The Fourth Of July…
A day to remember what our four fathers did for this
country…
A day to forget about every f*cking year.
***The scene opens in a
garage of a white home somewhere in Weslaco Texas. The garage looks dusty, old, cluttered…all and all it’s just like
a normal garage owed by anyone in America.
Slowly the scene moves through out the garage. Pictures, tools, and other pieces of material are found through
out the dusty place. Suddenly a noise
is heard from the other side of the garage door.***
***FLASH***
***The garage door opens…a
man walks into the garage with a trash bag in his right hand. He’s wearing an old “Metallica” T-shirt as
well as some faded blue jeans. The man
starts to walk around the garage slowly looking around at everything
there. Out of the blue the man drops
the trash bag…he stops directly at a picture.
The man picks it up. After a few
seconds gazing at the picture he shakes his head.***
***FLASH***
***The scene moves to a direct
shot at the picture…it shows a man being carried out on a stretcher covered in
blood…the man in the picture is wearing a black suit…kind of like you would
wear if you were getting married. In
the far back ground of the picture we can see a woman with a wedding dress on
walking behind the stretcher. Her
make-up is messed up a bit. It’s easy
to tell she had been crying.***
***FLASH***
***The man places the picture
back down. An upset look forms on his
face…we finally realize who the man is that is standing in the garage…as well
as the man in the picture…it’s none other than David Dunn.***
DUNN: I can remember that moment like if it happened a week ago.
***David picks up the trash bag he dropped. He starts to collect different things laying around and placing them in the back.***
DUNN: All these years I’ve been to involved with my own life too just step back for a few seconds and look what I’ve done to my family. I don’t think I was too bad with Wilson…yet…Jeannette…god…I still can’t believe she’s still with me. Hell I still can remember the day before our wedding. I went to her house to see her…
***FLASH BACK***
***The scene opens in a small home
in Chapel Hill Tennessee. There in the small home we find a man knocking on the
home's front door. That man is David Dunn.***
DUNN: Come on be home.
***David knocks again. Finally
someone opens the door. To David's joy the person that opened the door was his
new love, Jeannette.***
JEANNETTE: Hey!
***Jeannette grabs David and
hugs him.***
JEANNETTE: What a great surprise. I
thought I wasn't going to see you till Tuesday.
DUNN: I just had to see you. I
couldn't really train with out seeing your beautiful face again.
JEANNETTE: Ah. You're so sweet. Hey
you want to come in for a while. Maybe we could have some coffee or something.
DUNN: Sure that would be great.
***Jeannette leads David into
her home. They walk into Jeannette's living room where David notices an urn on
top of a mantle.***
JEANNETTE: Coffee fine with you?
DUNN: Yeah.
***Jeannette walks into the kitchen to fix the coffee. David walks over to the mantle and starts playing with the urn. He throws it hand to hand till....***
JEANNETTE: (Yelling from the kitchen) Do you want sugar in your coffee?
***David drops the urn. It
spills over and opens. Ashes fall out of the urn.***
DUNN: Jeannette....about this
urn...
JEANNETTE: Nice in isn't it. It contains
my great grand father. It's been pasted down from family member to family
member.
DUNN: (Speaking softly) Oh
sh*t.
***David uses his hand and tries to sweep the ashes back into the urn but there thrown everywhere. What's left on the ground David grabs a near by rug and throws it over on top of it. David then quickly puts the urn back on the mantle just as Jeannette enters the room with the coffee.***
DUNN: Yeah this urn must really be
old. It's nice though.
JEANNETTE: Are your shoes a bit dirty?
DUNN: Why do you ask? (David starts to sweat)
JEANNETTE: Because the floor looks
a little dusty.
DUNN: (Thinking) Oh sh*t she's
going to find out. My one chance at love and I'm f*cking it up right and left.
Please god you f*cking piece of sh*t. Don't let me f*ck this up.
***Jeannette walks away for a few seconds and then returns with a Dirty Devil. She plugs the cord into the outlet and starts to vacuum up the ashes.***
DUNN: (Thinking) If I wasn't going
to hell then I am sure as hell going now. This reminds me of the song by AC/DC.
"I'm on a Highway to Hell!"
***Jeannette finishes and leaves the room to puts up the vacuum. She then walks back into the room and sits next to David.***
***FLASH BACK ENDS***
DUNN: Damn…I don’t even think I told her about that…sh*t…she’s still carrying around a half empty urn.
***David shakes his head trying
to forget about it.***
DUNN: I…I still don’t know why she stayed with me all this time. I’ve been a total ass*ole. I’ve destroyed her life…at least I think so. Other people have normal lives…with normal jobs…which all started with normal dates….and a normal wedding. What did I give her? I dumped her grandfather’s ashes into a dirt devil, destroyed our beautiful wedding all because of a title and my foolish pride…I pushed her away…told her off…yelled at her…hell I did everything but damn near kick the sh*t out of her. Ah f*ck!
***David grabs the picture frame
and smashes it against a nearby wooden table.
David goes nuts trashing anything in sight.***
***FLASH***
***Footsteps are heard coming
closer to the garage until finally a woman enters the scene. She’s wearing a while shirt with tight blue
jeans. It appears to be Jeannette
Dunn.***
JEANNETTE: What the hell is going on here David?!
***David look towards Jeannette. Slowly he relaxes and drops a piece of glass that he had in his left hand.***
DUNN: Nothing honey…I’m fine. Just need to relieve some stress you know.
***Jeannette looks over at
David…a single tear slides down his eye to his cheek.***
JEANNETTE: Bullsh*t.
I know where you’re lying to me David.
What the hell were you thinking when you did all this?
***Jeannette looks on the ground next to David. She sees a shattered picture frame with the picture of there wedding in it.***
JEANNETTE: Is that what’s all this is about? Because you didn’t like one of our wedding
photo’s?
***David wipes the tear from his
face.***
DUNN: It’s not about the photo Jeannette. It’s about what happened that night. I destroyed your wedding day. Since that day…I’ve just added more pain to this marriage. I think of all the mistakes I’ve made in the past, all the things that would have turned out great if I just hadn’t been such a fool.
JEANNETTE: You’re not a fool sweetie.
DUNN: Sure I am. I let my career get in the way of what’s right and what’s wrong.
JEANNETTE: Honey…your career is who you are. You went out there to try to be the best at
something you were good at. I
personally think you’ve proved that.
DUNN: I don’t think so. Honestly I haven’t done anything really special.
JEANNETTE: Anything really special? In a time span of ten months you’ve won
every title in the BJWC. Then you took
control over the company and did a better job than any one else had. Now look at you. Your wrestling in the PNW for the Heavyweight title. What more do you want?
DUNN: So? It doesn’t matter. Honestly…wrestling has brought me nothing but hardships. I’ve stood by and watch Wilson suffer…and…most importantly I’ve seen you suffer as well. I’ve seen other wrestlers suffer…it’s not worth anything any more Jeannette. I just feel like…like…if I should just retire. Not like most wrestlers, like Hogan or HBK. Leave for a year or so then come back. No, I mean retire for good. I’m just so sick of wrestling. My drive has been shot to hell as of late.
***Jeannette walks over to David
and places her arms around him.***
JEANNETTE: I don’t blame you for any of that
David. I knew what you did for a living
when I married you. I knew you are quite
cold when it came to wrestling and you could be an ass*ole. But I also knew how you were around me. You were sweet, kind, and very loving. That’s what matters to me. None of this bullsh*t wrestling stuff.
***David look at Jeannette’s
face.***
DUNN: Do you really mean that honey?
JEANNETTE: Yes I do David.
***David hugs Jeannette.***
JEANNETTE: Now can you do me a favor honey?
DUNN: I’m going to finish the garage I promise sweetie.
JEANNETTE: No.
I don’t want you to retire. I
want you to stay in the wrestling business and do something you love as long as
you can do it.
DUNN: Why?
JEANNETTE: Well for one I want everyone to know that
I’m married to the best damn wrestler in the world.
DUNN: Thanks honey, I need to hear that from someone today. I love you.
JEANNETTE: Oh you’re sweet. I love you too. Oh and
don’t forget about the Fourth of July
part were throwing for Wilson tomorrow.
DUNN: God I hate the Fourth of July…
JEANNETTE: What was that?
DUNN: Nothing sweetie.
***Jeannette waves good-bye to
David and walks back to the house.***
DUNN: I don’t know what I would do without her. She’s loving and caring….and has no damn clue on how much I hate the fourth of July.
***David smiles as he leans back on an old desk. Slowly the scene moves away from the garage until finally…it fades to black.***
***FLASH***
***The
scene reopens two days later on a pitch-black dark night somewhere in
Seattle. The only light seen is that of
streetlights and signal lights. A cool breeze sweeps through the town
blowing palm tree to the side a bit. It's a night almost out of a horror
film. You know the kind. Its cool, dark, hardly any lights, then,
bang! Some nut job in a hockey mask kills some cute little girl.
Only...that's in movies...this is real life.***
***FLASH***
***The
scene moves down an alley where we see smoke rising from some old pipes.
Only the beginning part of the alley is noticeable because of the smoke.
Suddenly a noise is heard echoing off the alley walls. It almost sounded
like a tin can or something metal being kicked or maybe even falling to the
ground.***
***FLASH***
***The
scene moves closer to the where the smoke begins. Slowly it moves closer
and closer until suddenly it starts to go through the smoke. The noise is
heard again now. This time closer than before as if it was moving towards
the end of the alley. A tin can flies out of nowhere. It flies out
of the smoke, the alley as well, and on to the street.***
***FLASH***
***The
scene moves out of the smoke and closer to the end of the alley when a person
walks out of the smoke. The smoke rises over his body then slowly
floating up into the sky. We can see the next PNW Champion, David Dunn. David is wearing a black over coat with
black boots, a black button shirt, and black slacks. David walks out of alley
we catch a glimpse of his face. His facile expression is
horrendous. David looks very angry and maybe a little disappointed to boot.
David slowly exits the alley and on to the street.***
***FLASH***
***The scene moves down a bit down the street to see David slowly making his way to where a red-light is located at. David shakes his head side to side as if something shocked him. Closer David gets to the red light.***
DUNN: Ungrateful...
***With each passing step David seems become more upset than we first saw. Suddenly David stops right in the middle of the street. His head looking down at the ground. His eyes, now closed for some reason or another.***
DUNN: …the people in this country are nothing more than retards. Remember way back when, back when times were simpler, when times are more wholesome. Back when the fourth of July meant something…but no. The fourth now a days is just an excuse for people to get drunk and people to make money off of fireworks.
***David lifts his head for a second...his face is all red...his eyes, bloodshot. The scene moves down his body to notice his hands are now rolled up into fist...they are both shaking lightly so it's sure to assume that there rolled up tight as if he was ready to hit someone or something.***
DUNN: That pisses me off. When people forget what something is all about. Of course, it’s running like this everywhere in America. Time and time again people forget what is a special day is really all about. Or a moment for that matter.
***His fist slowly unroll
themselves. David seemingly is trying
to relax.***
DUNN: Sunday is going to be a day that many people will not remember. For the simplest reason of all…they’re not going to want to remember it. Come Sunday a lot of people that said they were going to just walk into that PNW Arena, beat everyone in that tournament, and walk out the winner, well, those people are going to be sadly disappointed. All but one that is…myself. On the other hand there are quite a few people that are still crying that there going to be the next PNW champion. Out of them all, I’ve pretty much had it with two of them…Ryan Corey and Dane Black.
***With a few movements of his arms David slips off his coat and throws it over his shoulder. David still is walking to the red light down the street.***
DUNN: I’ll touch on Mr. Corey first seeing how he loves to bring up my smoking habits. First off Mr. Corey, I wouldn’t smoke a GPC if my life depended on it. God those are nasty cigarettes. That’s besides the point though. I saw your comments, wasn’t impressed by it much. I’ve all hear this before, but not your bring cigarette into your little stories to explain that your going to beat me and win the tournament. To be perfectly frank, your full of sh*t. Since day one that I knew I was going to face you, I’ve over looked you, I’ve insulted you, I’ve even forgot about you here and there. But never once have I ever really have no respected you. A man preaches on about how he’s going to win against unbelievable odds. You have to respect that. I have to respect that I guess. Sadly, respect isn’t going to help you one damn bit come Sunday. For when Sunday rolls around, you walk out for our match and step into that damn ring. You will learn I am the cancer you said I was. For my cancer is spreading, too you. Each day I see you Ryan, each day I see a little part of you die. Closer and closer we get to Sunday, the more and more you die. The doubt is setting in for you, your mind is slowly being destroyed. Oh that beautiful cancer.
***David reaches the red light. He stops directly under it. He looks up at the light change from red to green. A smile forms on David’s face.***
DUNN: Of course I could be wrong…maybe your just fine. Maybe, just maybe you’ll hand me my
ass. Nah! I honestly won’t be beat but the likes of you. Do you really think I’ll be beaten in the
very first round by a guy that goes around calling himself, the
Nightbringer. News flash my friend, the
sun setting is what causes nightfall, not you.
Oh, as far as you taking my soul or whatever…first off to take my soul
I’d first have to have one. And
secondly, when the f*ck did you ever get supernatural powers? It doesn’t even matter. Because to be honest…your going to need
supernatural power to beat my ass. Fly
into the ring, hit me with those x-ray eyes, and pin me. That’s the only way your going to beat me
Corey. As I said it before, this
Sunday, Boy Meets World, for the first and the last time. That’s all I have to say about that.
***David looks down and
continues to walk down the street.***
DUNN: As for you XTC, Dane Black, whatever you want to call yourself
these days. I have a question for
you. What pisses you off more, the fact
I never gave you a chance in the BJWC, or the fact I’m stopping your move up
yet again here in PNW? It must burn you
up inside that someone like me is better than someone like you. I can’t even imagine such things. It must eat you inside Dane. That someone like me, who’s cocky, an
ass*ole, and has an ego bigger than the Ozone, might just be better than a
little prick like you.
***David keeps moving down the
street, a light up ahead is slowly moving closer as he continues to walk.***
DUNN: All week I’ve heard you preach about how your going to win it all. How your unstoppable force. How I’m nothing to you. Believe what you will Dane…believe what you will. Know this though, if you have any doubts what so ever in your skill, talent, and wrestling abilities, they’ll all be answered this Sunday. For after Sunday you won’t have any doubts. It will all be perfectly clear. It will be you and I in the finals, you can place money on that one. And in the finals, where your doubts are going to be running ramped, I’m going to beat your ass so bad you’d think you were my stepson.
***The light keeps getting
brighter and brighter until David stops dead in his tracks.***
DUNN: Dane this all could have been avoid if you just listened to me
when I was trying to teach you the tricks of the trade. I tried to place you under my wing, teach
you how to become a winner. You just
wouldn’t listen. I really finished you
would have listened to me. But now I
guess it time to go to school one last time.
Only this time, it’s going to be the school of hard knocks. I’m going to beat you down, hurt you until
you can’t hardly walk, and right when you think you can’t go on, that’s when
the Reality Check hits, and it’s all over for your dreams, goals, and hopes. Sunday, the finals, you go one on one with
someone you can’t beat. Someone who’s
wrestled better wrestler than you every day of his life. Sunday, your going to know the true meaning
of the word, pain. Ya got that
trader. Ya got that? I sure as hell you hope you did.
***David looks up at a giant
arena, strangely, it’s the Key Arena in Seattle. David walks to walk towards it until suddenly he stops, moves his
head slightly looking back at the street.***
DUNN: Sunday….everyone in the PNW is in for a Reality Check they’ll
never forget. That is…and forever will
be…enough said.
***David turns his head back
and continues towards the arena. The
scene fades to black.***
