera.~~
TACIT: And I don't mean a
well-place boot to the head. No, no. You deserve much more
respect than that. You are, afterall, the ASW Cruiserweight
Champion. Technically, I could go after your title...I just
happen to meet the requirements...but I leave that to you. You
have earned your place, and I will not take that from you. You
are the Golden Child of the ASW's Smallest and Fastest, a skinny guy
who really will fight until he's burger. I do not doubt the
mastery of your technical skills, but you now face me. You will
have to fight hard, but I don't doubt that you can do it. I have
faith that you are of TV Championship material...but, from my angle, I
must defend my title, and I will go down swinging if needed.
~~O'Brian clears his throat.
Tacit turns to him with a questioning look on his face.~~
TACIT: Yes, O'Brian?
O'BRIAN: What are you doing?
Normally you'd be sitting in a chair wrenching your hands and calmly
tearing apart everything your opponent said or could possibly be
thinking. But now you're just acting weird.
~~Tacit smiles, holding out his
point-making finger to make a point.~~
TACIT: Patience,
my young Irishman. In time, all things become clear...but as the
pool clears, we find only more questions. As with all things,
your question will be answered with more questions. Therefore the
only true course of action is to not question, only accept.
O'BRIAN: What?
~~Tacit turns back to the camera as
if nothing was said. O'Brian rolls over and pulls a magazine over
his head.~~
O'BRIAN: Whatever. I'm going to take a
nap. Wake me if anything happens.
~~Tacit smiles and clasps his hands
together.~~
TACIT: Excellent. Now you're
learning. And I intend on instructing you, young Kamikaze, in the
ways of the true ASW Champion. There are many, many people who
can successfully pull off faking their Championhood, and this clever
action deserves credit in itself, but there is something missing with
all those men. They truly do not understand the way of the
warrior, much like you and I easily do. I can see in your
eyes...as you usually wear that mask and it's all I can see of your
face...that you truly understand how a true fighter is to fight-
~~O'Brian mumbles over his shoulder
out loud.~~
O'BRIAN: Like how a true fighter convinces his
opponent that the true fighter is many miles away, and then the true
fighter hits him in the back of the head with a chair.
~~Tacit ignores O'Brian.~~
TACIT: You will come expecting a
great fight, and I will not let you down. I, too, will be giving
much more than normal for this fight...I will bring 150% of myself to
this fight, and I expect you to do the same. We are both young
fighters and, although I am currently the champion you seek to be, we
are coming to this match on equal terms. Champion versus Champion
in an all-out battle for the TV Title. You have nothing to lose
in this fight, and I have it all to lose. I will not let you down
and give you half a fight...that is not the way a true warrior
fights. I am the next evolution in wrestling, I am Darwins great
next step, and I am here to teach you the true way to be
Champion. Come, Kamikaze, give it your best shot, and may the
better man win!
~~O'Brian rolls over.~~
O'BRIAN: Wait, are you trying to drown him with
compliments? Mike, I don't think that'll wor-
~~Tacit claps his hands together.~~
TACIT: Well, that's all the time we have
for today! Come back some other time for more bits of wisdom from
your ASW Television Champion!
~~And we fade ...rather
quickly...to black. So ends another episode of From The Mind of Tacit. Tune in next time for more wacky
hi-jinks and important life lessons.~~ |
