O'Neill back in town

Paul O'Neill>
Believe it or not Paul O'Neill, who announced his retirement last year may be coming back after all. He has begun to work out with the Yankees under a tentative agreement with Manager Joe Torre. O'Neill called Torre and asked if he could make a possible comeback. Due to the lack of production by Yankee Rightfielders Shane Spencer and John Vander Wal. Torre has decided to give this a shot. The Yankees may have their warrior back.

NEWS AND NOTES
  • LHP Andy Pettitte, who has missed the past seven weeks with tendinitis in his left elbow, had his rehab start at Double-A Norwich pushed back to June 7 instead of June 6 because of bad weather. If all goes well, he could be back with the Yankees next week.
  • With the 71st pick in the June 4 draft, the Yankees selected RHP Brandon Weeden from Edmond Santa Fe HS in Edmond, Okla.
  • 1B Jason Giambi on June 4 was named AL Player of the Month for May after hitting a league-best 10 home runs. In 28 games, Giambi hit .340 (36-for-106) with 24 RBI, 26 runs, 19 walks, a .717 slugging pct. "It's pretty cool to win an award like that, being in a new place," Giambi told the New York Post. "It's like winning an MVP for a month."
  • RHP Orlando Hernandez (strained upper back) threw about 70 pitches off the mound in Tampa, Fla., on June 4, according to the New York Post.
