Smoke would begin to show WAW's fans his evil side, using low bridge tactics to win matches and was beginning to become very hated amongst the fans of WAW. Smoke would remain United States Champion until the week before Legacy when Jersey and DJ Justice would screw him out of the title. Smoke would unsuccessfully try to win the title back at Legacy. Following Legacy, Smoke would wage on a war to win the World Title from Iceman. Smoke would get his shot at Annihilation, but would fall just short of becoming champion. Two weeks later, Smoke would be injured and go out of action. He would return at Apocalypse 2002 attacking Gravedigger and Iceman. He would quickly form an alliance with Freak Show and the duo would be called Chaos Effect. No one really knows where all this aggression from Smoke is coming from anymore, but apparently its producing the right results for him.
