Misc. News

According to WWF.com, Raven, Stevie Richards, and Mike Sanders have been in the WWFE offices in an attempt to gain television announcing positions. Currently, the WWF remains on the lookout for permanent color commentators for their television broadcasts. In related news, the WWF seems happy with Al Snow's performance as an announcer on Heat and will likely see that as his permanent position.

The Rock defnitley brought a boost to the WWF's ratings since his return to television after a brief stint in Hollywood. The RAW before his return only brought in a rating in the lower 5's while his segment on RAW the following week scored a monster 9.0 rating. As expected, the spike was brief but with HHH, Trish, Benoit, and others awaiting their returns to WWF television, the immediate future looks bright for the company in respect to television ratings.

Previously it was reported that the name for the new WWF Saturday night program would be called WWF Attitude, however today on Livewire today it was stated that the name would indeed be WWF Excess.

The show will debut on TNN next Saturday night and will be hosted by Johathan Coachman and Trish Stratus. The first guest on the magazine formatted show will be HHH where he is expected to comment on his rehabilitation and when we can expect to see him return to WWF action.

Summary of Ross Report

Kane is currently working with an injured back. He had an MRI on Tuesday and the results were suppose to be in today.

Trish Stratus begun rehab for her ankle. Trish is on crutches right now, but should be okay in a few weeks.

Jerry Lynn will have surgery on August 23 to repair a torn patella tendon. The approximate time for the recovery is about three months.

Rikishi will still be out of action for another two months or so.

Mike Sanders, Raven and Steven Richards were all in Stamford CT. this past week. They were auditioning for color analyst TV roles. Jim Ross says that he hasn't seen the tapes for the audition yet, but he heard that the three wrestlers showed they had a lot of potential.

Some of the WWF's road agents, like, Arn Anderson, Fit Finlay and Ricky Santana have been getting into the ring before events to work/train with many talents.

More Misc. News

Throughout the past two weeks, updates on Ken Shamrock's WWF return were being released. That doesn't need to be looked on again, but on a new note, there is talk that if he is to return to the WWF, his "sister" figure, Ryan Shamrock, will return as well. Since her departure from the WWF, Alicia Webb has found a career as a stripper. Only time will tell what happens, so keep your eye out.

The following is from Scott Steiner's official website BootyDaddy.com: I've been laying low, watching everything unfold this summer. I spent some quality time off getting re-energized and I'm feeling mean again. I'm starting to miss the action and Lord knows it's missing me. It's near time for me to show everyone who the Genetic Freak is again and remind them all who has the most amazing body in professional wrestling. My freaks know, but there's a lot of trailer park trash out there who don't have a clue, and I think it's high time to educate.Keep your eyes open...the Big Bad Booty Daddy is on his way back...it may not be this week or this month, but it is coming soon.STEINER

It is a good possibility that Ric Flair will appear on WWF Television in the future, but it may hindered by the fact that some of the "higher ups" in the WWF dislike Flair and would push against buying his contract out from AOL.

Many have felt that Flair would have been a great assest to the WWF in helping get WCW over in the early going.

Flair has stated that he would return to the WWF if the situation is right for both him and the WWF. Flair continues to train at his home in North Carolina and there has been talks of him developing his own federation.

Sting is still under AOL Time Warner contract and at this time has no interest in wrestling full time again. The WWF considers him retired and won't be pursuing him. Steve Borden (Sting) has become less interested in wrestling ever since his vow to become a born again Christian.

Going all the way back to the final days of WCW, Sting was absent most of the time disagreeing with several of the "racy" storylines that were taking place in wrestling.

Sting had also been hindered with several injuries in his last few years with WCW. Jim Ross did mention that he has spoken with Sting in his Ross Report, but gave no other inclinations that he would be returning anytime in the near future.

ECW Bankruptcy Info

the settlement of the ECW bankruptcy will be on hold until October 12, 2001 – at which a decision will be made on Annodeus INC. attempts to close the company and gain rights to its assets and property.

Paul Heyman recently provided some information over the past week to answer questions from both his creditors and partners in regard to the bankruptcy of the company.

The main interaction regarded Annodeus INC., which is claiming secured creditorship and trying to foreclose a position that Barbara Balaber-Struass, Heyman and WWFE all contested. The position stated by both Heyman and WWFE is that Annodeus INC. was not a secured creditor of ECW, but a partial owner instead – and the money they sent wasn’t loans as much as knowing ECW was in terrible financial condition, they were funding the company because their video game license with the company would be worth nothing if the company were to go out of business.

At the time Annodeus loaned the money in 1999, at about the time ECW was on TNN. At the time, it seemed like a potential turnaround for the company’s popularity, even if nothing of the sort actually materialized, the company was over three million dollars in dept and on the verge of folding. The loans in question, give by a company that had just purchased 15 percent of company stock for $1.5 million, would be considered funding to keep the company alive at various points when they needed payback of previous depts to keep them from going under or to make payroll. When ECW released “Hardcore Revolution,” the game grossed for Acclaim approximately $17 million – which explains why ECW wanted to keep the company alive. In return, ECW should’ve received $425,000 in return from those sales, which were never paid, likely because they held it based on the money owed back from those loans or money advanced, which explains why Heyman’s estimation of the money owed to Annodeus was one million instead of 1.525 million, as the company originally claimed. Because Annodeus charged a low interest rate for a high creditor due to the company being so deeply in trouble and no provision for short-term payments, the take was that the company was a business partner and not a disinterested creditor.

As mentioned the previous week, the WWF was taking the legal tact that the trademarks and rights to the name – ECW – had been abandoned by HHG before filing for bankruptcy. This was based on the fact that they promoted no shows after January. That was the legal branch they were holding onto for using the ECW name and trademark on telvision before making any deal for the rights. Heyman, at a meeting on August 2, concurred with the WWF’s contention that he had abandoned the marks before filing the bankruptcy. On a note of interest, WWFE and Annodeus don’t have a good business relationship since WWFE has a powerful lawsuit in Connecticut State court against Acclaim, the parents company of Annodeus - for $460,000.

On April 16, 2001 – long before WWF revived the name on July 8, the WWF made its first offer to purchase intellectual property as well as the companies business records, assets, etc. Since the attempt to purchase included trademarks, they seemed to be contradicting their current position. WWFE has explained this situation by saying that they made the initial offer for those things they believed abandoned simply to avoid possible litigation and as part of doing pratical business. The WWF was claims its offer was $737,500 – although it would actually only pay $150,00 for them, with the remainder being composed of giving up $587,500 to HHG for loans. The WWF then made a second offer of $150,000 on June 26 – and making a third offer of $250,000. Annodeus claimed that the property was worth more than what the WWF had offered and that they could seek better revenue someplace else. It has been rumored that as many as six other companies may be interested in purchasing videotapes and believe WWF’s use of ECW has not damaged the worth of those assets, but increased their value instead

Pioneer, which owns rights to ECW videotapes was said to also be at the hearing. Its position seems to be they want to continue having the rights to ECW for the home video and DVD market, having signed a contract giving them rights through 2004. Pioneer paid ECW $150,000 up front and has sent two quarterly payments – totaling $128,000.
