The Foreign Object by Peter Stanforth!

" 2009 - A new year, or more of the same? " By Petey Staniforth

When a year ends, we all look back and cast a thought over what we did right and wrong. We look back to the memories that are good, and the mistakes we regret and don't want to make again. As a promoter (Power Trip Wrestling), as a manager for other promotions, I know I certainly have a lot to look back on from 2008.

From June 2008 onwards, it all suddenly took quite a turn for the better. To be sure, mistakes were made by myself still; but I have a lot of good I can draw from, and build upon. For those of you who have always wondered, I can guarantee you that at whatever level a promotion is being run at; there's a hell of a lot of stories that you won't get to hear, and a lot of events you'll simply never know about. I guess, quite possibly, that it's one of the things that make this business as interesting as it can often be.

So is 2009 the year that wrestling as a whole will become better? Probably not.

Is any year in the future, the year that it will happen? Probably not.

Because to me, everything progresses at it's own pace. Everything that can, will, and does happen; happens for some kind of reason we can't always appreciate at the time. This business, 'our' wrestling business as a whole; will always be filled with up's and down's, with positive aspects, and with negative too; and it will always be what I personally term as "swings...and spinny things". Where for every thing that goes right, two will go wrong; and vice versa.

Is professional wrestling in the UK (and the world itself) on the up? Generally, I feel it might be; but I wouldn't want to give a definitive answer to that. Plenty of people are trying to make a difference, but the sad thing is there will always be those that are out for themselves with nothing but selfishness in their mind. I have a simple belief, and that is that realistically, unless you've got a lot of money to put into it in the first place; there is no money to be made right now from what we do.

So, to me, as long as you're not out of pocket financially; we should be just grateful to be able to do what we do, and to appreciate we are truly blessed to be involved in what is one of the craziest, and liveliest emotional rollercoasters that there is in this life - professional wrestling.

And as long as you're in this game for what I personally consider to be the right reasons, with the entertainment of the fans in your mind foremost; and looking to help others and keep and gain valued friendships - then every year will be a good year, and one that is better than the last; however much the numbers in it change.
