| Semi-Finals - Tier One - Game 13 Kalina had made a trip up to the Owerly, the only reason why she seemed to leave this Chamber these days. The jog up and down all those flights of stairs had left her breathless and in need of sustenance. Lucky for her and the Officiators the House Elves kept the Refreshment Table well stocked. She’d have to make it a point to visit them in the Kitchens to tell them how much she appreciated their help and all the good food. Upon returning to the Chamber Kalina ran by the table and swiped a handful of cookies. In the meantime she would wait by the entrance. She was about to take a nibble when she saw them walk through the door. “Oh, you’re here!” she said with a little chagrin as she quickly put her cookies into her pocket. Hiding her disappointment from missing her snack she greeted them brightly “Hello Sariss...Hello Raul. Congratulations on making it to the Semi-Finals” she said to them with a warm smile. “Come on, I’ll take you to your platform” she offered before she turned away to lead them across the room. “Here you go” she said when she turned to face them at their Platform. “Good Luck to both of you.” And on impulse she gave them both a hug before she ran off to find their Officiator. | Sariss scuttled into the chamber where the tournament would be continuing. By now they were down to two platforms for each group of duellers. Dawn and Dusky were facing each other in Sariss's group. She waved to them as she walked into the room. Her hand was a little bit shaky from the adrenaline rush again. And she was a bit... scared. Her opponent had defeated Monica! The great Monica! Defeated by a first-year! Nothing would stop this one from walking over Sariss too. Well, at least it was a Slytherin, Sariss tried to motivate herself. At least he had bashed Monica too. And Jasmine had been defeated in the last round too. So... nobody could say that Sariss hadn't done her best, right? Right. "Hello, Kalina... Hi, Raul," Sariss gulped softly as she looked at the boy. He didn't look very threatening actually. He hadn't looked very threatening in Slytherin House either... or on the Quidditch pitch... but she'd not let those pinchable cheeks fool her. He may be a little boy... but still... To have defeated Monica, he'd have to have guts... and skill. A lot of skill. Sariss would have to be cautious. She stepped onto the platform and awaited the signal to begin. |

((Sorry for the delay, my comp is dieing yet again. *kicks it*)) Raul hurried to the dueling chamber for yet another uphill battle. The upper bracket for the tournament was not the place for an inexperienced dueler as himself. He was too likely to let himself get hit just to see what a spell does and that had almost cost him the last duel. In fact he was still amazed that he had slipped by Monica (and half wished he hadn't). Sariss was probably the last person he wanted to duel if it meant something. At least this time he hadn't promised to not use his Coward Charm. He was the last one to arrive for this duel and was greeted at the door. "Hi Kalina, thanks. Hi Sariss." With a sigh the young Slytherin flollowed the other to the platform and tried to relax as he stepped up and pulled his wand. It would be tough enough without letting himself get too nervous before he even started. He akwardly returned Kalina's hug and mumbles a thanks before turning to face Sariss. As much as he wanted to just throw in the towel, he wouldn't let himself go out like that. ((meep))

"Get your duel on!" Devante said not wasting any time with formalities. These two knew what to do, granted they were this far werent they?

Oh boy... Now the duel was on. And Sariss didn’t think that her chances were all that high. The boy looked so deceptively harmless… yes, it seemed almost as though he was a little scared. But Sariss knew better. He was just underestimating himself and keeping Sariss’s experience in mind. The fact that Sariss wasn’t allowed to use her most successful spells in this duel… Well… That was what could be her doom. But there was nothing to be done about that now. “Incumbo!” Sariss chanted and pointed her wand at herself. She had no idea what she was doing. This, however, gave her a sense of security. So it couldn’t be such a bad idea, right? 114 – 25 (LV2 Concentration Charm) = 89

Raul looked around nervously as the officiator approached the platform. The importance of the match hit him as he realized this was the most important duel of his young career so the boy decided that it was as good a time as any to start trying to act more formally at the start of duels. Awkward bows were directed at both Mr. Santiago and Sariss and the young Slytherin hoped that he would be able to improve with practice unlike his futile attempts at wand twirling. However, he had taken to long and missed out on getting first blood and all he could do was quickly bring his wand up to block. “Obsid…oh. Oops.” The spell was familiar to him and was even highly placed on his list of ones he intended to learn since it was so powerful. One of the spells at his disposal was a nice counter to it though, as he had learned in a duel with Lian. For a moment he was torn between using that one or the one he had intended to use as his first attack. The choice was made even more difficult since he knew how much Sariss didn’t like the spell that would negate what she had just done. It didn’t take long to decide that he couldn’t let such an experienced duelist have the edge she had just given herself though. “Terroris! Sorry Sariss.” He didn’t know what else to say, so he just waited to see what the prefect would do. 118 – 0 (nothing) – 13 (lv3 coward charm) = 105 hits/ dodges: 0

Sariss's heart was racing now that she had to wait for Raul to make his move. That little boy didn't know many spells, but the ones that he did know ranked very high on the list of most nasty spells with even nastier results. As if she had known it, he cast her most hated spell. The coward charm. Sariss hated this spell particularly much as it made her feel so helpless. Before she even knew it, she had already blurted out, "Obsidio!" and deflected it. She did most certainly not want to experience that one. Saris didn't have an idea if what she had just done had been the wisest thing to do, and considering the spells that the boy knew and the spells that Sariss wasn't allowed to cast in this duel... well... She had to keep grasping at straws--or big fat wooden logs. "Stipitis!" she chanted, conjured up a rather respectable-looking log and hurled it at the young Slytherin. 89 – 38 (LV2 Blocking Charm) – 0 (LV3 Camper’s Charm) = 51 0 hits

A small sigh escaped the boy’s lips as his spell was blocked, not that he wasn't expecting it to be. Raul had hoped, however, that Sariss wouldn't want to expend so much energy so early in their duel. This meant that he would need to follow up with another attempt at negating the Concentration Charm she had used even though he knew the prefect didn't like the Coward Charm at all. Sure enough she effortlessly cast a spell which sent a log hurtling at the, luckily, nimble lad. His dive to the side of the platform did little for his dignity but did save him from having a hefty chunk of log imprinted on his face. The Camper's Charm had always seemed to be one of the most dangerous allowed in the dueling chamber and some of the other elementals were right up there with it. Anyone watching the duel from a good vantage point could see that the boy had an apologetic look on his face as he prepared to cast his next spell. Across the chamber he heard someone proclaiming that they had beaten Jasmine Snow, of course that would be Dusky who had beaten her in the round before this one. Raul had no idea why she would be shouting it now but at least it served to remind him that at least he didn’t have to face the girl who had quite a reputation for being vicious. It seemed unlikely Sariss would get too mad about his spell choices but he could definitely picture Jasmine hunting Dusky down for some revenge, especially after it being shouted in the middle of a duel that was being watched by a lot of students. Not letting himself be distracted any further, Raul once again tried to undo his housemate’s advantage. “Terroris!” 105 – 0 (dodge) – 13 (lv3 coward charm) = 92 hits/ dodges: 1

Oh no, not that spell again! Sariss nervously shuffled her feet and brought up her wand to block it, but she was still so exhausted from the previous round that she was not fast enough. The spell washed over her. It was not a pleasant feeling really. Well, she didn’t allow herself to be all too much affected by this one now. She had to cast this next spell. Yes, indeed. And she’d cast it well too! “Glebula!” Sariss chanted, thoroughly disappointed that her sense of confidence was gone again. But she wasn’t as frightened as the spell made her fear that she would be. So it had at least had that advantage. Phew… Not too bad really. She felt she was her normal fidgety self. 51 – 0 (hit) – 14 (LV3 Snowball Jinx) + 20 (focus) – 20 (cower) = 37 1 hit

This would probably be one of the easiest spells to block that Sariss would use in their duel. There was no way Raul could pass up his chance to get off fairly easily. "Obsidio!" At least Sariss didn't seem to upset about getting hit with the Coward Charm which was good, because it was likely going to happen again. The spell was just too efficient for him not to use it again. Plus it wasn't like she would be doubly scared, was it? Times like this made Raul wish he had taken more time to experiment with his spells instead of just learning how to cast them well. "Terroris!" 92 – 40 (lv2 blocking charm) – 13 (lv3 coward charm) = 39 hits/ dodges: 1

Argh... Not another one of those! Sariss quickly jumped to the side. She didn't like the feeling that spells gave you when they were washing over you, not even when it had no more effects on you. "That was close... Phew..." she said with a look behind her, just to check if someone had been hit by the spell and was now cowering in fear. If that had been the case though, they'd probably have run already and hidden somewhere, so it was actually rather pointless. Well, Sariss wasn't having any illusions about the outcome of this duel. It had been rather clear to her after Raul had defeated Monica that this ickle was not to be messed with. "Expelliarmus!" the girl chanced. Not like it made a difference. At least that way Raul wouldn't get to disarm her. Otherwise, that might have happened. Barely... but possibly. Oh well... Sariss braced herself for the final stage of the duel. 37 - 0 (hit) - 25 (LV2 Disarming Spell) = 12 2 hits

Raul gave Sariss an apolegitic look as she commented on the near miss with that awful, awful spell. Raul liked it when he was on the casting end of it though since it had done an admirable job at helping the boy make it through some tough duels. Of course, when he was first learning it, it had cost him more than a few duels that should have been easy victories. Not victories in practice duels really mattered for anything. A small meep came from the boy as he heard the incantation for the spell he would be facing next. Sariss was a powerful dueler, so she must have a powerful disarming spell and Raul wasn't sure just how much energy it would take to keep his wand. It was possible he would be left quite weak and vulnerable to the prefect's elementals. "Obsidio!" It was draining, but much less so than he had expected, or perhaps he had more strength left than he had thought. It was hard to say since the duel was so emotionally draining, leaving his stomach in knots. One final time with the spell that had gotten him this far and the duel should be over with him somehow coming out on top. "Terroris!" 39 – 25 (lv2 blocking charm) – 13 (lv3 coward charm) = 1 hits/ dodges: 1 *edited to make sense *and to spell Sariss' name correctly after which I give up on reading this post*

Uh-oh... Sariss could tell that this was not good. Well, it wasn't like she had expected it to be any different, but nevertheless... With a leap to the side, she managed to dodge this one a little bit less clumsily than the last one, even though it did not matter anymore. It had just been the third spell that she couldn't block. Surely, an officiator would soon step in and announce her defeat. Sariss sighed but shrugged as she looked at Raul. At least he was a fellow Slytherin--and a bloody good dueller for an ickle, even though tournament circumstances helped him a lot. She'd have to look into that coward charm a little bit more closely next year. It seemed so weak a spell and yet... It had just defeated her. Sariss went to shake hands with Raul. "Bloody nasty spell that you have there!" she exclaimed. "But I almost got you." She grinned, realising that she wasn't muddy nor drenched nor zapped... Well, that duel had left her in a rather good shape. 12 - 0 (hit number 3) = The end
