Dusky woke up in the morning and hummed happily, quickly tying up her hair into two pigtails to keep it out of her face. She was going to duel this morning, and since it was with Sariss Ravon...she wanted to look especially cute. Unfortunately, disaster of disasters seemed to have happened in the night. The dorm cat had gone toilet on Dusky's robes! Large groans came out of Dusky's mouth as she placed the robes at the foot of her bed for the house elves to collect. She'd have to go in just her skirt and blouse...but even if it was the end of summer, 6am was a mighty cold time in this part of England...she pulled up her socks extra high and walked off to the chamber, tugging at her pocket to get some candy out. So it was that a young girl entered the duelling chamber, her cheeks and eyes bright, a wide smile on her face, chewing happily at karaoke licorice. This is a story about a girl named Dusky... Early morning, she wakes up Knock, knock, knock on the door It's time to get up, put on a smile It's you that Sariss is waiting for... She goes... "Oh, what a darling, this Hufflepuff girl?" And they say... Look, that's Dusky...she's so sweet But she cry, cry, cries, shuffling her feet, thinking if being cute were any help at all Then maybe I'd win just one duel Lost in her duels, in her dreams With just Sariss to wake her up And the chamber is duelling, and she's always smiling But tell me what happens when it stops? They go... "Oh what a darling, this Hufflepuff girl?" And they say... Look, that's Dusky...she's so sweet But she cry, cry, cries, shuffling her feet, thinking if being cute were any help at all Then maybe I'd win just one duel "Cutest dueller, and the winner is...Dusky!" "I'm Rita Skeeter for the Daily Prophet standing outside the chamber waiting for Dusky" "Sweet Merlin...here she comes!" What a darling, this Hufflepuff girl? Ickle Dusky, but why does she cry? If being cute, were any help at all Maybe she'd win just one duel... Look, that's Dusky...she's so sweet But she cry, cry, cries, shuffling her feet, thinking if being cute were any help at all Then maybe I'd win just one duel Dusky gagged, suddenly looking very uncute. This licorice. Why did she eat it! It bought nothing but pain...

Sariss once more made her way through the labyrinth of corridors inside Hogwarts castle. Hedgehog in her hand she was once more on her way to the Duelling Chamber. Nothing new there. Two out of three times when someone encountered Sariss in a corridor, she was saying something along the lines of ‘can’t chat, gotta duel’. She rummaged around in a pocket of her skirt. Her robe had suffered too much under one of Peeves’s assaults so she had just taken it off where she had been and left it there. The house elves would take care of it surely. And if not… well, there were more robes like that where the first one had come from. The Slytherin was now only wearing the school uniform that was usually mostly hidden by the robes. A knee-length grey skirt, a white blouse… the typical school girl outfit. The fact that she had actually brushed her long hair into pigtails that day only added to the entire picture, although she didn’t look quite as girly as she’d have looked if her hair had been shorter. When she was pulling her skirt a little bit lower (it always seemed too short for her, too much like a Sailor Moon costume—and she was glad that most of the purebloods didn’t know what that was or they’d tease the poor muggle-borns even more), she noticed that she had some yummy liquorice left! She pulled the almost empty bag out of her pocket and popped the last piece into her mouth. As she walked down another corridor she was starting to hum. And when she reached the corridor that was leading directly to the chamber, she couldn’t keep herself from singing any more. Bloody liquorice. I have the brains of a goldfish to fall for that over and over again… oh well… she thought, grumbling. But there she burst into song. I’m going to the chamber all alone And only Thorny is with me like always (li’l hedgehog) I’m opening the door and see Dusky Trying my best to quit singing. At this point Sariss had indeed opened the chamber to the Duelling Chamber and found her voice amplified by the vastness of the chamber. Some of her fellow students, particularly first-years, froze mid-incantation and goggled at her with big round eyes. The older years had probably grown accustomed to Sariss acting extremely oddly when she was entering the Duelling Chamber. I really want to know why this happens Oh this is embarrassing Merlin, no more liquorice No karaoke liquorice I don’t know how to live without duelling I was born to duel with Dusky Cause she’s the only one who’s not afraid I was born to duel with Dusky Every day and night she’ll duel with me That’s the way a dueller should be I don’t know how to live without duelling I was born to duel with Dusky Sariss went to join Dusky, blushing crimson. The little Hufflepuff would be rolling on the floor soon with laughter. For sure! I know it’s not been long since our High Noon But it’s been fair and fun, rinse and repeat (li’l huffie) Cause I like duelling with you so much It gives a duel the Dusky touch I don’t want to make a spell hit you So forgive me if I do If only I didn’t have to I don’t want to, yes it’s true Chant incantations, cast spells and hexes Officiator, please come here Just call out begin And we will be there Yes, we’ll show you how much we care

Sariss kept her mouth shut, or else she'd blurt out with an extremely silly song about granting Dusky first blood. It had happened once already. Not necessary to repeat it and sing something like 'Oops, I give you first blood!' She shuddered and gestured for Dusky to cast her spell.

Dusky shrieked as her legs began to move involuntarily. As she kicked her knees up and started pushing fists up and down, looking for all the world as if she was a puppet, she inwardly cursed licorice and all similar candies. "I know I may be young," she said...her forehead shoving itself down in confusion. "But I'm a dueller too. And I need to duel what I feel like duelling. So let me cast and just listen." Then her mouth sprang into a fish shape and she started to sing. "All you people look at me like I'm a little dueller. Well did you ever think it'd be okay for me to step into the chamber. Always saying little dueller, stay inside the club. Well I'm just tryin' to find out why cause duellings what I love. Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (WHOOA) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (WHOOOOOA)(Do you block it) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (OOOOHHHH)(This spells good) I know I may come off cute, I may come off surly. But I feel like casting, feel like duelling when I see this girly. What's sensible is logical. Sweet Merlin, who cares? All I know is I'm so happy when I'm duelling her. I'm casting flipendo. I cannot hold it; I cannot control it. I'm casting flipendo. I won't deny it; I'm not trying to hide it. Sariss, don't you wanna, block my spell. (I just wanna duel with you) Duel to second place. Sariss, don't you wanna, block my spell, (Are you ready) Leaving behind my house, my age. (Let's go) (Block that) (You block that) (Now watch her) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (WHOOA) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (WHOOOOA) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (OOOOHHHH) [shrieks] I really wanna duel, tonight with you. (Gotta prove myself) I really wanna cast my spells at you. (I just feel I'm not breaking through) I really wanna duel, tonight with you. (Wanna see you cast) I really wanna cast my spells at you. (Uh Uh Uh) Sariss, don't you wanna, block my spell. (I just wanna duel with you) Duel to second place. Sariss, don't you wanna, block my spell, (Are you ready) Leaving behind my house, my age. (Let's go) I'm casting Flipendo. (Block that) I cannot hold it; I cannot control it. I'm casting (Love that spell) Flipendo. (That spells good) I won't deny it; I'm not trying to hide it. (Sariss) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (WHOOA) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (WHOOOOA) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (OOOOHHHH) [shrieks] Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (WHOOA) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (WHOOOOA) Cast it cast it, cast it cast it (OOOOHHHH) [shrieks] I'm casting Flipendo. (Here we go now) I cannot hold it; I cannot control it. I'm casting Flipendo. (Here we go) I won't deny it, (Yeah) I'm not trying to hide it. (Block that)" Dusky collapsed on her platform, panting furiously, but the spell was on its way to Sariss. Thank heavens. 84 - 10 (LV1 Knockback Jinx) = 74 Hits: 0

Sariss goggled as Dusky began to dance in a really odd way… Kinda as if someone had put strings on her. She was panting with the effort of trying to keep moving and singing at the same time. Woah… Hopefully the liquorice wouldn’t cause Sariss to hop and kick like Rumpelstiltskin. But finally Dusky collapsed. She’d sent her spell. ”Dusky, can't you see I'm waiting I girl like you should wear some pigtails I'm dangerous I'm duelling There's no escape I can’t wait I’ll take the hit Dusky gave me it She’s dangerous I’m loving it Too fast Can’t dodge it Losing my wand Never will I be I’ll chant Aspergo then” When Sariss took the hit, she once more landed smack on her behind. If she wasn’t so used to that happening, she might have been embarrassed. Well, not anymore. It could be worse. Leeks could be sprouting out of her ears or she could be covered in mud from head to toe… Yes, there were definitely worse ways to make a fool out of someone. But everybody would have to be careful with pointing and laughing—because they might be next; because they might find themselves on the receiving end of such a hex soon too. Sariss didn’t begrudge it Dusky that she had hit her. A mischievous grin crossed her face and she disentangled her feet and scrambled back up, tugging on her skirt. It was too short! She wished she had her robe… Those skirts were just too short for girls her age—unless they absolutely had to flash their tights or panties at everyone. With the hit of a spell you wanna hide I'm Sariss I'm gonna hex you With the casting of just a single spell Our duel began Don’t you know that I’m Sariss? And I love duelling you But you know that I’m Sariss It’s getting late I won’t give up I took that hit And got back up Slowly “Aspergo” I say Too high Is my aim It’s in the air And it’s coming down Can you feel it now? With the hit of a spell you wanna hide I'm Sariss I'm gonna hex you With the casting of just a single spell Our duel began Don’t you know that I’m Sariss? And I love duelling you But you know that I’m Sariss But you know that I’m Sariss Hit of a spell, you wanna hide I'm Sariss I'm gonna hex you With the casting of just a single spell Our duel began Don’t you know that I’m Sariss? With the hit of a spell you wanna hide I'm Sariss I'm gonna hex you (Dusky) With the casting of just a single spell Our duel began Don’t you know that I’m Sariss? Cast a spell at me now Swish and flick, right now I think I’m ready now I won’t get hit right now Cast a spell at me now Swish and flick, right now I’m waiting for your spell Wow… That was a long song. Oddly catchy tune though. Sariss caught herself humming the chorus. Oh my… If you ate karaoke liquorice too often, would it stay forever? Would you never be able to talk normally again? Well, in that case, it might be possible to trick the magical effect by resorting to—Sariss shuddered—rap. 200 – 0 (hit) – 7 (LV3 Shower Charm) = 193

Dusky's eyes were wide as the spell hurtled her way...and as she watched, movement seemed to slow down for her. Turning away from Sariss, she pulled the hairties from her hair, and time seemed slow as she flicked it out, letting it flow over her shoulders. She looked around slowly over her shoulder, her eyelashes fluttering softly as she sank to her knees, resting on the podium, gripping it with her hands. I used to duel.... I beat the young ones all the time... But now I know.... That duels don't always.....go my way...yeah.... It feels like I'm duelling Sariss.... Thats when I realised..... Oh look I am..... I'm duelling Sariss...... Aspergo heading here.... Giving me quite a scare..... I know that it's hard..... To duel Sariss..... There is no need to protect me.... It's time that I... Learn to duel her just by my own...... I've duelled so much more than you know now... So tell me to try my best..... Oh look I am..... I'm duelling Sariss...... Aspergo heading here.... Giving me quite a scare..... I know that it's hard..... To duel Sariss..... But if you look at me closely..... You will see it in my hand.... This girl will always block... Obsidio........ Dusky rose to her feet, her arm forward, casting the spell. Her voice was stronger now. Oh look I am... (I'm blocking, don't tell me what to try) I'm duelling Sariss (I'm just trying to find the hex in me...yeah) All I need is time... A moment that is mine... While I'm duelling.... Duelling Sariss..... Now Go.... Flipendo 74 - 35 (LV1 Blocking Charm) - 10 (LV1 Knockback Jinx) = 29

“Oh Dusky Dusky, oh Dusky Dusky Oh Dusky Dusky, how was I supposed to know That you would block my Shower Charm Oh Dusky Dusky, I should have cast something else So you would have dodged it, yeah I’ll show you that I can block your spell Oh oh, Dusky, cause I don’t want to be hit by you Cause a hit hurts me so much—owwwww!” Sariss had obviously been too slow. As she landed smack on her behind again, she was inwardly cringing at the lack of quality in her lyrics. If the liquorice made her sing, it should at least also give her the talent to come up with decent rhymes and metaphors and all that good stuff that would turn her predicament into a work of art. Alas… Sariss was not so lucky. "Oh now decisions are killing me (oh yes) I must confess I can’t decide (can’t decide) When in the chamber, I lose my mind Give me a sign, tell me, Dusky, just this time! Oh Dusky Dusky, the reason I’m here is you Oy, that hit hurt so bad!” Sariss had blocked the spell just in the nick of time. Getting her behind whipped by a little Hufflepuff and having the floor mopped with herself was not her idea of a lovely evening. “Oh little Dusky, I don’t know which spell to cast It’s just I know so many!" She racked her brain. Which spell to use? Which one so she’d not fry little Dusky? After all this was supposed to be a fun and friendly duel. A part of her was of the opinion that she could cast the Silencing Charm to put Dusky out of her karaoke misery—and then sing as the top of her lungs, begging one of the officiators to cast the same spell on herself. ”Show me now that you can block this Show me, Dusky, cause you need to block this, oh because Oh now decisions are killing me (oh yes) I must confess I can’t decide (can’t decide) When in the chamber, I lose my mind Give me a sign, tell me, Dusky, just this time! Oh Dusky Dusky, the reason I’m here is you Oy, you almost hit me! Oh Dusky Dusky, how am I supposed to know Oh little Dusky, I should cut down on duelling I must confess that I can’t decide It’s killing me so Can’t you tell me what to do Well, you will stay here And give me some time Hex me Dusky one more time I must confess (I can’t decide) that I can’t decide (oh what to do) Don’t know what to do (I must confess) Don’t you (I must decide) know I must decide which spell to cast now (I have an idea) Soon I’ll have your wand… Dusky, Expelliarmus!” It was unlikely for Dusky to hand over her wand at this points, and Sariss wondered why she had been singing such nonsense. Oh well… What do you expect from Britney… 193 – 0 (hit) - 25 (LV2 Disarming Spell) = 168 2 hits

Dusky wailed furiously as the disarming spell came towards her. Again? Sariss always did this to her! No No No No No No No No No No No No I think you did it again You tried to disarm me...that's just so mean Oh Sariss I know it's easiest But you must realise...that I'm serious 'cause to lose yet again That is just so typically me... Oh Sariss, Sariss Ha!...I blocked you again Didn't see that coming...Obsidio Oh Sariss, Sariss Ha!...you thought you had won That I was so done... I'm not out quite just yet You see my problems still this I have less points Needing miracles, that might just exist I try, every day Can't you see I'm still here, duelling away But to lose yet again... That is just so typically me... Sariss, oh Ha!...I blocked you again Didn't see that coming...still in the game Oh Sariss, Sariss Ha!...you thought you had won That I was so done... I'm not out quite just No No No No No No No No No No No No Here I go Dusky, before you go, there's something I think you should know Oh, just four points, but wait a minute, isn't that...? Yeah, yes it is But I thought that four points could do practically nothing at all Well Dusky, I went searching in the spells and... Oh, just Flipendo? Ha!...I blocked you again Didn't see that coming...Obsidio Oh Sariss, Sariss Ha!...you thought you had won That I was so done... I'm not out quite just yet Ha!...I blocked you again Didn't see that coming, Obsidio Ha!...you thought you had won I'm not out quite just yet Dusky couldn't help but smile broadly. Her power...it was more diminished than she'd ever felt it before...and yet...she could still this. She sighed in relief as her tiny spell made its way towards Sariss...who would have thought she'd last this long? 29 - 25 (LV1 Blocking) - 3 (LV1 Knockback Jinx) = 1

As expected, Dusky held onto her wand tightly, too tightly for Sariss to disarm her. She sighed. It would have been a success. Dusky was fast becoming a better and better dueller and might one day pose a real threat whereas now she was merely one of the few people who weren’t afraid that Sariss would roast them on a stick. If Dusky wasn’t two years behind Sariss, she’d have long since have kicked the Slytherin’s behind; Sariss was sure of this. The Hufflepuff was clever and sneakier than her cuddly exterior made you expect. But that only made duelling with Dusky more fun! ”Dusky, I’m so into duels So many hexes, jinxes and spells Dusky, I love casting charms (oh) My wand is waving; incantations I chant Every time I cast that spell My voice is rising, here’s Obsidio! Duelling means so much more More than anything I’ve ever done before You drive me crazy I had to block This is exciting, I’m into duelling Ohh… Crazy, but don’t you worry Dusky, duelling you keeps me all happy Oh… Dusky, are you into duels? That I’m the only one I don’t think Dusky, just tell me the truth… oh That I’m not obsessed with duellin’ with you Huggling you means so much more More than duelling ever meant before You drive me crazy I had to block This is exciting, I’m into duelling Ohh… Crazy, but don’t you worry Dusky, duelling you keeps me all happy Duelling, I just can’t stop It’s so exciting I’m so obsessed Crazy, but it feels so good Every spell and every jinx It drives me crazy (It drives me crazy, Dusky) It’s so exciting; I’m so obsessed Ohh… Dusky (duelling makes me feel so good) Every day I tell you I am in the mood It drives me crazy, Dusky It drives me crazy You make duelling so fun yeah… yeah… Oh… It drives me crazy, but it feels so good Ohh… oh but it has to end Dusky, now comes my spell and I know it’s good It will not hurt you, Expelliarmus! Dusky, duelling you once more was great fun.” Sariss reached out to catch Dusky’s wand. This time it had to work. This time, Dusky would not be able to hold onto it… 168 – 3 (LV2 Blocking Charm) - 25 (LV2 Disarming Spell) = 140 2 hits

Dusky was staring mournfully at Sariss, as the familiar spell hit her once again. Her fingers uncurled, and Sariss's prize was quickly flinging away from Dusky. She opened her mouth sadly to congratulate her opponent, but as she did...a now-familiar tune seemed to come out. That was the story of the girl named Dusky... Every morning, that she duels Flip, Flip, Flip, Flipendo Always duelling, with a smile Though she'll end up on the floor They say... "Oh, what a darling, that Hufflepuff girl?" And they say... Look, that's Dusky...she's so sweet But she cry, cry, cries, shuffling her feet, thinking if being cute were any help at all Then maybe I'd win just one duel There's another duel, won in her dreams But Sariss just woke her up And the chamber is duelling, though Dusky ain't winning And tell me, will it ever stop? They go... "Oh what a darling, that Hufflepuff girl?" And they say... Look, that's Dusky...she's so sweet But she cry, cry, cries, shuffling her feet, thinking if being cute were any help at all Then maybe I'd win just one duel She smiled sadly and walked up to shake Sariss's hand. Finally...the licorice seemed to have gone from her tongue. "Congratulations," she whispered, giving Sariss as wide a smile as she could muster. 1 - wand = wandless Dusky Hits: 1
