that the committee holds all rights to retract their permission at any time
should you abuse your powers/race in any way or go overboard with the abilities
that the power/race provides you with.
The Committee for Character Excellence
is responsible for a variety of additional character supplements for all
members of Virtual Hogwarts. This includes and is not limited to all additional
magical powers and race membership.
Although a variety of races and extra
magical abilities have been mentioned in Canon (the Harry Potter books), this
will not be the case at Virtual Hogwarts for various reasons, but mainly
because we feel that having the ability to perform magic is indeed a wondrous
feat, and able to mark a person as unique, without the aid of extra talents.
You all have the potential to develop a
highly unique character without the aid of additional power or different race
membership.
Before turning to other avenues to
differentiate your character from the norm, try to explore all possible aspects
of development for your character. Many characters on this site found more
subtle ways to set themselves apart from the other students without having more
than your plain ordinary magical ability at their disposal.
If you are to submit an application to
the Committee, be prepared for rejection as approval is quite rare. And if you
are successful, be prepared to work hard for your power.
Concerning being related to canon
characters
The committee strongly discourages being
all too closely related to a canon character because JK Rowling can wipe out
your family history with a single sentence.
For example:
Being the cousin of a canon character
would require for that character to either have siblings or be married to
someone who has siblings. JK can state that the character in question is
neither married nor has siblings. Where does that leave you? Exactly.
Out-of-canon.
We would like to avoid problems like
this as much as possible.
If we didn’t want VH to adhere to JK’s
laws, we might as well have kept Sirius Black as our Defence Against the Dark
Arts teacher when JK killed him in Harry Potter and the Order of the
We require everybody who
claims to be related to a canon character in any way to send in a description
of how exactly they claim to be related to said canon character. Your request
may be granted. However, we would like you to know that we may retract this
permission if we learn that JK Rowling stated something that is not in
accordance with your claims.
On the subject of godchildren: Be
realistic, for god’s sakes!
Playing a canon character on VH is a
privilege and shouldn’t be turned into a popularity contest.
RACES
Available races:
Part-giants
Part-Veelas
Werewolves
NOT AVAILABLE
Vampires
Mermaids
Elves
Centaurs
Fire elementals, water elementals, etc.
Any combinations of the afore-mentioned
and other ludicrous things.
To sum it up: If we didn’t see them
attend a wizarding school in the books, they will not attend VH. Comprende?
SPECIAL ABILITIES
• Animagus
• Legilimency
• Metamorphmagus
• Occlumency
• Parselmouth
• Seer
ANIMAGUS
An Animagus is a wizard or witch who can
transform themselves into a pre-defined and consistent animal at will. Their
animal form is usually characterised by some sort of distinguishing mark which
people can identify them from (e.g. the spectacle marks around McGonagall’s
eyes as a cat).
The Animagus ability at Virtual Hogwarts
is a learnt talent. One cannot be born with it, nor can one learn it in one
lesson or learn it illegally. Any one who is a third year and above may apply
for this talent providing that they have excelled in Transfiguration for the
last two years leading up to their application.
Otherwise, if you have not achieved the
desired marks to meet the criterion for Animagity, you must achieve an
Outstanding for your end of year grade and obtain a recommendation from your
Transfiguration teacher before reapplying.
If your application is successful, you
will be required to undertake 2 VH years of training minimum to achieve your
Animagus form under the direction of the Transfiguration professor.
LEGILIMENCY
A Legilimens is a witch or wizard who is
capable of sensing the thoughts of another person. The only known Legilimens in
Canon are Dumbledore, Professor Snape and Voldemort. Legilimency will only be
available to 5th years and up, and will require an Outstanding end of semester
mark in ALL subjects for the previous year leading up to application submittal.
If your application is successful, you will be required to undertake lessons
with a tutor for a minimum of 2 VH years.
METAMORPHMAGI
There had only been one mention of a
Metamorphmagus in Canon and that is Nymphadora Tonks. Metamorphmagi have the
ability to change their appearance at will. This talent cannot be learnt, only
inherited genetically. This ability will not be allowed at Virtual Hogwarts.
OCCLUMENCY
A wizard or witch with the power of
Occlumens can block the efforts of a Legimens from probing into their thoughts
and memories. As with Legimency, Occlumency will only be available to 5th year
students and up and will require an Outstanding end of semester mark in ALL subjects
for the previous year leading up to application submittal. If your application
is successful, you will be required to undertake lesson with a tutor for a
minimum of 2 VH years.
PARSELMOUTH
A witch or wizard who is a Parselmouth
has the ability to converse with a serpent in its own language. This talent is
extremely rare and cannot be learnt. It is also associated with Salazar
Slytherin, and Lord Voldemort, two of the most feared wizards in Wizarding
History and is therefore seen to be characteristic of Dark Wizards. This
ability has been restricted at Virtual Hogwarts because there is no real need
for a Parselmouth. The ability is virtually (pardon the pun) useless. If you
wish to submit an application, prepare to compose a lengthy explanation for its
usefulness for the development of you character, as well as impeccable grades.
SEER
A seer is a witch or wizard gifted with
the ability of the Seeing Inner Eye; they are able to predict certain future
events and prophesise to an extent. There have only been two certified seers in
Canon, Professor Trelawney and Cassandra Trelawney. If you wish to apply for
the power of Seer, you must have taken Divination for two years with an
Outstanding end of semester mark for each year. From that point, you may apply.
If your application is successful, the Divination professor will instruct you
and teach you how to develop your gift. Take note, seers whom have been
accepted. This talent is NOT automatic. You cannot see into the future and
predict events, nor can you interpret your first visions correctly. It will
take a minimum of 2 VH years to enable you to be able to control your gift and
use it properly. And you would do well to note that the only seer whom is alive
in Canon has only made TWO accurate predictions throughout her entire life.
For additional powers relating to the
area of Divination (e.g. premonition etc.) please contact Professor Armaya for
more information. The same guidelines will apply for those.
Remember, all additional powers that are
available to the students, staff and professors of Virtual Hogwarts are the
ones which have been mentioned in canon (the Harry Potter books), or which have
been expanded upon (some minor divinatory powers). If you submit an application
which requests a power not mentioned in canon, it will be rejected immediately,
and you will most likely be labelled a dunderhead by the Committee. :D
Please remember that to apply for an
additional power, you must be a third year student or higher, and you must
also be a regular participant in classes in order to be eligible.
Reading the rules of Virtual Hogwarts,
the History of Virtual Hogwarts and the Role Playing rules will give you an
enormous advantage when the time comes to submit an application.
Any application which is not in
accordance with the aforementioned rules and regulations will be immediately
rejected, and the applicant will be labelled a dunderhead also.
All applicants must submit an
application form.
If you merely write, 'I want a power...
this one - Seer,' your application will be rejected, and you might not even
receive a request for you to re-submit the application.
Basically, what I am trying to say is
use the bloody form! Savvy?
The Application Form:

You may submit your well thought-out

only STUDENTS. And what that means is that you will not be all
powerful and all knowing if you receive a power. More than likely, you will
have to be appointed an overseer, someone who will guide you in the development
of that power.
If you have any queries, comments, or
