Virtual Hogwarts > The Dueling Chamber > Is this the real life...Is this just fantasy....

Dusky walked into the duelling chamber, gripping her fingers nervously. It was bad enough that a stranger to duelling such as she should be here to begin with...but yet again, she would be duelling with Sariss Ravon! How stupid could she possibly be! If she were a boy, a big ugly adams apple would be bopping up and down nervously right there. "S...S...S...Sariss!" She called. "Sariss Ravon! I am here to challenge you a duel!" As the older student turned towards her, she squeaked nervously and turned around, hiding her face in her sleeves. Maybe...her nose wiggled a little. Licorice! She'd left some there! She dug deep down into her sleeve and felt for the pocket her mother had sewn in. Yes! Licorice! She chewed on it fiercely, hoping to gain some emotional strength from the sugar...but as she chewed...a strange feeling came over her, and the little badger turned around slowly, her face raising to the light of the stained glass windows. "Is this the real life - Is this just fantasy..." She covered her mouth. What was that? The strangest things seemed to happen when she duelled with Sariss. She took a step forward. "Caught in the Chamber, No escape...from Sarissy..." She stared at the Slytherin, her eyes opening wider, her fingers still clenching her wand. "Open your eyes Look up to the skies and see..... I'm just a Hufflepuff, I need no sympathy Because I'm easy block, flipendo Some points high, some points low... Anyway the spells go, doesn't really matter to me.... To me...." "Sariss...just duelled a girl, Held my wand up, oh so high, Cast flipendo till she cried... Sariss...the duel had just begun, But it finished before my final points were done... Sariss....ooooooo I want to duel you Might not be back again this time tomorrow... So now, oh please now I want to duel you...." Dusky coughed, smacking her chest a few times. Well...that was odd...but it said what had to be said. So...who's complaining?

Sariss plopped down on the bench, knowing that it would probably take a while for Dusky to come join her in the chamber and duel with her. She was glad that the little Hufflepuff had agreed to another duel, as the last one had been extremely funny. Opponents were still hard to come by for Sariss, even though she was by far not the most dangerous and strongest dueller in the school. She watched Thorny scuttle about under the bench, probably hunting some dust bunnies. Where was Dusky? This wasn’t funny. Sariss yawned and looked at her watch, checking the time. She rummaged around in her pockets for something to nibble on while she was waiting. What she found was the Karaoke Liquorice that someone had given her as a present not a long time ago. Polly or Jazz probably. A Hufflepuff, that much was clear. She chewed happily on it, growing accustomed to the quite overwhelming taste of liquorice that she was not used to yet. Her jaw dropped however when Dusky entered the Duelling Chamber, first calling her name at the top of her little lungs, then munching some liquorice and then… then the little Hufflepuff began to sing. Sariss blanched slightly, her mind immediately forming the connecting between the liquorice and the singing. Karaoke liquorice, Sariss thought and scrambled to her feet in panic, covering her mouth with her hands. But it was already too late. She had already blurted out the first few lines. How good that she was capable of keeping her voice from going off key all too badly. Thorny poked his little nose out from under the bench and stared at his mistress as she was singing. “Hufflepuff seeker, come join me here, just a platform creeper, you make me cheer. A young dueller screaming my name so loud, You want a duel? I’ll help you out. It’s not much you’re asking, I have to say, Gotta find us a platform, move out of our way! We want to duel, we want to duel, we want to duel, and we want it now We want to duel, we want to duel, we want to duel, and we want it now Listen little Dusky, come follow me I gotta claim that runway… oh no it’s claimed already Let’s grab one that we know is ours People do you hear me? We’re testing our powers. It’s not much we’re asking, if you want to know, All we want is a duel, we want it so. We want to duel, we want to duel, we want to duel, and we want it now We want to duel, we want to duel, we want to duel, and we want it now I’m a girl with a one track mind, Duelling is a great pastime In my opinion, in my eyes, Quidditch might be a compromise So I’m doing it all, yes, I’m doing it all, And I’m pursuing it all, and I’m pursuing it all. Is it too much to ask for? What do you think? Let’s climb onto the platform, in perfect sync. We want to duel, we want to duel, we want to duel, and we want it now We want to duel, we want to duel, we want to duel, and we want it now” Oh my… That sounded very demanding and all… Sariss hoped that the officiators didn’t think her rude because of it. Bloody karaoke liquorice. How could she have forgotten that you could barely eat anything these days without suffering the one or the other magical side-effect? Sariss’s cheeks were pink as she stood on the platform, opposite of Dusky, and waited for an officiator, hoping (probably in vain) that both duellers’ songly outbursts had gone unnoticed. Just to be on the safe side, she kept her eyes directed at the ground, her be-satin-slippered toes all of a sudden holding an immense amount of interest to the Slytherin.

Professor Trimble took a break from his seemingly endless research of dueling spells to come to the chamber and officiate for a while. He new the students were frantically trying to fit in a lifetime of dueling in three days. With a curt nod at the pair on the nearest platform, he started them off. "Good luck, you two. Begin!" Wait...had they been singing?
Posted by: Sariss Jun 4 2004, 11:08 PM
A blushing Sariss bowed to Professor Trimble, restraining herself from saying 'Thank you' since that would probably result in another songly outburst. However, she would like Dusky to cast the first spell in this duel so it wouldn't be over so quickly. The two of them were duelling together rarely enough. There was no need to rush it by casting gigantic spells and all that jazz. Much less did Sariss like to take the opportunity of casting the first spell when it was clear that, although Dusky was a brilliant ickle one, they were not evenly matched. That would only result in the duel being even shorter... And since Sariss really didn't mind fun little practice duels with her huffly friends (no, she positively loved duelling with them since they had not had one single class together this term--apart from a couple of electives that Sariss had retaken during first term maybe), she didn't rush casting her spells. Now how to make a bit of small talk and tell Dusky that she could start the duel in earnest? "Dusky..." Sariss's hands flew to her mouth. Had that been sung? Oh geez... Really... Couldn't a girl speak one sentence without being forced to turn it into an entire musical? Apparently not. "Dusky you’re a girl that I quite like Duellin’ in the chamber gonna be a big dueller some day. You got a wand in yo’ hand You big talent Hurtling your spells all over the planet Chantin’ You take you take first blood You take you take first blood Dusky you’re a huffly huffie Bouncin’ on the runway gonna take on Sariss today. You got a spell on your mind One of a kind But please do not cast the full body bind. Chantin’ You take you take first blood You take you take first blood Dusky you’re a little dueller Castin’ all those spells gonna make you great some day You got the attitude You are not rude On top of that you’re also very good. You take you take first blood You take you take first blood."

Dusky shuffled her feet awkwardly. There was something...well...strange about this duel. But she couldn't figure out exactly what it was. Oh! Sariss was going to let her have first blood. That's so sweet! She opened her mouth to thank her, to say that she'd do her best in the duel...that she was sure first blood wouldn't make much difference...but what came out? A load of stuck-up snobbish balderdash! "Ooh, let's go... Dusky walks warily through the hall With her robe pulled oh so tight... Ain't no sound but the sound of the call That echoes through the night Are you ready, hey, are you ready for this Are you hangin' on the edge of your seat Out of the chamber, the spells all rip To the sound of the beat, yeah Another point bites the dust Another point bites the dust And another spell cast and another spell cast Another point bites the dust, eh Hey...I'm gonna duel you too Another point bites the dust How do you think I'm going to get along When I fight the great Sariss She takes me for every point that I have Though my spells never miss She is tough...She is bonafide She can easily stand the heat All through the chamber, the spells all rip To the sound of the beat Look out Another point bites the dust Another point bites the dust And another spell cast and another spell cast Another one bites the dust But hey, I'm gonna duel you too Another one bites the dust Hey Oh take it Bites the dust - bites the dust Hey Hey Another point bites the dust Another point bites the dust, ow Another point bites the dust, hey hey Another point bites the dust, heeey Oooh - show down There are plenty of ways that you can hurt Sariss And bring her to the ground You can knockback You can slug hex You can cast them all and leave her when she's down, yeah But she's ready, yes she's ready for me She's standing on her own two feet Her spells are all tough, mine are not Though they go to the sound of the beat Oh yeah Another point bites the dust Another point bites the dust And another point gone and another point gone Another point bites the dust Even though I got first blood Another point bites the dust Shoot out! Flipendo!" Dusky stood in shock. That song was a bit nastier than she'd expected...but...well. She had guts, right? But Sariss...Sariss was just wow. She stood in silent admiration of her opponent, watching the spell head directly for her. 78 - 10 (LV1 Knockback Jinx) = 68

Sariss's jaw was virtually hitting the floor as ickle Dusky went into some sort of frenzied war song. O...kay... Just keep cool... Not like there would come anything towards you that you'd be unable to handle... except for this constant singing which Sariss was part of also. Life as a musical... Oh geez... Sariss rolled her eyes and prepared herself to block whatever would be heading her way. "While the chamber is open and we fight our duels, While our jinxes are cast and fly high through the air While there’s water and fire and lightning spells Till the chamber is closed for holidays. Oh yes we’ll keep on duellin’ Obsidio! Oh we’ll keep on duellin’ yeah Just casting our spells. While we cast difficult hexes, a jinx or a charm While we’re duelling each other I’ll cause you no harm We hurtle charms and spells like Flipendo, Obsidio, Expelliarmus Through the chamber, and on and on Oh yes, we’ll keep on duellin’ We’ll cast our jinxes Oh oh we’ll keep on duellin’ Forever, methinks, Till the end of time Through the chamber, the air between us, I’ll send a spell now… oh Flipendo! You can cast any spell you want to cast, Just watch, observe, cast charms, block spells and you will always have a blast Be free with your tempo, be free, be free Hold onto your wand now – and block and block, this evil jinx! Oooh, ooh – If you would like to cast your spell now, well, here is your chance. If there’s a point, if there’s a reason to duel or not It there’s a spell that we don’t know and are yet to be taught Cast your spell – cast your spell now – release the power! Oh we’ll keep on duellin’ Watch where you’re aimin’ Yeah, we’ll keep on duellin’ yeah And forever we will – we will We’ll just keep on duelling We’ll just keep on duelling Forever, I’d say And ever, hey hey And ever, always." Once more, Sariss slapped her hands over her mouth. Oh my... How long would this be going on? This was just... Meeples... Awful! What if it would never stop? 200 - 5 (LV3 Blocking Charm) - 5 (LV2 Knockback Jinx) = 190

Dusky stood soberly, blocking Sariss's spell, fighting, but giving into an urge to stand feet apart, shoulders hunched, a blue spotlight...actually a ray of light through a stained glass window falling upon her face. "Obsidio.... Obsidio... I'd stand alone, and fight the fight Another duel through Hogwarts nights... And ev'rything I need to know... I guess it is 'Obsidio... I use all of the old time spells Knockbacks, Blocks, no special sells They've done me well - they've done me proud They have all worked upon a crowd.... Flipendo... So don't become some background scare A backdrop for some greener tier They just don't serve, and just don't sound Like my favourite spells, always around You had your time, still have the power You've yet to have your finest hour Flipendo... All we hear is Flipendo-oh Expelliarmus... Obsidio... All we hear is Flipendo-oh Expelliarmus... Flipen...something new? Flipendo...I sure still love you... Dusky coughed and tickled her neck...somewhere out of that spell, a knockback jinx seemed to be hurtling to Sariss....had she even intended that? 68 - 5 (LV2 Blocking Charm) - 10 (LV1 Knockback Jinx) = 53

If not for her singing skills (that weren't half as bad as she thought they were), Sariss along with Dusky would be famous for managing to include incantations in songs without messing up the rhyming pattern. And without Sariss doing anything to encourage the karaoke liquorice's effects on her, she was forced to sing once more. And it was a silly song. "As the jinx is hurtling towards me And I don’t want it to come near One thousand and one knockback jinx sparkle Dancing towards me so quickly – oh dear Are you trying to knock me backwards? You’re missing that one final flick You simply need some more good practice To be honest, all you need is this trick I’m going to show you I’m going to show you Look at the wrist flick – wrist flick I’ll show you the trick – ooh oh I’ll show you the trick – Obsidio! Oh dear! One point short of unblockable I'm gonna be careful A hit's not acceptable And boy, I think it would be disgraceful! I’m going to cast a spell now I’ll show you how to cast This strong spell needs some practice That’s what it looks like when I’m fast Look here! I’m going to show you I’m going to show you Look at the wrist-flick – wrist flick I’ll show you the trick – uh huh I’ll show you the trick – Flipendo-ho! Oh dear.. Now this spell I’ve known since my first year You’ll be good at it soon too Hope you don’t mind me giving advice But Dusky, how about you? Teach me that slug hex thing Teach me that slug hex thing Show me how to cast it Show me how to cast it oh yes Show me how to cast it Can hardly wait! Can hardly wait for that! And then I’ll cast it." Geez! Sariss really sounded like a smart-arse know-it-all teacher wanna-be! Nothing that could be done against it now though... Pity... Hopefully, Dusky wouldn't be offended... 190 – 5 (LV3 Blocking Charm) – 40 (LV2 Knockback Jinx) = 135

Dusky chewed furiously on the licorice, letting the inky blackness lubricate her throat...slip through her voice box...slipperise her tonsils. She opened her mouth to tell Sariss exactly what she thought of her attitude...but what came out was a desire to reaffirm that she WAS a dueller. That she deserved to be standing on the platform. Adventure dueller on a low platform Just a hallway creeper light on her feet A young fighter screaming with no time for doubt With the pain and anger can't see a way out It ain't much I'm asking I heard her say Gotta find me a future move out of my way I wanna duel...I wanna duel...I wanna duel...and I want it now I wanna duel....I wanna duel....I wanna duel....and I want it now Listen all you students come gather round I gotta get me a game plan gotta shake you to the ground I gotta win what I know is mine People do you hear me just give me the sign It ain't much I'm asking for if you want the truth Here's to the future for the dreams youth I wanna duel...(and to win) I wanna duel, I wanna duel...and I want it now I wanna duel...I wanna duel...I wanna duel...and I want it now I'm a girl with a one track mind So much to do in a few hours' time (people do you hear me) Not a girl to compromise, and where's and why's and living lies So I'm blocking you now (yes Obsidio now) And I'm blocking you now (Yes OBSIDIO NOW!) Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah I wanna du-el...duuuu-el... It ain't much I'm asking if you want the truth Here's to a win for me Hear the cry of youth (hear the cry hear the cry of youth) I wanna duel...I wanna duel...I wanna duel...and I wannit now I wanna duel...(yeah yeah yeah) I wanna duel...I wanna duel...and I wannit now I want it NOW Flipendo...Flipendo.... Dusky took a deep breath. That had taken a lot out of her. She didn't have much strength. She sounded so DESPERATE. This licorice was horrid. It really brought out the heart of the music. The candy was thick in her throat. Corrupting. Conniving. She could sense the duel would be over soon. But not as confidently as the song had expressed her... 53 - 40 (LV2 Blocking Charm) - 10 (LV1 Knockback Jinx) = 3

Sariss had this really odd feeling that this duel was nearing its end and that they'd be in for only a few more songs now, hopefully. She felt so weird. This singing made her express herself in a way that she wasn't accustomed to. Quiet, the-less-I-speak-the-more-I-know Sariss hadn't talked so much during the entire previous week... and here she was... singing... "Another spell has been cast Little Dusky’s surely putting up a good fight. And it’s coming my way Flying fast and sparkling, oh just look at its brightness. I say Obsidio! Trimble is strict; wouldn’t want to be hit! Spells are such a sight; but I’m a friend you can trust Fair is just fair, When you’re in need of spells a fair duel can help you there Fair is just fair When exams are done, don’t know what to do Just wave your wand and - fair is just fair – duel with me! What a beautiful day The jinxes courtesy of Dusky haven’t hit me Only a block charm away Although you gave your best, you will need to practise more. As a matter of fact, You are improving loads, just right as we duel Ain’t it easy now, cos you fight duels that you know Fair will be fair Soon the duel will be finished, all jinxes cast Hold out your wand cos – fair is just fair – you’ll be disarmed. Expelliarmus! Let go cos you’ll be disarmed. Fair is just fair. When you need your wand back, I’ll give it back and shake your hand Fair is just fair When the chamber’s closed and the duel’s fought Let us shake hands, cos fair is just fair, here is your wand. Fair is just fair When you need your wand back, I’ll give it back and shake your hand Fair is just fair When the chamber’s closed and the duel’s fought Let us shake hands, and fair is just fair, I’ll have your wand." Ugh... Sariss vowed that she'd stay away from liquorice in the future. At least the wizarding one. You really shouldn't eat anything at all at Hogwarts - at least nothing that didn't come directly from the kitchens, spell-and-curse-checked. Constant vigilance. Moody surely had a point. 135 - 5 (LV3 Blocking Charm) - 25 (LV3 Disarming Spell) = 105

Dusky watched, her eyelids drooped, as her wand wrenched itself from her fingers. Her shoulders slumped, she opened her mouth to say "Good fight Sariss, well done, you deserved to win" - but instead... Too late, my duel's done... Sends shivers down my spine - Fingers aching hard this time, Goodbye Sariss - I've got to go - Gotta leave you here behind, and face the truth - Sariss oooooo (any way the duel goes) I din't wanna lose I sometimes wish I never duelled at all... I see a little silhouetto of a dueller Scarmouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango Rictusempra, Vellicare - very very frightening to me - Merlin, Merlin Merlin, Merlin Merlin, Helga - Salazar - But I'm just a poor girl, nobody loves me - She's just a poor girl from a squib family - Spare her his life from this monstrosity - Easy duel, easy loss - will you not let me win It is too late! We will not let you win It is too late! We will not let you win - let me win It is too late! We will not let you win - let me win Will not let you win - let me win Will not let you win - let me win No, no, no, no, no, no, no Oh Sarissy, Sarissy, Sarissy, let me win - Sweet Slytherin has a devil put aside for me....for me.....for me! So you think you can knockback and spit in my eye... So you think you can steal my wand and leave my heart died... Oh...Sarssy, can't do this to me Sarssy... Just gotta get out, just gotta get right out of here... Dusky looked around nervously. Did she have any control over what came out of her mouth? She sounded all bitter. Really, she wasn't. Honestly, she wasn't. Nothing really matters, Anyone can see, Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me, Any way the duel goes.... 3 - 3 (Wand gone - sniffle) = 0

Awww... Sariss quickly went to give Dusky the wand back and give her a hug. The little Hufflepuff... well... not so little anymore actually... Ickle Dusky was growing up! The not-so-little-anymore Hufflepuff always looked so lost at the end of a duel with Sariss. The Slytherin wanted to say something along the lines of 'Don't be sad. You did really well. I hope we can duel with each other again next year when the chamber reopens' but instead of this babbling all that came out of her mouth was... another song! Bloody hell! Would this never stop? "Empty chamber – there are no duels on Abandoned platforms – this is a sad sad song Gone, so gone, does anybody know when we will duel once more Another duel fought, another win for me So rarely losing, Dusky, how can that be? It’s just luck, soon everybody’ll want to duel and beat me The Chamber is closed The Chamber is closed Inside my heart is aching My wand hand may be shaking But my skill will remain. Whatever happens to our good old rules Another change comes, Trimble oh please take care Of it all. Does anybody know what it all will be like? Guess I’ll be learning, I must be patient now I’ll soon be leaning, the new year will us show. Outside the Chamber we’ll be It isn’t even closed yet but I'm aching to duel The Chamber is closed The Chamber is closed Inside my heart is aching My wand hand may be shaking But my skill will remain. My heart’s fluttering like the wings of butterflies The mere thought of new rules is exciting me so much Spells will fly, my friends The Chamber is closed The Chamber is closed I’m going through withdrawal I’ll never give it up Open the chamber! I will be back, cut me no slack I have to find a way to cope with it The chamber Re-opens soon." As the two duellers left the Duelling Chamber, the last bit of the karaoke liquorice's effects died down, leaving Sariss all but whispering, "The Chamber is closed…"
