Sun, Jan 16, 2000 Neshaminy overpowers Pennsbury By RICK FORTENBAUGH of the TRENTONIAN Staff Writer LANGHORNE, Pa.-- Prior to yesterday's match against arch-rival Neshaminy, Pennsbury coach Joe Kiefer said his team's chances would largely depend on not getting pinned. Well, as it turned out, it was Kiefer's worst fears coming true as Neshaminy pinned in four weights to drub the Falcons, 36-14, and avenge last year's stunning upset loss to Pennsbury in style. "Of course I'm pleased because we beat Pennsbury,' said Neshaminy coach Vic Stanley. "We don't want to share the league title with anybody and to do that we have to beat everybody. "Any win over Pennsbury is big.' Neshaminy, which is now 4-0, got off to a strong start right away when Dan Stewart used a near-side cradle to drop Jeronimo Vasquez at the 3:43 mark at 103 pounds. This was exactly the kind of bonus points Pennsbury (7-2) could not afford to give up and the tone of the match in front of a subdued crowd had already been set. Pennsbury is best down below and through the middle, and the Falcons did hold their own in this area. Rick Tosti had probably the top win for the Falcons when he used two takedowns in the third period to defeat Truman transfer Jon Denny, 7-3, at 112 pounds. Pennsbury also got decisions from Joe Bowman (125), Keith Jones (135), Rich Schirner and Marc Michaud (145). Schirner's win was the biggest at the time because he bumped up to take on Pat Warusz and posted 2-1 victory. On the other hand, Pennsbury was no doubt hoping for more from two-time state qualifier Jones, who was forced to settle for an 8-2 victory over Bob Ireland. With Michaud's victory at 145, Pennsbury had captured five of the first eight bouts. The only problem was, Pennsbury's lead was only three points. "Our young guys in the middle did a great job,' said Stanley. "I thought our entire team came through. They came to wrestle Pennsbury.' Everybody knew what was coming after Michaud. Although Pennsbury's Bob Speer scored back points against Todd Mason at 152 in the third period to knot the match at 7-all, Mason recovered and was able to use a peterson roll late in the third period for a 12-6 win. From there, Neshaminy got pins from defending state champ Mike Pirozzola, Jack Fleming and heavyweight Joe Mitskas to win going away and show it's going to be a very tough team to stop in the Suburban One National League's Patriot Division.
