Reds and O'Neill to meet Thursday The Yankees right fielder Paul O'Neill has agreed to talk with the Reds on a potential one year deal worth five million dollars. O'Neill, who hit .333 in the World Series, and .289 in the postseason, led the Yanks in those categories. The Reds are willing to propose the deal to O'Neill and his agent on Thursday in a meeting at New York. The veteran right fielder has not officially announced his retirement and may in fact be very interested in the deal which would send him to the Reds as a free agent. Paul's wife and three kids reside in Cinn. so this comes at a very high convience. O'Neill was the 94' batting champion and has five world series rings. Report: M's-Reds working 7-player deal? Trade rumors have already begun to fly. The Mariners and Reds are in the discussion stages for a seven-player trade, the Dayton Daily News reported Oct. 30. The trade reportedly would bring outfielder/infielder Dmitri Young, third baseman Aaron Boone and pitchers Dennys Reyes and Scott MacRae to Seattle for pitchers John Halama and Ryan Franklin and infielder David Bell. The next day, however, general manager Jim Bowden flatly denied the rumor to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "That's absolutely absurd," he said. "We've had no discussions with the Seattle Mariners since the season ended. The hilarious thing is David Bell's a free agent. What are we going to do? Trade for him a day before he declares? We wouldn't be getting very much in that trade, and we'd be giving up some very good players."
