The Hardy Boyz and Lita Pay a Visit to New York's Hippest Boutique
The Hardy Boyz and Lita are known for--among other things--their sense of style. So the trio wasn't about to pass up a chance to sample the fashion selection in New York's world-famous East Village when the Federation recently passed through the Big Apple. On the same day as a SmackDown! taping, the threesome took a few hours out of their hectic schedule to visit Trash & Vaudeville on St. Mark's Place--and add to their eclectic collections.
Hours before the ring wars would begin under the hot lights of Madison Square Garden, the Hardyz and Lita made the time to stop by the ultra-trendy clothing shop and check out the hype first-hand. Lita had been there before, and was excited abot visiting the boutique again. For the brothers Hardy, it was a completely new experience, and one they aren't likely to forget.
A fixture of New York's bohemian fashion scene for more than a quarter-century, Trash & Vaudeville is a favorite of countless celebrities in the entertainment world, including rapper Ice-T, comedienne Sanra Bernhardt, and rockers Joan Jett, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper and Steven Tyler. T&V's resident style expert Jimmy "The Specialist" Webb was more than happy to assist Matt, Jeff and Lita in selecting the most killer outfits possible.
They have it going' on, and I look at people's clothes all day," Jimmy said "They have a natural thing, the passion in the soul. They're the real thing."
The three high-flying Federation Superstars were pleasantly surprised with the shop's funky and freaky clothes and accessories. Always on the lookout for new duds, they usually make it a point to pick out the most eccentric and off-the-wall boutiques they can find in the area they are appearing. With their unique fashion sensibilities, Trash & Vaudeville is a veritable goldmine, and one they will be sure to visit during future NYC visits.
"This is te perfect store. Right up our alley," said Jeff as he perused the selection of punk rock T-shirts.
The hours flew by as the Hardyz and Lita tried on countless eye-popping ensembles. Matt took a particular liking to a pair of "X-ray" boots with "foot-bones" emblazoned on the outside. Jeff emerged from the dressing room sporting a black vinyl costume worthy of Pinhead from the Hellraiser movies. Lita caught everyone's attntion in a gold skirt and top that left little to the imagination.
From furry pink sneakers to blue animal-print pants to rhino-horned boots to black rubber pullovers, the trio triedon anything they cold get their hands on. With The Specialist's approval, of course.
"We're definitely alternative," said Matt in reference to their style. "Rock 'n' roll-ish to a degree. I would define my style as dark and brooding. I like to wear black. Jeff's a lot more laid-back. Lita' hot. She can get away with wearing a lot of--or very little--clothing."
The Hardy Boyz and Lita are known for sporting some of the most outlandish styles ever seen on a Fedration Superstar, and many among their legions of fans have chosen to emulate them in their own personal mode of dress (much to their parents' delight, we're sure). But being fashion gurus is no easy task--in fact, it's an ongoing struggle.
"Out in the country where I live, there's not too many stores where I like to shop," pointed out Lita. "So that leads me to make a lot of my own clothes, or wait until we have opportunities like this."
Indeed, the opportunity wasn't wasted, and the Hardy Boyz and Lita left Trah & Vaudeville with many shopping bags filled with goodies, ready for anything SmackDown! might through their way. Rummaging through the racks at the East Village's fashion epicenter was an experience they will be looking to repeat as soon as possible.
Back home in small-town North Carolina, the flashy Superstars may stick out like three sore thumbs, but amid the unorthodox environs of St. Mark's Place, they fit right in.
