Virtual Hogwarts .net > The Lakefront > Do Lizards Swim?

Seb made his way down to the lakefront up from the Slytherin Common Room. He had Tua in one pocket, and Tara in another and his cloak pulled tightly around him. The winter was quickly setting in and Seb had a feeling the snow would be joining them at school shortly. He sniffled as he reached his destination. Shoulda brought a hanky.. Seb mused as he looked out over the lake. The Squid must be resting or feeding, as he saw no sign of it on the surface. Placing his hands in his pockets, he brought Tua and Tara out, his pet lizards. Tua was already squirming from memories from the past. “Right then, Tara,” Seb grinned teasingly down at his new tuatara. “This is the lakefront. Your friend here is afraid of the water.” He nodded towards Tua, “And all I wanted to know is can you swim. So. Can you?” The wind blew through his hair as he turned the female lizard towards the lake. “Want a swim? Lizards are cold blooded right? So the water won’t feel bad for you.” Seb mused that he must look weird talking to his pets, like they could answer him or something, but he didn’t really care. He loved his pets, and that was all that mattered.

Sariss left the castle and went towards the lakefront. She was still a bit flushed from duelling only a few minutes earlier. There was a piece of homework waiting for her, but she did not want to do it now. It was Divination, and Sariss had a really hard time with it, being a very sceptical person by nature. So instead of being a good little student, she had gone looking for Seb, wondering where he might be now that lessons were over. The two of them attended different Divination classes, which was the reason why Seb had finished his lesson before her that day. Some people in the Slytherin Common Room had told her that they'd seen him, his two pets in his pockets and wearing a warm cloak. So he should be outside. When Sariss had stepped outside, a rather cold gust of wind had greeted her and reminded her that she did not yet have winter boots. She'd ordered them at Gladrags the previous day and hoped that they would be delivered to her soon. She drew her Slytherin scarf tighter around her and was very thankful to have thought of bringing her gloves along too. There was Seb! He was at the lakefront. With his two lizards. Sariss had a déjà vu. It had been just like that last year when Seb had bought Tua. A smile spread over her face when she saw Seb there. As she approached him, she heard him whispering to his pets. "Hello, you," Sariss grinned at him and stood on tiptoes to kiss him, careful not to crush the lizards that he held in his hands before himself. That was the primary reason why she had to stand on tiptoes. Seb thankfully wasn't much taller than she was. Then she patted both lizards on their little heads. The blinked lazily. Sariss could swear that Tua-- Or is it Tara? How can he tell them apart? All those differences that he sees... I don't see them... Well, one of the lizards seemed to be somewhat uncomfortable here on the lakeshore.

"Hello, you," Came the voice of Sariss. She stood up her tiptoes and gave him a hello kiss before he could greet her back or even warn her that… “I have a cold… You shouldn’t kiss me.” For effect, Seb gave a little sniffle and a shudder. “I don’t want to make you ill.” He brought Tara up to show Sariss. “I was just showing her the Lakefront. I never did find out if they can swim. Tua is deadly afraid of the water. I’ve no idea why!” Seb tried to look innocent and placed the frightened Tua back in his warm pockets, leaving out only Tara. With his free hand Seb placed some of his hair behind his ear. The wind was being a pain blowing his hair in his eyes. It was settled. Tomorrow he would get that hair trim he promised himself. Might even get it all chopped off… Shock everyone. “How was Divinations? We had our exam. I’m almost certain I passed it with flying colours. I guess we’ll find out the results shortly.” Clearing his throat a few times, he placed Tara back in his other pocket and brought up a hand to his throat. To lose his voice would be devastation. How could one duel with no voice? Would mouthing the spell work? He doubted it. Sariss looked quite warm in her thick cloak, scarf and gloves. Very.. snugly. he thought for lack of a better word. His bed was warm and snugly too, and looked more appealing each time the wind blew, stronger each time. Seb looked up at the sky for a second or two. He could almost smell the snow approaching.

"Oh, I'm not afraid of a cold," Sariss smiled. "I'll just go to Madam Pomfrey, grab a Pepper-Up Potion and be fine again--although the steam that would come out of my ears would look quite alarming in a duel or so." She couldn't suppress a giggle. But there was more to answer to. "Well... I'm not sure how I did in Divination. You know how I'm very sceptical to those methods that we used," she said. "Some of them didn't quite fit in with the things that I read in the books, so I might have been overly critical. Oak will mostly certainly think that I'm a hopeless... well... for lack of a more fitting word... smart-arse." Rolling her eyes at herself, she took off her scarf and wrapped it around Seb's neck. "There. No wonder you're feeling ill." She gave a small smile. "That should keep you warm." She placed another kiss on his mouth. Might as well use the advantages of living in a magical community. You didn't have to be frightened of nasty colds that took Muggles ages to recover from. You just gulped down a single goblet of Pepper-Up Potion, steamed merrily for a while and then you'd be fine again. "Shall we go back inside then?" she asked, looking up at Seb.

Seb took off the scarf and handed it back to Sariss. “Well I refuse to get a potion. It’s just a cold. It’ll be gone in a day or five. And you keep this,” He told her, placing the scarf back around her. “I’m already cold, I won’t warm up now, where as you are warm so keep it on. Let’s not give you more reason to be ill. With a potion to keep it away or not.” The cold ridden Slytherin rubbed his hands together. “Might as well go back inside that dull place. It’s a tad warmer. I shouldn’t have come outside anyway; I’ll scare away the snow clouds.” Snow. That thought would’ve cheered him up if it wasn’t for the fact that snow meant Christmas, and Christmas meant another usually joyful season he didn’t spend with his family around a warm fire, a Christmas trees, the morning you get up and open presents while your mother smiles down happily to you… and other festive things families did. Ok. He had just upset himself. Seb licked his lips and rubbed his eyes, hoping Sariss thought the glistening was just from the wind in his face. “C’mon then,” Seb almost croaked and gave a little cough to clear his throat, “Lets get out of the cold, into the cold dungeons.”

Seb rubbed his eyes. Oy, he must be feeling really bad already. Probably feverish too... Sariss thought, making a note to self that she would get him something useful for Christmas... like a... yes... that would be his present. “C’mon then,” Seb sort of croaked and cleared his throat, “Lets get out of the cold, into the cold dungeons.” "Yes, through the cold corridors into a Common Room that's warmed by a big fire," Sariss said dreamily. "And I'll make sure that you sit there to warm yourself up." She linked her arm with Seb's, and together they went back inside the castle.
