| For Third Place - Tier One For Third Place - Tier One Kalina couldn’t believe that the end was finally drawing near. Another Tournament nearly completed. All that needed to be done was to determine the 3rd Place position for the Upper Tier. Kalina glanced around noting that all was ready. Platform freshly cleaned. Thank Merlin for the wonderful House Elves they had here at Hogwarts. They absolutely beamed every time Kalina approached them with a request for the Dueling Club. Once again the room was beginning to fill with spectators. Kalina was really happy to note so many Hufflepuffs were here, along with an almost equal amount of Slytherins. Plus a smattering of others. All here to support the next two duelers, Dusky Pidlerson and Sariss Ravon. Thinking of them seemed to have conjured them up...for here they were, walking through the entrance. Kalina met them half way with a huge smile. Dusky was her roommate after all and she was extremely proud of her friend to have made it so far in the Tournament. Sariss was an older girl, true but one Kalina was getting to know a bit and she had to confess she admired her a lot. She was a Slytherin Prefect and a divine dueler, something Kalina knew from experience having dueled with her several times. Lucky for Kalina she was merciful to ickles like herself. “Hello” she said greeting them warmly. “Your platform is all set to go and your Officiator will be here any minute now” she told them as the indicated the platform straight ahead. “Good luck to you both” she wished them sincerely as hugged Dusky, then Sariss. She watched with a tinge of sadness though as the walked off to take there places upon the platform. This was it. This was the last duel of the Tournament. She should be happy, glad to get some free time back but she had to admit she was sad to see it all end. No, she should be glad...she was just being silly and sentimental she concluded as she found a seat up front to watch. | Sariss burst into the Duelling Chamber. She was late, wasn’t she? Oh no, she wasn’t! How good that she had hurried! She found that she was just on time—to face little Dusky with whom she had fought many an unforgettable battle in the chamber already. But it had been a dreadfully long time since their last duel! Since they had sung together. Bloody Karaoke Liquorice… Its effects were horrible—it forced you to sing!—but it was so delicious that you couldn’t resist it. If Sariss had a piece of it with her, she’d probably be happily chewing on it right now—and choke as soon as the first spell would hit her. “Hello!” she greeted Kalina and grinned at Dusky. “Badgers eat snakes, eh?” she said and lifted the hem of her robe to reveal… One badger slipper and one snake slipper. Sariss giggled madly. Who said that they couldn’t have fun? It was a duel for third place, important, yes… But it would be the last duel in the tournament for either of them, so… why not wear one slipper for her own house and one of her opponent’s? “What do you think? Slytherpuff slippers!” Sariss soon scuttled up the stairs onto the platform and waited. Oy… this duel would be exciting. She wondered which one of them would end up spitting up slugs. The Slytherin knew that Dusky was rather famous for her skill with that hex… |

Dusky smiled feebly at Sariss Ravon. "Yeah...badgers eat snakes..." she said softly. Blimey, she really had to keep her chin up. But...first Dawn McNaught, and now SARISS? Of all the rotten luck. Laughing more at her luck than the situation, she chuckled and smiled appreciately at Sariss's slippers. "They're very cute," she said. "I quite like the snake ones...they're...well, they have nice tongues. Do excuse me..." She turned and walked to the edge of the platform, hanging her head over her chest and breathing. In. Out. In. Out. You can get past this. You don't even care about winning, remember? She chewed her lip and then turned back, pushing her hair away from her face and smiling a dimpled smile at Sariss. "Okay guys, I'm ready." As I'll ever be.

"Glad to hear it," said Zacharias arriving any minute later. "You have both done well to get this far and I wish you luck in this duel. You may begin."

“Incum--!” Sariss began to chant immediately. It was a reflex. The spell that would make it a little bit easier for her should Dusky cast the slug hex on her. It was a risk that the Hufflepuff seemed to take rather often—and succeed too! So that was why Sariss had to watch out and be as careful as possible with her strategy. No matter what, it would be. But she froze before she had even finished the incantation. Perhaps she should settle for a different strategy here? Perhaps there was another way? Yes… Maybe she should... Hurry! “Aspergo!” the Slytherin called out and sent a jet of water towards the poor Hufflepuff, wondering if she’d get soaked, manage to jump out of the way or block it. In any case, Dusky’s slug hex and some good strategy would determine the outcome of this duel. Sariss was not one to underestimate someone who had managed to beat Jasmine Snow. 114 – 7 (LV3 Shower Charm) = 107

Dusky sat down on the ground while the officiator approached - she felt more than a little queasy. I have to do this, don't I. Oh that's right. I'm ready. And now that the officiator was finally there, that meant that Sariss would be... "Ob...Taetra!" She shouted, sending a spark into the air to clash with the water and sizzle out. She was incredibly tempted to shoot out another shocking hex...she loved the spell...it was pretty, and reliable. But unfortunately, as she knew well - it would not give her any hope. But then... "Oh what the heck," she squealed. "Taetra!" 116 - 15 (LV2 Shocking Hex) - 15 (LV2 Shocking Hex) = 86 Hits: 0

Oy... Sariss had completely forgotten that Dusky knew that spell! No wonder! They hadn't been duelling with each other in ages. Well, understandably, Sariss was not only surprised but also a little disappointed at herself. In fact, she was so disappointed that she barely registered that the chamber had an echo... and that that echo wasn't an echo, but that it was Dusky repeating the incantation. Why would Dusky repeat an incantation? Sariss wondered, clearly experiencing one of her incredibly daft moments. Uh-oh... "Eeep!" She ducked quickly, feeling the electricity brush over her head. Her hair was crackling with static energy, and some of the shorter hairs were probably standing on end. Not like Sariss could see it. She shuffled her be-slippered feet. "Whoops..." she said and blushed. "Expelliarmus!" That was probably the best that she could do at this point. 107 – 0 (hit) – 25 (LV2 Disarming Spell) = 82 1 hit

"Why do you want my wand, Sariss!" Dusky squealed, flinching backwards. "Obsidio!" She stood there, confused. That wasn't...it just wasn't nice. The feeling grew in her stomach, and Dusky was half praying now for a slug hex to come shooting her way so that she could vomit and get it all out. Unfortunately, as she well knew. It was her that had the slug hex. "Okay," she whispered. "Take two....TAETRA!" 86 - 25 (LV1 Blocking Charm) - 15 (LV2 Shocking Hex) = 46 Hits: 0 * Level 2 disarm? Nofe air.

This time Sariss was prepared for the spell. In fact, by now she thought she could tell Dusky's strategy that had previously been absolutely in the dark for her. It was always easier to predict what your opponent would be doing when it was in the middle of the duel. The first spell could give hints, the second one gave something that almost resembled evidence. Seeing as Sariss was ready for whatever was coming to her, she got ready to jump to the side. And there it came and whizzed past her, zig-zagging wildly. But past her. Which was good. "Expelliarmus!" Oh Sariss knew that she was being very mean, but it wasn't like she had never done this before... and even though she really liked the Hufflepuff, there was no way that she'd lose a duel that she could win with the proper strategy. So she did what the proper strategy demanded. 82 – 0 (hit) – 25 (LV2 Disarming Spell) = 57 2 hits

"I get the point," Dusky snapped, the combination of queasiness and attempted plundering of her wand beginning to really rub her up the wrong way. "Obsidio!" Then the little Hufflepuff was left to steam. The Slytherin would take her wand next turn...what a snake. "Lift your robes again, Sariss," She grinned...though not quite as twinkly in the eye as usual. "Badgers eat Snakes...yes...good defence, those slippers. But use them as a reminder. The next time you meet me," She smiled...and now the glint WAS there in her eye. No matter how much she liked Sariss - she would remember this humiliation. "Taetra." Soon, she could go and finally be sick. And hey...at least she didn't have to jump around playing hopscotch with some spell like a coward. She smiled properly at Sariss and let out a giggle. Slytherins weren't exactly known for their bravery, after all. 46 - 25 (LV1 Blocking Charm) - 15 (LV2 Shocking Hex) = 6 Hits: 0

"Obsidio! Three times a charm? I don't think so!" Sariss said and finally blocked that spell. "Oh I certainly hope that there will be a next time. I won't make the same mistake twice. Expelliarmus!" This was probably the final spell of the duel and Sariss reached out to catch Dusky's wand. Eventually, she got to shake hands with the Hufflepuff. "Geez, Dusky, I didn't think I'd be seeing you in this duel at all! How on earth did you defeat Jasmine? You have to tell me all about it! I could kick myself for not being able to watch your duel, you know? I had one of my own scheduled at that time. How about a butterbeer in the three broomsticks?" 57 - 30 (LV2 Blocking Charm) - 25 (LV2 Disarming Spell) = 2 2 hit

"Unfortunately," Dusky blurted out, watching her wand spin out of her hand. "I've...got somewhere to be." Her face quickly turning green, she turned tail, hoisting up her robes and ran out of the duelling chamber...well, technically over to the supplies cupboard, where she pulled out a bucket and promptly threw up into it. Well at least SOMEBODY would be puking this duel. Sariss wins! Yay Sariss!

Zacharias blinked in surprise as the Hufflepuff ran off. "Third place is yours Miss Ravon," he said, "well done."
