Commentary for 2/14/01
Hello everybody and Happy Valentine’s Day. It may have taken a while, but I finally got around to updating this thing. Okay, the truth is, I really had nothing to write about the last few weeks. No shows, nothing major to report. All in all, just a dull month. However, last Saturday night in Blaine, Kentucky, I worked my 2nd show for National Pro Wrestling and I did so in grand fashion. By securing the first victory of my wrestling career. It was a feeling like none other. However, it took us several hours before we finally decided what we were going to do. First, it was Bobby Storm and Brian Gilbert vs. B.J the DJ and “The Ruff Ryder” Chris Micheals. It ended up being J.T. Money and B.J. the DJ vs. Bobby Storm and Mike Sledge. How did this all come about???? Here is the story.

The day started off like the day for any other show. I wake up, eat breakfast, pack my gear and, at around 2:30, headed toward Johns Creek, Kentucky to pick up the crew that was going to work this show. However, I had gotten word earlier that day that Brian Gilbert had to work and wouldn’t be able to make it. This turned it into a handicap match. Me and Micheals vs. Bobby Storm. However, we were about to change the match yet again. We went pick up “The Ruff Ryder”, but for some reason, he was not home. So, we once again changed the match. It would be B.J. the DJ vs. “Sexy Boy” Bobby Storm.

About 2 hours later, we arrived at the Blaine Elementary School. The crew today was me, Bobby, A.J. (J.T. Money) and Rod (King Kobra). When we walked in, we found that the ring was already set up. While standing around talking, we discovered something major. This show as going to be a television taping. Both excited and nervous, we headed back to the dressing room to decide on a match. Just as Bobby had a beginning put together, in walks big Mike Sledge. Bobby had told me earlier that he might come and sure enough, there he was. We then settled it. It was going to be B.J. the DJ and J.T. Money with King Kobra vs. “Sexy Boy” Bobby Storm and Mike Sledge.

After talking out a match, we find the promoter and ask him if and when we were going to work tonight. He confirmed that we were and that we would be the 6th match of the evening. This gave us plenty of time to go over things. However, right before the show started, I was informed that I would once again have to referee this evening. After donning the shirt, I ended up reefing 2 matches. They then went to an intermission, giving me time to change back into my gear. It also gave me the chance to meet one of the greats in wrestling, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy. After introducing myself, I rushed back to discuss the match one last time. Finally, intermission was over and it was time for our match.

As A.J., Rod and I stood behind the curtain, the butterflies started to set in. Not only was this going to be the biggest crowd that we worked in front of, but the fact that we were going to be on television didn’t help ease our nervousness (well, at least mine). Finally, our music, “Ooops…I Did It Again” by Miss Brittany Spears, who by the way, is my future girlfriend (LOL!!!) hit and we made out intros, getting major heat from the crowd. After playing the crowd for a couple of minutes, Bobby and Mike made their entrance, getting a huge pop from the crowd. After they got a feel for the ring, I got in and the bell was rung.

It was going to be me and Bobby starting this off. After taking a press slam and a triple powerbomb, I was finally able to take control. After trading blows back and forth, Bobby laid into me with one of his patented “Bob Chops” sending me to the mat. As I got up, he backed me into the ropes and gave me 3 more for good measure. After this, big Mike Sledge was tagged in. He slammed me and put me in a surfboard. However, being the fearless competitor that I am, I refused to give up. Bobby was then tagged back in. He threw me into the ropes and was going to attempt another chop. However, seeing it coming of course, I dropped and rushed over to take in big J.T. Money.

As I caught my breath, Bobby and J.T. exchanged blows back and forth. It went on like this for the next few minutes, but J.T. finally gained the advantage and tagged me back in. The tide would soon turn, however, as Bobby reversed me as I tried to throw him in and gave me a picture perfect dropkick. Sledge was then tagged back in, and proceeded to nearly decapitate me with a huge closeline and elbow drop. I was able, however, to crawl to the corner and tag J.T., who got a Samoan Drop from Sledge for his troubles. Soon after, Sledge tagged Bobby back in and the tide turned once again. J.T. used an eye rake to cut him off and then tagged me back in. I then decided it was time to end this match, so I began to work on Bob’s knee. J.T. and I worked back and forth working on the knee, until I finally decided to lock in a move I’ve dubbed “Off The Air” (Lance Storm’s Canadian Maple Leaf (I know the name sucks, but I’ll hopefully change it soon)). As I kept the move locked on, I had the feeling in the pit of my gut that Bobby was going to give up. All of a sudden, the ref tells me to break the hold. Thinking I had won the match, I let go of the hold and raise my arms in victory. However, I soon realized that Bobby had some how made it to the ropes. Upset at this, I decided that now was the time to put an end to him. I soon found out, however, that was not going to be as easy as I thought.

I threw Storm into the ropes and attempted a closeline of my own, but he ducked and gave me a cross body block. 1…2….no. I kick out. He then picks me up and shoots me into the ropes. He tries a hiptoss, I block. I try one of my own. He blocks. He then tries a closeline, but, genius that I am, I duck and take him into “The Record Breaker” (Jeff Jarrett’s “Stroke”). That was it. I make the cover. 1..2..NO!!!! Amazingly, Bobby Storm has kicked out!!! I argue with the ref that it was a slow count, but to no avail. I then decided it’s time for Bobby to get a taste of his own medicine. I tie him up in the ropes and…WHAM!!! A chop!!! No effect. Another chop. Again, no effect. A third one. Uhh ohh!!!! I think I’m in trouble. He tells me to give him a few more, which I do, but to no avail. He then takes me into the corner and gives me 3 more of his patented chops. I stumble out, reaching for the tag, but get a face buster for my troubles. As I lay on the mat, I notice that Bobby has collapsed as well. We both are able to make a tag at the same time. Kobra pulls me out to give me a rest. I glance back in and notice Sledge, for some odd reason, tag Bobby back in. Kobra then distracts the ref as Sledge nails Bobby with a DDT. THE CROWD IS IN SHOCK!!!!! How could Sledge do this. He then rolls out of the ring, allowing J.T. to get the pin and our first ever professional wins.

And that my friends, is the story of my very first professional wrestling win. All in all, it was a great show. The fans went home happy, we went home happy (and sore, LOL!!!) and we felt that this was one of the best shows we had worked in a long while. And with that being said, it’s time once again for me to sign off. Hopefully, more events will happen this coming week and I will have something to report on. Also, if you’re in the area, be sure to check out the next NPW show, which will be in Kermit, West Virginia on March 3, 2001. Hope to see you there. Until next time, this is B.J. the DJ, the hippest man in the land signing off.
