| *An ill-looking Snape staggers into the classroom, and slumps in his chair. He takes a few moments, resting his head in hands, before looking up at the class, rubbing his bleary eyes* "Good M....Morning Pupilsh, I am Professhor Severush Shnape...........and *hic!* I welcome you to thish new poshuns clash....." A few pupils roll their eyes as Snape leans over and vomits into the waste paper basket. A young Gryffindor in the front row is overwhelmed by the stench of liquor and passes out. A young Slytherin plucks up the courage to approach his innebriated housemaster. He bends down over Professor Snape and tries to wake him up. Snape vomits some more, before opening his eyes ever so slightly* "What ish it you want mother? Shoory, I think I'm a littel drunk....I'm shlurring you shee. Do you want a homework ashignment? | Joshua Parker Ravenclaw Josh looked at the unconscious classmates. 'Wimps,' he thought. He then looked at the professor sadly and shook his head. He didn't blame the professor for passing out, after all, he was doing research. He picked up a mop and began to mop up the vomit. Alcohol can be dangerous in many different ways. If you drink too much, there is a good chance you may pass out from the intake. Also, when you are drunk, you have no control over emotions. Many people cry in their beer. They can also be very mean and harsh under the influences of alcohol. This is because they have no control over what they say. Their vision can also blur, eyes get bloodshot, speech get slurred and other things. Lastly, reflexes are slower. |

| Jermaine stayed after class in order to help clean the classroom. Jermaine looked around the class to see only him and another student up. He was suprised to see the boy use the muggle way of cleaning, "too much time in the muggle world and not enough in Charms." “Gosh the Professor sure did get wet (drunk!)! Maybe he may like it if I clean up a bit. Removing his wand from his pocket Jermaine began to repeat the “Purgarus!" charm all over the classroom until al of the vomit had disappeared. “Good!” Jermaine said as he was very pleased with his work. “Now to organize this clean mess!” he said as he went around the class and straightened up a bit. The Dangers of Alcohol…. By: Jermaine Jordon Gryffindor First Year. Alcohol is very dangerous especially in the muggle world. It contributes to over one hundred thousand deaths a year. Drinking is the third leading cause of muggle dealths. Alcohol has numerous side effects in and out of the muggle world. It effects your perceptions, dulls your senses, hampers dexterity, and effect memory. When a person become really drunk they may even do things they might regret. It’s important to limit drinking when you become of age. |

| *Kittie makes a face. "Clean up, hm?" She noticed a few students beginning to clean up majority of the vomit. "Yeah, okay then..." After using her wand to clean up someone's vomit off her chair she sat down to write. Kittie Sapphire 1st year Slytherin The dangerous of alcohol usually lead to the same things...pregnancy, regret, death, or even worse...hangovers. Most of the drunkness has to go somewhere, and I never want to clean it up again. It can also lead to alcohol poisoning, which can land you in the hospital wing. And, as you mentioned, alcohol can get you severly punished in Hogwarts. I don't personally think that a buzz is worth the risk of losing points or respect from your housemates. There's no point in alcohol, besides the buzz it can give you. Which, there are other ways to acheive the same buzz. |

| *Naria started cleaning the Potions classroom, silently urging her mates to do so as well. She proceeded to scrub the cauldrons vigourously, ignoring the strange looks she was receiving. So what she was feling particularly happy today, so she had decided to do her best in every class. After half an hour she realises she has been cleaning everything the muggle way. And she was a pure blood. Sighing, she shrugged quickly casting the Scouring Charm over the objects around her* Naria Daimo Slytherin 1-st year Potions Assignment Alcohol is an extremely dangerous substance. While it small amount it can be very healthy (muggle scientists have come to the conclusion that 2-3 sips a day are quite healthy), in larger amounts it can also be lethal. First of all people not used to alcohol, may achieve a state clled 'drunkennes' very easily. This state is characterised by loss of ability to mantain one's equilibrium, mumbing of incoherent words, and sometimes telling things (hidden thruths For those who drink regularly, and in considerable amounts, alcohol can asily become addictive. Such persons need some sort of it extremely often. They start shaking, and become violent if they don't get any. They are insane people, who will do anything for a 'drink'. Eventually, if the person is not cured (for this is a sickness), this state can lead to his/her death. |

| Gracie woke up and looked around the room. What happened? she asked herself. She turned and saw her classmates passed out all around her. Then she looked at Professor Snape. Poor thing. Although getting drunk is an idiotic thing to do so I don't have too much pity for him. At least he wasn't driving drunk.... Gracie let her thoughts stop there. She didn't even want to remember what happened to her oldest brother the night he got drunk and drove. He got into an accident and ended up dead. There were some things in her past that she didn't want to remember. That night was still too fresh in her mind. She then realized she was about to pass out again from the smell of vomit. She never did have a strong stomach. She got out a mop and started mopping the floor and washed the waste basket that had vomit all in it. When she was done she decided to go and take a shower in her dorm. Before she left the room she layed an Excedrin down for Snape to take when he woke up. It might help with his headache. She then left the room for her dormitory. While Gracie was in the shower, she thought of all the dangers of alcohol. There were lots of them. There was the fact that drinking and driving could get you killed. There was taking medication with alcohol could put you in a coma. There was also the fact that you could get raped from being drunk and being too drunk to know what was happening around you. There was also the minor things like hangovers and vomiting. All in all, alcohol was a very dangerous thing that had to be used wisely if you wanted to use it at all. |

| Miriam rushes over to professor snape and starts to clean him up from all the vomiting. Miraim wipes his head with a wet towel and then goes to help others in cleaning. miriam picks up papers that professor snape has dropped and placed them on his desk. Then she immediatly goes and gets the nurse. homework Crime is inextricably related to alcohol. More than 1.1 million annual arrests for illicit drug violations, almost 1.4 million arrests for driving while intoxicated, 480,000 arrests for liquor law violations and 704,000 arrests for drunkenness come to a total of 4.3 million arrests for alcohol and other drug statutory crimes. That total accounts for over one-third of all arrests in this country. Rapes, fights, and assaults leading to injury, manslaughter, and homicide often are linked with alcohol because the perpetrator, the victim, or both were drinking. The need for preventing alcohol and other drug problems is clear when the following statistics are examined: Alcohol is a key factor in up to 68 percent of manslaughters, 62 percent of assaults, 54 percent of murders/attempted murders, 48 percent of robberies, and 44 percent of burglaries. Among jail inmates, 42.2 percent of those convicted of rape reported being under the influence of alcohol or alcohol and other drugs at the time of the offense. Over 60 percent of men and 50 percent of women arrested for property crimes (burglary, larceny, and robbery) who were voluntarily tested, tested positive for alcohol use. many reported child abuse and neglect cases were the cause of drunk parents. There were 1,154 deaths from direct alcohol related problems and 5,685 deaths indirectly due to alcohol. Alcohol related deaths accounted for 9.4% of all deaths. Though this is clearly not just a problem for teenagers, they may represent one of the best groups with which to start. After all, they will shape the alcohol policy for the next generation to come. sorry professor that i wrote more. |

| Sharon sat at her desk, her mouth ajar; hardly breathing and her eyes fixed on the Professor. She sat there shocked at the Professor's actions and behavior. Was this the same man that had scared the cripes out of her on the first day? It couldn't be. She thought. Sharon blinked her eyes hard and looked around slowly, half the class was out cold. Good thing your nose if stuffed up. She thought taking a gulp of air before standing up. "Purgarus." She said, pointing her wand at a puddle of, something that was on the floor. Honestly, Sharon felt bad for the Professor and even if her had not assigned the class to clean up, she would have done it anyway. Even if he scared her half to death each time he walked by her desk. After using the charms she had learned in the Charms class, Sharon placed an extra robe she found on the sleeping Professor. Then fluffed up pieces of parchment on Snapes desk before heading back to her own.

| Auna looked around, and took a wet towel and washed the lab tables. While walking around, she covers her mouth with her other hand, and thinks of opening a window. After drying off the tables with another towel, she walked over and opened a window or two, trying not to step on anyone who was still lying down. The Dangers of Alcohol Alcohol can not only harm you physically, but socially, and psychologically as well. When a person drinks alcohol, holes are formed in the brain, and some will stay there for the rest of their life. Drinking can cause negative consequences, like violence towards others, physical dependency, and pyschological dependency. These not only wear into the drinker themselves, but the people around them as well. The drinker begins to lose control, and becomes very defensive. They begin to lie, deny, and blame others for the drinking problem once they have one. Drinking can become the center of your life, and it leads to your family lying to protect themselves and the drinker. The person becomes a problem drinker, leading to uncontrolling their behavior and emotions. They also get very sick, get in trouble with the law, and physically and emotionally harms others. They cause other people's problems, and could be stupid enough to drink and drive. The problem drinker, who become one due to a curiosity for one drink, could and more than likely will, obtain alcoholism, which is a chronic progressive disease that can be fatal if not treated. Drinking a couple drinks is nice to you, isnt it? |

| Before Ailey leaves the class room, she uses a couple charms that she learned to help clean up part of the classroom. Ailey Topern Gryffindor Potions assignment 3 Alcohol is itself a potion, and can be a very dangerous one at that. It affects both the muggle and wizarding world. Alcohol affects the way that the mind works. It is a depressent so it slows down the workings of the brain. If too much of this substance is consumed, one can loose control of the mind and will not be able to contorl his actions. Alcohol has different affects, it can cause people to be overly barbaric and violent, wildly unruley, and rude and obnoxious. When under the influence, one tends to under estimate the amount that they have had to drink, so they will drink more since they think they have had less than they acutally did. Alcohol tends to throw off the equillibrium of the body, causeing one to stumble around. Probably the worst side affect of alcohol is that it takes 30 hours for every ounce that is consumed to be completely flushed out of your system, which makes the effects long lasting. |

| Adrianna Lupin Gryffindor Adrianna Lupin let out a miserable sigh as she looked around the room. Poor professor Snape, she thought miserably as she began to help her classmates clean up the vomit-covered dungeon. Homework The effects of alcohol are many and varied. Mistakes can be made, lives can be lost, and heads and stomachs can be affected in a major way by hangovers caused by alcohol abuse. Picture yourself at a wild party, thrown by one of your closest friends. You drink a few beers, have a bit of fun, and suddenly you see this absolutely beautiful boy/girl from across the room. You dance with them, and before you know it the two of you are in a bedroom. You can’t remember what happened the next morning. Three weeks later you discover that little mistake you made at a party has resulted in an accidental pregnancy. Oops! Alcohol can help create a life by accident, or it can destroy several. Ironic, isn’t it? |

| Genevieve St. Claire Ravenclaw Potions #3 Genevieve wrinkles her nose in disgust as she started to wash the windows which had vomit on it. How it got there was no clue to her. When she was finished she left and got started on her homework. Well, professor, as you can see alcohol can make you violently sick though at first it maybe fun and good after a while it turns bad. You get hangovers, impaired judgment and if you drive a muggle car can cause death to others. In a close family friend my maman's friend Louise's husband was hit by a drunk driver and in the accident the 18 year old boys who were drunk lived and Louise's husband died on impact. alcohol is no way good for you. I mean Martin died because he was sober and from shock and those boys because of the alcohol the because they were too drunk they didn't even go into shock. Alcohol is a dangerous thing that kills. it kills you, family and others. When you are drunk you can't control your rage or anything. You can harm a person and not even remember it in the morning. Not to mention the damage it does to your liver. Years of drinking slowly kills you and makes you a fool |

| Sebastian Darwin Slytherin 1st year Seb looked at his drunken unconscious professor. Pointing his wand, he said, Purgarus to clean up the puddle of vomit someone had over looked. Going back to his seat, he took out his parchment and quill, and got writing. “Brain: Alcohol depresses the central nervous system and contracts brain tissue and destroys brain cells – the only cells that do not regenerate. Taken in large amounts over a long period of time, alcohol can cause serious problems with cognition and memory. Heart: Heavy drinking can cause heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and heart failure. People who only drink on special occasions, but binge sometimes get irregular heartbeats. Liver: Liver damage often begins with a fatty liver, and may progress to alcoholic hepatitis. Followed by the buildup of scar tissue known as cirrhosis. Cirrhosis can change the structure of the liver and choke off blood flow. Kidneys: Alcohol is a diuretic that increases urine production. Drawn out heavy drinking can cause kidney failure. Reproductive system: In males, it damages the production of sperm and testosterone, and can lead to infertility and impotence. In females, the result can be decreased estrogen metabolism in the liver which increases the amount of estrogen circulating in the body, which can contribute to menstrual irregularities and even infertility.” ((There was much more to this, Professor, but I had to take out some factors as it was too long. Granted it still is, but any shorter it wouldn’t contain enough facts. Forgive me? Some references are to my medical encyclopaedia *Thanks Readers Digest*.)) |

She had also seen people in worse states than Professor Snape. A girl sitting at her table had vomited and passed out. "Purgarus. I hope that's clean enough for Snape. She took out some parchment and started her essay. Alcohol can be very dangerous to the users health as well as others. Drivers under the influence of alcohol are the causes of many automobile accidents. Pregnant women's children can have many side effects from their mothers having consumed alcohol. Alcohol use can damage the liver. It can also cause the heart to stop(this comes straight from RL... a guy I know passed out and his heart stopped for a short time). In short, alcohol should only be consumed at certain time(i.e. when the user doesn't have to drive) and it should be consumed in moderation. Sorry it's a little over 100 words. |

| Annaleise Lee Ravenclaw First Year Annaleise looked at her Potions professor and grabbed a towel to wash the desk that he had vomitted on. She remembered how the Alcholol potion ruined her friends family... Alcholol is NEVER EVER good because the fact that once you become drunk, you do some of the stupidest things that you will later regret. Also drinking cost quite a bit of money especially if you're drinking special mixes of wines. In the muggle world, many deaths are caused from impared drivers who has had a drink before they drove. Many innocent people die and families get hurt. My friends father use to drink. It started out as small drinks but soon he became a heavy drinker and started doing stupid things. Now, he's stuck with two wives because of a stupid thing that he did when he was drunk. That's why drinking is BAD!!!!! |

Sariss Ravon Slytherin 1st year Cleaning up the classroom and lab: Oh dear, Sariss thought as she perceived the mess. Fortunately her allergies had struck violently once more and her nose was totally swollen. She couldn’t have smelled it if somebody had thrown a dozen dungbombs. Minus the stench the sight didn’t affect her that much. She shuddered at the reactions of some of her fellow classmates who ‘ate backwards’ as Sariss’s mother had liked to put it. “Somebody will have to wipe all this stuff up... Eww... Who had spinach for lunch? Yuck!” It looked terrible when it was served on a plate. But it was nothing compared to what was---“Stop thinking about that or you’ll add to it, Sariss!” she chastised herself. The Professor had passed out for a second time—but not before he had handed out the assignment. A Slytherin boy read the parchment aloud and Sariss couldn’t help but think: I should’ve seen it coming. How very practical that Professor Flitwick had taught them the Scouring Charm already. How even more practical that Sariss knew how to cast it. She was even good at it! (Thanks to a detention that she’d rather erase from her brain. Her wandarm still hurt and gave another twitch when the thought crossed her mind that she’d have to cast the spell for several times...) Sariss set to work. Indeed, all of the students who’d managed to hold their lunch helped clean the dungeon and laboratory. “Purgarus!” she exclaimed once but then resorted to whispering. If Snape woke up, he’d certainly be in need of a headache potion... Hopefully he’d already prepared one, knowing that he’d get drunk... Otherwise he’d certainly be extremely hung-over... Everybody was busy cleaning or shoving sick students out of the way or getting out of their way so they could run to the bathrooms... Or running after them to clean up the mess they produced when they didn’t make it. It was MAYHEM! But it was also A LOT of inspiration for the assignment about the dangers of alcohol she’d have to write later... When the bell rang, the room was clean and shiny once more—as shiny as the Potions classroom could get anyway—and the students grabbed their more or less smelly bookbags and filed out quietly. Snape was still passed out. The Dangers of Alcohol – A VERY short discourse Alcohol has overall disasterous effects. Small units cause several hundreds of brain cells to cease to function and die. Larger doses will make you lose control. You’ll act strangely, alienate people and just plain embarrass yourself. Not to mention the blackouts, hangovers, violent outbursts, depression, the commiting of crimes and causing of accidents. If you drink regularly, you’ll grow accustomed to it. You’ll need more and more to feel the desired effect. The addiction (alcoholism)might make you lose your job and/or destroy your family. Large regular doses slowly poison the entire body, cause ulcer and cancers, and will eventually lead to liver cirrhosis and death. I really tried to shorten this, Professor. Despite all my efforts, it’s still 5 words too long. Forgive me? (I could have written MUCH more. Before I shortened it, it was almost 200 words...). |

| Allie Potter Gryffindor Lesson 3: The Dangers of A Powerful Poison
Allie looked around the classroom. She took out a mop and began to clean up the excessive amounts of vomit throughout the classroom. When she was finished she began to write: Alcohol is a deadly and dangerous substance that impares your judgement, changes how you think, and costs lives. It is not worth it to guzzle back a few shots and cost someone a life when you foolishly get behind the wheel of a muggle car or a broomstick. The greatest danger from alcohol is injury due to the drinker being more clumsy and less mentally sharp. In 1990, 15% of fatal road accidents were alcohol related and 32% of all pedestrians killed in road accidents were under the influence of alcohol.(http://area51.upsu.plym.ac.uk/infoserv/drugs/graphical/alcdang.html) Real life speaking: My biological father is a hard core alcoholic. It has cost him two marriages and three children. We have shut him out of our life. When he was married to my mother he was abusive to the both of us, and quite dangerous. He has been in jail many times for DUI (Driving under the influence) and still continues to be irresponsible. He had numerous drunken affairs and even made another woman pregnant when married to my mother. Unfortuantley(Depending how you look at it, i think it is quite sad for the child) the baby was a miscarriage and was not born. I have seen what it is too be drunk and to hurt those you love. I have friends who have lost loved ones to drunk driving accidents. A drunk driver is not the only one at risk. Passangers in the car, or in the car they hit, are at risk if not more so. There are many other side effexts to alcohol including vicious hangovers and alcohol poisoning. When someone drinks too much and they throw up or vomit, they are at risk of choking to death while doing so. Alcohol is the world's most popular drug. Alcohol is virtually legal everywhere.(http://www.drugs-forum.com/alcohol.html) I hope in sharing my story opens the awareness for some people. I have friends who drink, I myself have tried it, I won't lie. But I learned my lesson, and I hope everyone else gets a chance to realize how harmful alcohol is before it is too late and costs a life, whether it be their own or someone else's... (Sorry I did not RP as much in this, i thought it more appropriate to do so in the manner I did. Thank you for the class Professor.) |

| Class: Potions Teacher: Snape Messon: 3 The Effects and Dangers of a Powerful Poison: Alcohol The Effects One Gets: The effects one gets from alcohol can be anything from A-Z. You can become very drunk and slur words, get blurred vision, lose self control, and lose your thought of judgement. Many people who consume enough alcohol to get drunk may not be able to walk correctly, talk correctly, or he may even see doubles or triples of something. Some serious effects would be hallucinations, and even heavy day dreaming. The Dangers One Might Cause: The danger one might cause to him/herself or to others could be stupid and meaningless, or could be fatal. You can become drunk, or someone can make you drunk. Then, if you get on a broom, you could harm another by not thinking straight, or your your reaction time might be slowed down by what you drank, ending in a crash. ANd for muggles, there "automobiles" (heavy muggle-machinery used for transportation) could end in a very fatal crash, but not only to himself, but also to others. And, if someone got you highly intoxicated enough, they could pry confidential or very secret information from you, and you wouldn't even remember. The Aftermath: The aftermath of drinking is horrible. You get a type of "hangover" where you wake up after a hard night of drinking and sleeping. You hardly remember anything and feel like total crap. Thats just about it. People mostly used this powerful potion to forget there problems, or just becuase they want to be "cool." --*Gwendolyynn Warner Hufflepuff House OOC: I know I did extra, but I was bored... |

| Colubra, Mer Slytherin, first year Potions Lesson #3 "Oh gross," Mer groaned when she observed the mess around her. "We have to clean this up? Ew!"She sat back on her chair and smirked while her classmates began mopping up the filth around her. Some even started to pull out their wands. "Oh yeah, that Scouring Charm... hm... I suppose I should help, a little," she sighed. then she used the charm to clean a patch of the desk she was sitting at, "Okay, I'm done. Time for my little essay." (Just a note: the "you" in this isn't you Professor, just an understood you) You can go to a bottle of it for the first time for many reasons. You want to fit it with your friends or something happened and you're majorly depressed and you think that this drink could help you. A couple bottles later, you're not quite sure what's going on but you think you're having a good time. Everything's fuzzy and really loud and there seems to be a ringing in your ear. But hey! You're the life of the party! This alcohol really lets you be free. The next morning you wake up with a killer headache. And some stranger lying next to you. What in the world happened the night before?! The alcohol affected your brain and impaired your judgement. That's just one of the many effects of alcohol. With the long term effects of drinking alcohol, not just you yourself suffer, those around you suffer. They have to put up with your mood swings, your bouts of anger, and the harmful diseases that come later. (I.e.: some body parts not working properly. And all because you couldn't stay away from the bottle. |

| Yuk, said Shania. This was a big mess. Oh well. Vomit Everywhere. I do get into the worst prediciments anyway. Dangers Of Alcohol Alcohol is a dangerous substance to muggles and wizards. As we have seen today, it makes the person slur their words and react slower. It makes them sick and they vomit continuously. They will be in risk of danger because they won't react well. They are all unaware of everything they do, therefore, do not trust a drunk person to do anything but vomit. Also, it does not take away worries as everyone thinks. It does temporarily, but then after, it comes back full force and isn't pleasent. Also, after being drunk, you are in a state called a hangover. Then you vomit and are extremely sick and tired. Alcohol is a dangerous thing! |

| Kyra opened her eyes; then she sat up slowly. "What am I doing on the floor of the potions classroom?"she asked herself looking confused. "Oh that's right someone knocked over a cauldron when I leaned over to pick up my quill. Must have hit me on the head," she muttered feeling a bump on her head. The classroom didn't look anything like it had before. Instead of vomit and chaos; there were students cleaning the room, writing at their desks, and still others passed out on the floor. "What are we doing?"she asked a boy who was using the scouring charm to clean the floor. "Here, read this." he muttered and stalked off. Kyra read their assignment and studied the room. "There isn't much left to clean. I think someone had better check on Professer Snape though." She walked to the front of the room to find her teacher slumped over on the floor, passed out. "That can not be comfertable," she stated and pulled out her wand. "I hope you don't get mad if I use this...Pulvinar." Another student walked over,"What did you just do!?" | Coraline read the paper that someone had pulled from Snape's pocket. As she let the other students get on with cleaning up the mess - she didn't make it, and she certainly wasn't about to clear it up - Coraline rifled through her satchel to find her own copy of last week's homework. Reading it over, she could see why Snape hadn't awarded points to her. A lot of what she'd written was based on very questionable moral standards. But when it came right down to it, the people involved would be better off because of what she'd done. And surely other students would have had reasons that were purely for the good of society. In her muggle school, the teachers had marked all the students against oneanother so that there would always be an even distribution of marks. Obviously things didn't work like that in the wizarding world. Coraline put the paper back into her bag and retreated upstairs, away from the smell of the potions lab, to begin this week's homework. Coraline DeMagpyr Slytherin The Dangers of Alcohol Misuse of alcohol is a major preventable risk factor for a wide range of diseases and injuries, including various cancers, cardiovascular disease, cirrhosis of the liver, alcohol dependence, motor vehicle accidents, drownings and suicides. Globally alcohol is estimated to be responsible for 1.8 million deaths per annum worldwide. The alcoholic personality as such does not exist. There is no difference between the mental health and pre-morbid personality of the alcohol-dependent person and the non-dependent person. Most, but not all, psychological problems in alcohol-dependent people are secondary to the effects of drinking. In some a psychiatric disorder (eg affective disorder, antisocial personality disorder) is primary and precedes the abnormal drinking behaviour. There are almost no psychological symptoms or syndromes which cannot be caused or exacerbated by alcohol and other drug misuse. Common psychological problems caused/ effected by alcohol dependency Suicide attempts and suicide Depression Loss of memory or blackout Anxiety Hyperexcitability and rage states Paranoid reactions Schizophrenia Insomnia Antisocial behaviour Social Complications Isolation from family and community activities Life revolving around drinking activities Increased frequency of driving accidents Increase in acts of violence and crime Financial and legal problems Frequent absenteeism, and varied medical reasons for absence from work Impaired job performance Frequent changes of employment and the threat of job loss Industrial accidents |

Bracing herself and trying not to faint, she gulped, and began to use a Scouring Charm to clean up as much of the mess as possible. DANGERS OF ALCOHOL Alcohol is a terrible thing. First you get addicted, then you go mad(sort of), and then you die, as a summary. Alcohol is a poison. It causes many accidents in Muggle cars and can get people very upset, even the drinker. It's truly evil and not right. If you are drinking alcohol, stop and look both ways first. |

She along with other student try to clean the air from the smell of liquor. The Dangers of Alcohol While the moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with better health and longer life than is abstinence, the heavy consumption of alcohol, especially over a period of many years, can lead to serious health problems and even death. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is an irreversible condition associated with excessive consumption of alcohol by pregnant women and is, therefore, completely preventable. Each and every case of FAS is a needless tragedy. Victims suffer serious physical deformities and often mental deficiencies. And, they suffer these problems for their entire lives. While most cases occur among alcoholics who consume alcohol heavily throughout their pregnancies (usually in combination with smoking and often illegal drug use), no one knows for certain what level of alcohol consumption is safe for a pregnant woman. Cirrhosis is probably the most widely recognized medical complication of chronic alcoholism. It is a grave and irreversible condition characterized by a progressive replacement of healthy liver tissue with scars, which can lead to liver failure and death. |

| O gosh, a drunk person... right at this moment, Professor Snape reminded Davide oddly of his grandfather every Christmas eve... how revolting... being only 11 Davide had naturally been retrained from consuming alcohol by his parents and certainly didn't see any sense in consuming it. He thought he might at well use this time to do his homework before be lose his motivation for it. The affects of alcohol can be devastating upon its consumer... Alcohol is seen as a potion that is often drank in all occasions and excess consumption of this potion can lead to devastating effects to both wizards and muggles alike (unfortunately). Alcohol has the possibility of affecting all organs with the body as it reaches directly into the bloodstream, and is seen as a depressant. Excess consumption can lead to impaired judgement, dulling one's senses, affecting the mind and memory, a loss of appetite and eventually led to organ damage of the liver, heart and the nervous system. Continuous consumption of excess amounts of alcohol can led to death in the manner of the failure of one's organs or simply due to alcohol poisoning. Due to the fact that alcohol is a depressant upon the nervous system, continuous consumption can also lead eventually to mental disorders, most commonly depression. In conclusion to this, alcohol is most certainly a most powerful potion and its consumption ought to certainly treated with most caution. Davide looked up from his paper... gosh, he was starting to feel sick... he was becoming much more sympathetic towards his grandfather who he was sure is currently dying of something right now with all the horrid effects of alcohol... maybe he ought to write home right now to check if his grandfather was alright... |

| Ally Terril Slytherin Oh My God!!! How much Alchohol has Professor Snape had?!?!?! The Dangers of Alchohol Alchohol causes many longterm illnesses and short-term ones. The most obvious of which is inability to think properly and reflexes to slow. The reason these things happen is because the Alchohol affects the brain. If Alchohol is drunk irregularly with big spaces in between, the affects will only be short-term. However if it is drunk very regularly, i.e. every night, it will start to produce long-term damages to the brain. It not only slows the brain but starts to shrink it. We must remember that Alchohol will not just ruin the lives and bodies of those who drink it but those who fall at the hands of those who have been drinking. For example people knocked down by drunk drivers. Young people who have been drunk and attacked others. Alchohol can KILL!!! |

So I light a few candles and begin to throw away papers and bottles of butterbeer into the wastebasket on top of the vomit. *ewwwww! Okay, I think I have completed the whole cleaning up portion...* >backs away slowly...< At my old Muggle School, they would always have assemblys over Alcohol, Smoking, and Sex. It was the same story for all of them-They are all bad for you. Everyone knows that, but alot of people still do it. Back in Texas, where I used to live, there would be a car accident involving a drunk driver at least 100-400 times every six months. Alcohol disables your right to fully function properly. When mildly drunk, you still have conciousness of your brain and everything, but sometimes you may say or do things that you normally wouldnt. When you are really drunk you probably still have little knowing what you are doing, or remember any of it when you wake up the next morning. Sometimes though, people can get alcohol poisinng, or too much can either damage your liver or make you go into a coma. Alot of people have died from the use of alcohol. Driving is probably the worse one though. In drivers ed, I learned that driving drunk is the equivilant of taking a machine gun and shooting it down the street. ~Amy Macio~ ps. hope ya feel better professor! |

After cleaning up around her desk and the desks of the passed out students around her Luminara took out her quill and parchment to begin her homework. "I better hurry up with this before I pass out!" The Dangers of Alcohol Alcohol can be dangerous in many ways. First, alcohol can kill brain cells. A person who drinks just one bottle of alcohol kills about one thousand of their own brain cells. The brain cells may take years to grow back. Second, alcohol can make you unaware of your surroundings. When you drink it you forget where you are. This is what causes most muggle car wrecks. Third, your body can only consume so much alcohol before it becomes seriously harmed. Alcohol is a poison, and it acts like one. Depending on a person's body weight, consuming a certain amount of alcohol will kill them. For example, lets say you weigh ninty to one hundred pounds and drink alcohol. By the time you have drunk the equivilant of six drinks you're in a comma. Your body can't handle that much alcohol. It's killed so many brain cells that if you ever do wake up you will have the intelligence of a vegatable. Last, alcohole makes you do stupid things. When people drink alcohol they think they can do things they can't, such as fly. This is also caused by loss of brain cells. This is what causes people to shoot others, or stab themselves just to see if it hurts. |

Alcohol, although it produces certain enjoyable emotions, is actually quite dangerous if used improperly. Alcohol is addictive, and contains toxins the liver must filter out. Over time, the liver of an alcoholic can become hard as it works harder and harder to take out the poisonous substances in a drink. Alcohol also hinders a person's ability to think and process information. He or she may do things they normally wouldn't do, and lose their coordination. A loss of good coordination is dangerous for anyone driving under the influence of alcohol, to themselves and others. |

It can lead to death, serious physical injury and family or relationship problems. Alcohol affects your judgement, vision, internal organs, physical appearance, mental capacity, and memory just to name a few. The Dangers of Alcohol Alcohol is a very dangerous substance, one of the worst affects of alcohol is that it affects you judgment. When you are under the influence of it you are very vunarable and can be easily persuaded to do just about anything, from having sex, to hurting yourself and others. Other affects af alcohol on your physical self are lack of vision, dizziness, and also your reflexess will be very slow. It is very hard to understand and process information therfore anything that anyone tells you, you will most likely believe or agree to. Alcohol also has long lasting affects. If you drink often enough the alcohol will permanatly damege your liver and your throat. Another long lasting affect is it's ability to tear apart families. In some situations you will become aggressive and attack and hurt anyone that gets in your way. Thus if you get drunk enough, often enough you will hurt even the ones you love. Alcohol abuse can also cause problems with the fetus in pregnancy. Homicides and suicides are more likely to take place if that person is under the influence. Alcohol also impairs a person?s senses. Sometimes you get happy people, sometimes sloppy, and sometimes, you get rude obnoxious people. More often than not, alcohol causes the person who is consuming it to become depressed. This is because alcohol is a depressant. A person will experience a high, or buzz, and after that high has gone, they are left in a worse mood than they started in. The danger is when we intake too much alchohol. When intaken a small amount, the liver can still succesfully break down the alcohol but too much intake of this would cause sickness to the body. More obvious effects are speech impediments, memory loss, clumsiness and the worst which is commatose. Alcohol is also considered a depressant but sometimes it makes people agressive. Not sure where she is, Lelly is suddenly reminded of her whereabouts due to the stench of liquor and vomit that reaches her nostrils. Gagging a bit, Lelly looks up and sees Jermaine trying to wake her. Lelly feebly stands and looks around the room. "So, I suppose we are supposed to be cleaning up this mess," Lelly says with a weak scowl on her face. She sits down for a second to orient her surroundings then she stands and pulls out her wand. "Muggle cleaning, whatever..." she says as she remembers the scouring charm she'd learned the week before. Lelly swishes, flicks, and points her wand at a particularly nasty pool of vomit while muttering, "Pugarus!" Red sparks flew from Lelly's wand but nothing happened. "Fine!" she said with a disdainful look on her face. She put her wand away and rolled up her sleeves, "We better be getting extra credit for this nastiNess!" she muttered to Jermaine as she walked out the door only to return minutes later with a bucket and scrub brush. "I hate muggle cleaning," she complained as she began to dip the brush in the bucket and scrub the vomit from the dungeon floor. "Dragon bogies are one thing, but this is utterly disgusting!" Lelly used her sleeve to wipe the sweat from her brow and before she could stop it, the smell had turned her stomach in one too many flops so Lelly purged all over the area she had been cleaning. Lelly swore loudly then quickly looked over at her inebriated, passed out professor, "Shew! Those who are unconcious can't hear such language!" Lelly then resolved she would have that much more vomit to cleanse. After three quarters of an hour, Lelly looked up, seeing no one else, she relented leaving her scrub brush and bucket where they were. She started to leave, then turned back around. Seeing her Professor on the floor, despite the cushioning charms and so forth that other First Years tried to cast, she knew she could not leave him that way. She knew that someone had sent for the nurse, but unable to perform any charms to aid him, she ran out and retrieved Calen and Jermaine in the almost empty corridor to have them carry him to the hospital wing. Crossing her fingers that Madame Pomfrey could cure his "difficulty" Lelly left to begin her homework. The abuse of Alcohol, such as in the case of binge drinking, is very dangerous to one's health indeed. I have compiled a list of consequences that can occur when one abuses this subtance. 1 out 4 deaths in young males is contributed to the abuse of alcohol Binge drinking can lead to irrepairable brain damage, particularly in the adolesence it can cause long term memory difficulties and damages the areas of the brain associated with learning and recalling. Also binge drinking during adolesence leads the brain to respond more sensitively to alcohol in the future. Imbibing to much alcohol irritates the stomach, and may cause nausea or vomiting. Alcohol dehydrates the body and what we know as hangovers are partially caused by this.(*shakes head and feels sorry for her professor when he awakens*) These are short-term affects. Alcohol is a poison that can damage all the organs, particularly the liver which is used to process the poison and rid it from the body High-blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, many cancers are alcohol related It is a highly dangerous substance that when abused can be life-altering, if not life-threatening. |

Dangers of drinking are usually only when you drink too much. People have a diffrent high tolerance of alcohol. Alcohol is a nervous system depressant, which can affect virtually every organ in the body, since it goes directly into the bloodstream. It lowers inhibitions and impairs judgment, leading to unsafe behaviors, and eventually even death. When alcohol accumulates in your bloodstream, your errors will increase. Your reaction time slows down drastically, and you find that you are unable to control your vehicle, or other items, as you did prior to drinking. In addition, it creates a false sense of confidence- so you may not realize that you are out of control. Drinking, even at moderate levels, can put you at risk for serious health and social problems. Alcohol interacts negatively with more than 150 medications. You should also remember that alcoholism is just one of the diseases caused by alcohol. This disease can lead to others, such as cirrhosis and cancer of the liver. Site: do this later |

He sat down at his desk, pulled out a quill and a parchment and began to list the dangers of alcohol. Alcohol… 1. may become an addiction. 2. and the addiction to it can run in the family. 3. over consumption can (obviously) lead to vomiting and loss of consciousness. It may also lead to a coma and even death. 4. has an adverse effect on your vision. 5. also decreases coordination and response time. 6. leads to a difficulty controlling emotions. 7. can lead to premature births and still-born (dead) babies. 8. FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome). 9. is connected to kidney and liver damage. Satisfied with his list, Lockore puts his things away and leaves his assignment on Snape’s desk. After one last look to make sure Professor Snape is still alive, and to roll him over so he doesn’t drown in his own vomit, Lockore walked out of the room shaking his head. O.o.C. I could have gone on and on about this, but I trust I've made my point. Those of you who may be thinking about starting to drink, come talk to me first. I assure you there are worse things that I felt could get me in big trouble if I put them here. |

Carl Sigmund Falkin Hufflepuff It took the majoraty of the class period to clean up the room. Although he offered to help take Professor Snape back to his room, the Slytherins objected. So, he spent his time lifting tables so others could clean under them. Once that was done, Falkin set about to work. The Dangers of Alcohol: There are many dangers in consuming alcohol, especially to those of us who are still physically/emotionally/intellectually maturing. Alcohol can have serious and permenant effects on a young person (such as stunted growth and decreased IQ). In addition, while under the influence of alcohol, one is impaired in every way, shape, and form. As Professor Snape showed us by selflessly inebreating himself to the point catatonia so we students may see the dangerous effects of drinking first hand. |

| Kiari sat still in awe at the state the Professor was in, he was lying on the floor unconsious and covered in his own vomit. The smell was disgusting and Kiari took a few stpes away from the Professor to clean some other part of the room. She lifted her slender wand and quietly said "Purgarus" - quite a useful little charm that she had learnt about in her Charms lesson not too long ago. The area of the floor where she had aimed her wand at was now cleaned of the vomit that had been there before. She then went to help clean the rest of the room with the members of her class and after that she sat back down at her desk, took out some parchment and a quill from her bag and started her homework on the Dangers of Alcohol. Name: Kiari Makal House: Ravenclaw Potions Homework #3: Write about the Dangers of Alcohol Alcohol is an extremely dangerous substance when consumed in large amounts. It can result in hangovers and vomiting, as well as death. It can make you more aggressive and destructive. Alcohol is a posion, but it is diluted with water and for example, grapes, to make wine. When people are drunk, they often lack common sense and don't really know what they are doing, and cannot think clearly as their thoughts are blurred and slowed down due to the alcohol, there words also become slurred and people tend to talk, or rather shout, loudly which is quite rude in a public place. This can be particularly dangerous to those in possession of a wand when drunk, as they may cast a spell/curse/charm without meaning to on a victim. One of the worst cases would be that someone would be so drunk that they used an Unforgivable Curse on another witch/wizard. This could result in a life sentance in Azkaban Prison. Many people turn to alcohol to give them a sort of 'boost', or 'buzz', and generally make them feel good when they have been feeling down lately. Although alchohol may put you in a good mood for a few hours, I do not think that it would be worth the hangover that follows. Severe alcohol abuse can result in comas, cancer and death. It can also cause kidney and liver damage if you drink often and in large amounts. Excessive drinking is dangerous for pregnant women as it can affect the growth of the unborn baby, resulting in a possibility of brain damage or deformities when it is born. If you fall asleep drunk, and then vomit, you could also choke on your own vomit and die. The majority of Muggles are particularly careless with alcohol, especially when driving vehicles known as cars. If you are in your early teens or younger, your body isn't fully grown and alchohol will affect you more quickly than an adult. If you are drunk, you are a danger to yourself and others. Remember if you want to drink alchohol, only drink it in suitable amounts so that you won't get too drunk. |

| Lena Bean 1st Year Hufflepuff Lena Bean looks around the room in amazement. She's surprised by the condition of the professor but understands that it's a good way to demonstrate the dangers of alcohol. She notices that everyone is beginning to clean up so she decides to grab a mop. There are many dangers of alcohol. Alcohol can make a person very vulnerable. They don’t know what they’re doing, their words are slurred, and they can’t think clearly. Alcohol can impair your memory, someone’s ability to walk straight, operate a broom, anything mechanical, or operational. People do or say things that they normally don’t. They can even hurt themselves or others. Sometimes, you don’t even remember what happened, what you did, or where you are the next day because you drank too much alcohol. People end up feeling dizzy, have a headache, and/or getting sick |

| Gretchen McGranger Gryffindor 1st year Potions #3 Respiratory failure, coma and death can result from too much alcohol consumed too quickly. Because alcohol reduces coordination and impairs judgment, accidents are more likely. This is particularly true when someone drinks and drives. Alcohol also loosens inhibitions, so that a drinker may become more aggressive and destructive. Weight loss and malnutrition can occur from long-term alcohol use. Alcoholics tend to neglect a balanced diet, so vitamin-B deficiencies, which cause nerve damage, heart damage, poor memory and fatigue, are especially likely. Alcohol often cancels a man's ability to have and maintain an erection. Delirium Tremens occurs during withdrawal from alcohol. It involves seizures, anxiety attacks, sweating, confusion, sleeplessness, profound depression and hallucinations. It can last up to 10 days and may be fatal if the person is not under the care of a physician. Alcohol can increase your risk of developing certain types of cancer, especially in the throat and esophagus. If you do have a drinking problem, keep in mind that alcoholism is an illness that can be treated. Recognize the signs of problem drinking and get help. |

| Amanda Moonshine Ravenclaw House Potions Module #3 Alcohol is a nervous system depressant, which can affect virtually every organ in the body, since it goes directly into the bloodstream. It lowers inhibitions and impairs judgment, leading to unsafe behaviors, and eventually even death. Alcohol has many side effects including changing your perceptions, dulling your senses, hindering coordination, and blocking memory functions. If you continue to use alcohol heavily, you could experience stomach ailments, heart and central nervous system damage, loss of appetite, and blackouts. When alcohol accumulates in your bloodstream, you will lose control of yourself, you will slow down and will create a false confidence that you are not aware that you are losing control even when you are. Alcohol could even lead to the loss of your job or committing or being the victim of an act of violence. It interacts negatively with more than 150 medications, so check with your doctor or pharmacist prior to drinking any amount of alcohol, if you are taking any over the counter or prescription medication. |

Drunkeness, Alcoholism..Its very discuting ...It makes you sick and impares your judgement. the effects could be poisning, lead by thining blood, irratibility, lazyness, vomitting, yelling, being stupid, abuse. Most girls would lose their virginity from being drunk and wake up and have to raise a baby. Some students feel that they are safe when they are drunk and feel that they can still do normal activites which can cause death if your not alert. |

| Alena had a bubble-head charm put on her head, so that she would not pass out or vomit because of the smell of liquor. "Purgarus." she commanded and the wastepaper basket was cleaned. She continued to use the charm to clean the whole classroom. Name:Alena_Weasley House: Gryffindor Assignment: Potions 3 Alcohol is a very strong potion, usually found in butterbeer, but only in small amounts. Some (weird) people evn get addicted to Alcohol, whereupon they are called alcoholics. For a first-time drinker, even a small amount of pure alcohol, can make you vomit, feel dizzy and pass out. For a regular drinker though, a nornal cup is able to turn the drinker drunk. He will slur his words, and will stagger when he wants to walk. His judgement will be impaired. His eyesight will be fuzzy, and sometimes, he sees double. Alcoholics usually have family problem, which may lead to a divorce, or worse : family violence. Alcohol damages the kidney and liver. Worse, if you have been a live-long drinker, you will die sooner that expected, and in a terrible death: First you started to feel weak, then your skin turns green. Your kidneys and liver have shriveled up into something like leather. And then, after a few months.... you die. At this stage, even a transplant is no use. |

The Dangers of Drinking You awaken in the morning from the night before with a serious headache and a bad case of draggon breath. "That must have been some party last night" you think as you try to focus on the alarm clock by your bed. Just then, beside you, you notice what appears to be the sound of someone breathing. Not knowing what to expect, you roll over to find a lump in the sheets beside you. You decide not to wait until later to find out... go here to see who the lucky lady/guy is. http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/trubgod/images/coyote.jpg A Death in the Family Every Time She Stopped, She Would Go Back Laura and Barry were regular visitors to the chat room here at the About.com Alcoholism site for several months during the first year it was opened. A few months ago, Barry posted a message on the bulletin board with an update, but I had not heard from either of them again until this week when I received the email message published below. Buddy, A while back I came to your chat rooms. My girl friend Laura was an alcoholic. She had tried to stop on several occasions. She was able to remain sober sometimes for months at a time. Every time she stopped after a month or so she would go back. I know you understand. On top of her alcohol problem she had Hepatitis C. That and drinking is not a wise choice. Hepatitis C and the drinking cases major problems. For the past five months Laura remained sober. She realized that drinking was going to kill her. She was in counseling and was doing great. Laura had liver problems and was waiting to get a liver transplant. We were going to NYU to get on the list. Everything was going great. All tests came back good. Too Late On september 27, 1999 Laura passed away due to cirrhosis and hepatitis C. She went into the hospital and within a week was dead. The day I brought her in she was doing dishes that afternoon. She wasn't feeling great so I took her in later that night. A week after she died I got the phone call that said that Laura was going to be put on the transplant list. It was a week too late. Buddy, feel free to post this anywhere on your site. Laura never believed that she could die. Maybe if someone reads this and realizes that alcohol kills then maybe this note can save a life. You Will Die! This is to everyone that still drinks: I realize that at this point in your life for whatever your reasons you have made the choice to drink. If you drink you will sooner or later have medical problems. It may be a fatty liver or cirrhosis or a host of other things. If you drink and have Hepatitis C you will DIE!!!! Laura left behind 4 children, they range in age from 4 1/2 - 15. I don't drink so I can see what it does to a family. If you drink you are effecting yourself as well as your family. TRUST ME ON THAT ONE! Barry that was a short story on The Dangers of Alcohol 1. As for # 1 clean up the lab and classroom. Screw that! DO IT YOUR DANM SELF!! I aint cleanin up your mess thats just nasty!! ::Myztick gets up lays her hmwk on Snapes desk and walks out.:: |

| Taryn O'Conner Ravenclaw Potions assignment #3 Alcohol is a very dangerous substance. It is one thing to enjoy a drink on special occassions but it is another to drink daily. It affects millions of people today and many young teenagers feel it is a cool thing to go to parties and binge (drinking 4 for women and 5 for guys at one time). Many of those who drink excessively do not know the terrible consequences. I just recently lost a close family friend due to alcohol. He drank almost every single day and if he didn't have any liquor in the house, he would go beserk. Alcohol does not only damage your liver, it can also impair judgement. From his excessive drinking, he picked up Hepititis C along the way. He also had Gangreen in his stomach when he died. From him drinking as much as he did, his kidneys and liver failed causing his death in the end. He was sustained for some time and was able to live for a couple of weeks. He then had a seizure and his brain completely shut down. He was still living but he would be totally functionless. Hearing about all these things taught me one simple thing, drink responsibly. There are many things in this world that can kill you, smoking, pollution, drugs, sex, and much more. If you really take a good look, anything could kill you. Then again, most of these things people are not aware of. Drinking is not in that category. You know what you are doing when you pop open a bottle of Cognac and you know that it contains at least 2% more alcohol in it than a regular beer. Drinking is something that can not only hurt you, but those you love and innocents. You could be so dead drunk that you are not aware of anything. Do not have any sense left in you. You jump in your car, ready to drive home and crash on the couch. As you start the engine, you don't give a thought about you not being in a fit state to drive. You back out of the driveway and start to speed down the highway. All of a sudden, you see a reddish blur but cannot make out if it's a stop light or not. You then fell a large jolt and your head smashes into the steering wheel before the airbag pops out. You don't know what you hit, you don't know where you are, you don't even know if you're still alive. You do know one thing though, you had a great time at that party, they had the best booze money could buy. As you slip into unconsciousness, you chuckle to yourself and hope there will be another one next week. When you wake up in the hospital the next morning, the doctor comes in with two police men. They tell you that you'll be just fine, but that you just killed a family of five last night on their way home from celebrating their nine year old's birthday. If you weren't sitting down, your knees would have gave out and you would have collapsed to the floor. The police men tell you that you will be tried for drinking under the influence of alcohol and that's where the story ends. Many peoples' lives are lost because of one stupid person who decides to drive home drunk. If you go to a party and you know that there will be alcohol and you will likely be drinking, don't drive yourself. Take a bus, a cab, have someone drop you off, so at least you know, you will not put anyone's life on the line. Those are the affects of drinking. Many abuse cases are due to drunks. Such as sexual abuse and spouse or child. There are some people who are happy drunks but most are mean and cruel. Nothing good ever comes from drinking except for maybe a nice time while you're entertaining friends at the local pub. If you do drink, remember when to stop. |

| Okay...first of all, Alcohol is a drug, not a potion!! It's only power is to make one look, smell and act as if they've just come home from some drunken barn dance (as the highly esteemed Professor has just demonstrated). Second of all, most students at Hogwarts are not old enough to even buy alcohol and I only came back to this class to do homework after removing Shelley from your stinky display of ickyness. So, that said, I hope the next class involves potions!! Thank you...Mother Beachdweller PS...I only used a Souring Charm to help the students clean up your icky, pukey mess. I'm only glad I managed to get Shelley out of the class before you urinated in a student's cauldron PSS...I'm still waiting to be awarded points for the two-hours' effort Shelley and I put into our Polyjuice Potion assignment. We worked very hard on it and don't appreciate being swept under the carpet... |

| Alcohol is a powerful potion however may be useful if used in MODERATION. There is actually a wine diet that is suppose to be very healthy. However, if not used in moderation that is in large quantities it may be dangerous to one. First of all, the cells in your brains that are not letting any other substances to come through dont work for alcohol, so it enters the brain and infuences one by slowing down reaction speed. ( Don't drink and Drive By the way, Professor, where was the party? *gets slapped* Joking = don't drink and fly= |

| Nicholas Parker Ravenclaw Potions Class #3 Alcohol Nicholas look around the classroom. How was he going to help clean it? He realized that he could finally use the Scouring charm. He chose a small corner and cleaned it up. "Purgarus!" After the room was clean, He wrote about the dangers of alcohol. "Alcohol is a very dangerous potion. For one thing, it makes your senses fuzzy and makes you take bad decisions because your can't judge a situation well. This greatly affects your flying ability. If you are drunk, you can crash on a broom in any circumstance. Also, alcohol can damage your brain and your liver. Alcohol is considered a poison by your body and your liver eliminates poisons. If you drink a lot of alcohol, your liver works harder and can get damaged in the long run. Finally, alcohol is addictive, and so if you get addicted, it is hard to stop using it." Nicholas placed the sheet on Professor Snape's desk and went to his next class. |

| Ashlyn Alexander Gryffindor Ashlyn got out a quill and wrote down the homework, then looked around at the other students. Many were leaving the classroom. 'This is crap,' she thought, 'Just because they know someone will make sure the room is clean, they leave. UHH!' With that she got up and joined the others who were cleaning. Several hours later, many sore students exited the potions room. Dangers of Alcohol The most dangerous aspects of Alcohol is its affect on a person's senses. Alcohol impares judgement, speech, and cordination, and slows reation time. If a majic person's judgement was imparred there would be a greater chance for them to walk into danger unknowingly. With slow reaction time and attacker would have an advantage being able to curse the person before they could get their wand out and a spell cast. Unslurred speech is essential to a magical person. Words are always used to execute a spell. With cordination impared someone could accidently cast a spell on the wrong thing or person. |

| Annie Rane looked down at the drunken professor in wonder. Now there was a sight to behold. Professor Snape, always so in control... Mm. Maybe alcohol was not such a good idea. She turned around, slightly wobbly herself from the strong smell of alcohol, and added to that thought: especially if you are the one to have to do the cleaning up. She was definitely not going to be the one to clean up that vomit. No way. The culprits could do that themselves. The classroom, however, was in complete disarray. Students had dropped their books and quills all over the place. She bended down to pick up a book that had fallen near the professor's head - a student's book, not the professor's. As she closed her hand on it, she got hit once more by the strong smell of alcohol - and vomit - and reeled. Well, she thought hazily, trying to gather her wits about her again, one thing she could write in her essay on alcohol was that it gave you bad breath. Eurgh. Name: Rane Annie House: Ravenclaw Year: First Date: May 22nd, 2003 Alcohol is a potent potion and exerts many effects on the human body. Its first effects are usually physical and include a lowering of the reaction time of the person drinking (which could proove tricky in e.g. a duel) and inprecision in that person's moves (which makes Apparating and riding a broom dangerous). If more alcohol is consumed, effects on one's thinking start to show. Not only is the thinking slowed (very annoying if your Potions master decides to spring a surprise test on you), but one's judgement also becomes impaired (it becomes, for example, hard to tell if someone is trustworthy). Next to clouding your assessment of other people or situations, alcohol also takes away your own inhibitions (no, dancing on the table in a tutu is not charming (unless you are five years old), nor is riding your broom like a madman). In short, it is wise to be very cautious when using alcohol. |

Oh well, at least Trelawney has made a 3rd GOOD prediction…or should I say, her crystal ball did it? Hehe”. The girl watched as the others began to clean up the mess with brooms…”Perfect time for Scouring Charm”, she decided and noticed that Sariss has had the same idea. “Well, great minds think alike”. “I really don’t know why people drink alcohol” , Madi questioned herself while waving her wand in various directions and trying to *erase* as many spots as possible. “I haven’t drink anything which has alcohol in it, in my whole life; and I’m not bragging here. It’s just that I don’t like the TASTE…But that’s why I try not to judge the others (if they don’t cross a certain line)…Maybe if I liked the taste I would be in a sanatorium right now, trying to give up alcohol. Who knows? It was easy to become a choco-holic…” After ten minutes of *shouting* “Purgarus!”, Madi decided it’s time to start writing the essay. She took out her parchment and quills, sat down at a (now much cleaner) desk and started scribbling…

Eurrgg.. I can't undertnad why people actually liked alcohol.... she thought, grimacing. Florianna Blake Gryffindor 1rst year Alcohol has alot of effect on the human body. Although for some people it might help them get over their own fears and be less shy around people, the fact is that alcohol has more negative side-effects. Alcohol damages the human body after drinking it for a long time, just like tobacco. Alcohol affets the brain and causes it to become confused. Because of it, the entire perception of reality is affected. That is why it is so dangerous to leave a drunk person unattended. Too much alcohol can bring someone in a coma and even dath should the level of alcohol to high in the drinker's blood. Many deaths were recorded in the muggle world due to alcholol, whether it was the drinker's death or a victim's death. |

DANGERS OF ALCOHOL The dangers of alcohol are very harmful indeed. First you could end up doing something you regret or something that you won'y live to regret. You could easily crash your broom in to a tree and die, if you are apparating, you could easliy splinch yourself. Not to mention the killer hangover that is always garenteed when you wake up. Then there is the fact that you could die of alcohol poisoning and that is dangerous because it is the worst way to go, die by a bottle in a bar or at a party or at your house. The dangers greatly outweigh the perks therefore you should do it before your old enough or before you know how much you can intake and stay sober. |
