| Round Two - Tier One - Game 9 Kalina stepped back from the board displaying the two Tourney Brackets. Round One was complete and in moments they would be starting Round Two. “Right then, let’s get the show on the road” she said softly as she spun around and headed for the entrance, where she would greet each dueler as they checked in for their duel. All the platforms were clean and ready. The Officiators all here and waiting – thinking of them her eyes searched the room for their location. She laughed as she noticed the Officiators gathered about the refreshment table again. Kalina approached and squeezed an arm between Mr. Santiago and Professor Trimble. She just managed to snag a cookie before they could protest loudly. With a giggle she bounced away and passed Professor Toothill on her way. “Hello Professor” she greeted him with a bright smile. “I believe we are ready to begin.” Sure enough two students entered the Chamber just then. “Oh, excuse me Sir” she said quickly as she slipped the cookie into her pocket and rushed off to greet them. Darn, she would have to save it for later. "Hello Jazz" Kalina sqeaked out excitedly as she gave her friend a quick hug. She smiled brightly as she saw the older, serene and composed Slytherin over Jazzie's shoulder. She recognized the older girl from the Dueling Chamber and last year's tournament. Kalina released her friend and stepped over to Sariss. Part of her wished to hug her in welcome as well but she didn't know how the older student would take that, so instead she extended her hand in warm greeting. "Hello Sariss" she said softly. "Let me show you which platform is yours, shall I?" Kalina turned and led the two opponents to their assigned platform. "Good luck to you both" she said with smile before she walked off. | Jazz entered the Club Chamber as nervous as a first time dueler. She had won her first duel against Cassie, barely. She was glad that duel was over. It was nerve wracking and she knew the only reason she had won was because Cassie hadn’t been able to use her stronger spells. Jazz slipped between the gathered crowds (crowds!) of onlookers, and found Kalina. She grinned as she rushed up and gave her a hug. What a relief to see a friendly face. She was about to ask where/who who opponent was for the next round, when Kalina looked over her shoulder and greeted....Sariss? Her opponent was Sariss? Jazz turned and smiled at the older girl. She hadn’t seen her for a while. Their last duel had been fun; it had been a short but friendly duel. “Hi, Sariss.” she said shyly. Kalina was marching off, heading towards a platform. Oh, gosh. She wasn’t ready for this! Sariss was so much more experienced than she was. She just hoped the duel wasn’t over in two or three moves, and that she had the opportunity to at least make a good showing before losing. Against Sariss, she wouldn’t mind losing. It would be great to win, but it was just fun to be a part of the tournament. She climbed up onto the platform, following Kalina, and fidgeted. She had her gloves on, and her wand out already. Oh, the heck with it. The little second year trotted over to Sariss and gave her a quick hug. “Good luck!” She then skipped back to her place. |

Sariss hurried to the Duelling Club. She had just received note that she was already being expected to show up in the next round of duels. Oh my! It was so soon already! And it was the duel against Jazz who was ranked highest in the club! The little Hufflepuff must have duelled her heart out to be ranked so high, and Sariss didn't know what to expect. Her big fat mean spells weren't allowed in this duel, so what would she do? The answer was simple: Strategy. But as simple as this answer was... its execution would not be just as easy. Sariss would have to try hard and must not get distracted by anything at all. The Slytherin gulped as she entered the Duelling Club. It was odd. Everyone else seemed to think that she was so powerful... and she herself always felt so scared and small when everyone expected her to win. She wasn't one who could easily deal with peer (and non-peer) pressure. "Hello..." Sariss said and tried to smile at Jazz and Kalina. One might have expected that seeing the faces of two people who she could almost consider friends (and if they were in the same house or year or even spent some more time together outside of the Duelling Chamber, it was likely that they'd be very close) would have calmed her nerves, but this was not so. Kalina hugged Jazz and held out a hand to Sariss. The Slytherin placed her cold hand (oh the nerves!) into Kalina's warmer one and gave a little squeeze. "Alright... Thanks... Good luck..." she stammered when appropriate. Oh dear oh dear... She had better get rid of that nervousness or she might as well ask Jazz for a shovel to start digging her duelling grave... Sariss nervously smiled at the officiator who would be starting the duel...

Devante eyed the two girls cautiously as he approached. He knew they were both very good duelers however Sariss had much in the way of experience and knowledge over the young Hufflepuff. He had a small smirk plastered on his face as the two girls took their positions and He raised his arm. "Well you two have done well so far, but only one of you can go on from here. I suspect both of you would be worthy of continuing on however that is not possible. You may BEGIN!" he said lowering his arm swiftly and prepared to watch one heck of a duel.

Alright. This was it. The duel was on. And now Sariss had to hurry. But in the state that she was in, how was she supposed to duel properly? No no… She’d have to do something about that. She needed to focus. Yes, that was it. All she needed to do was get herself to focus on the task at hand and then she could try and see if she saw a weakness of Jazz’s… and then maybe… yes, only then could she worry about what to do next. Good plan, Ravon, she thought. Now if only you were fast enough… “Incumbo!” the Slytherin blurted out quickly and felt the calming and soothing feeling of the charm wash over her. Instantly, she felt less nervous and more focused. A good feeling. This was not any different from a little exam now. 114 – 25 (LV2 Concentration Charm) = 89 0 hits

Jazz was so very nervous. She was surprised to see that Sariss looked a little nervous too. Nah. Not her. She must have been mistaken. “Um, nice to see you again, Sariss. Good luck, I mean, I hope we have a good duel.” Right. Mr. Santiago came to start the duel. She waved, not wanting to take that time yet to run over for a hug. She could do that at the end. She was busy thinking what spell she should start with, when Sariss blurted out an incantation! Jazz looked confused...nothing came at her, but Sariss suddenly looked more relaxed and focused. Ohhhh! One of those kind of spells. Ok, now she was on, and probably had only seconds to live. Knowing she had nothing new to offer that Sariss couldn’t easily and laughingly counter, Jazz just decided to go with one that was fun, to her at least. “Tarantallegra!” The hex shot out of wand, aiming it’s self for her opponent’s feet. 128 - 15(LV2 Happy Feet Hex) = 113 Hits=0

Sariss was taking deep breaths. This was much better. Her hands were already getting warmer and heart wasn’t quite as high up in her throat anymore. Why was she so nervous? It was just a little Hufflepuff, right? Just ickle Jazz M. Turpin who wouldn’t hurt a fly! Right? Well… The fact that widdle Jazzickle had made it into this round showed that she was an opponent to be reckoned with. Ah… a typical Jazzy spell there. For some reason this was the spell that Sariss associated Jazz with. It was just so Jazz’s style. Right… but now better concentrate on blocking it. “Hhh…” Sariss coughed and gulped. There. Now she could talk. “Obs…” But it was already too late. The spell had already crossed the distance between the two girls and had hit Sariss’s feet—and they began to dance wildly. She hadn’t known that she was such a talented tap dancer. Tap tap, shuffle, step. Tap… shuffle… step. “I… um… I meant to do that…” Shuffle. Step. “It was a strategic decision.” She nodded for emphasis, but that didn’t keep her from blushing. Sariss was used to blushing mightily and didn’t care about it though. Shuffle. “Stipitis!” The incantation had a great staccato really. It fit with her tap-danging. Tap tap tap. Sti-pi-tis. 89 - hit - 20 (LV3 Camper's Charm) + 20 (focus) = 89 1 hit

Jazz was absolutely surprised when Sariss was hit by her hex! She had to, well giggle. Sariss was dancing so well! She tried to nod solemnly as Sariss explained that she meant to be hit...but for some reason, her blush didn’t match her words. Boy, did she know the feeling! “Nice moves, Sariss!” Jazz was tempted to dance along, cause it looked fun, but Sariss was chanting something as she tapped and shuffled. where had she heard that....OH!! She saw the HUGE log come flying at her....it was as scary as when she first saw it, not all that long ago, in a duel with Janus. She wavered...and leaped to the side, and fell down on the ground, which was a good thing, since the log would have probably hit her, as she felt the breeze of it’s passing over her head. She all but collapsed in relief not to be hit, but made herself stand. She started to laugh at herself. Boy, how graceful was that! And she could have blocked it if she had been paying attention! “Oh, Sariss, that was ...amazingly frightening!!” Jazz summoned up her resolve not to go without trying, and sent a shower at the dancing Slytherin. Her giggles made it a bit wavery, and she almost changed the incantation at the last minute....but stuck with the one she meant to. “Aspergo!” 113 - 0(hit) - 14(LV2 Shower Charm) = 99 Hits =1

Tap tap. Shuffle… Tap… Okay, it was wearing off. That was good, since if it lasted a little bit longer, Sariss was certain a band would walk up and play the pipes and beat the drums. Sariss giggled at Jazz’s compliment and bowed low, still slightly tapping, but becoming slower by the second. Oy… and there came already a spell hurtling towards her. Well, technically it wasn’t a spell per se; it was no glowing light, no sparkle. It was a jet of water. And it looked cold. A shuddering Sariss called out, “Obsidio!” The mere thought of getting hit with that one made her freeze. She wouldn’t have minded a snowball that much. But water had the nasty side-effect of soaking you through to your bones. And speaking of freezing, so had her feet, finally. No more dancing Sariss—at least for a while, hopefully. “Coruscare!” she called out, a strong spell for an opponent that looked more harmless than she actually was. If Jazz was facing someone else, she could probably wipe them out of the tournament within the blink of an eye—well, unless it was Jasmine or Monica. A ball of fire soared towards the little Hufflepuff. 89 – 20 (LV2 Blocking Charm) – 20 (LV3 Flare Charm) + 20 (focus) = 69 1 hit

Oh! Her hex was wearing down, and Sariss was dancing a soft shoe, then was able to stop. Darn. She didn’t think she would be able to get her again with something like that. Fire!! FIRE! One thing Jazz hated was fire, and this was one of the strongest she had seen for a long time. She instinctively knew her little shower spray would do nothing against such a force flying at her. She could block, but she wanted to run....she froze! “Eeep!” At the last possible second, she slammed down to the platform making herself as flat as she could, feeling the heat scorch over her. She rolled over to her back, to make sure any scorchy places weren’t on fire and jumped to her feet. “Um, that was a hot one. One thing I’m learning, is what spells I need to learn as I move up. If I survive all this.” Jazz grinned at her opposite, to let her know she had no hard feelings, and sent her same watery spell winging at her, hoping for a little spray backwash to cool her own face. “Aspergo!” 99- 0 (hit) - 14 (LV2 Shower Charm) = 85 Hits =2

“Phew! That was close!” Sariss said when Jazz just barely avoided being fried by the fireball. Maybe the Slytherin shouldn’t use that one again… She didn’t want to hurt the little Hufflepuff after all, even though she really wanted to do well in this tournament. It was widely expected of Sariss to win this competition, but the Slytherin herself wasn’t so sure about it. If she was going to have to face Monica and/or Jasmine at some point—which was all very likely, as they were probably the most brilliant duellers at the school—Sariss surely wouldn’t make it any further, unless she’d get very very lucky. But this was all in the future. For now, Sariss had to concentrate on the matter at hand, and that was a Hufflepuff who was intent on giving her a shower—and managing to do so. Sariss coughed and spluttered when the huge bucketful of water splashed over her. It was freezing cold! Sariss would grab herself one of those big fluffy towels as soon as this duel was over. She didn’t want to catch herself a cold when it was late spring already and all sunny outside. “Brrrrrrr…” she shivered and waved her wand somewhat shakily. “Stipitis!” 69 – 0 (hit) – 20 (LV3 Camper’s Charm) + 20 (focus) = 69 2 hits

Jazz cringed as Sariss got all wet. She would have run off and grabbed a towel for her, since she looked awfully cold, but, well they were dueling a tourney. “Sorry?” Jazz murmured. She knew that it was so very close to the end for her. She decided she wanted to find out more about the charm Sariss had cast on herself at the start of the duel. She hadn’t dueled very many people with status affecting spells(except Jenna) and she was curious about the positive affects. It sure seemed to have helped her. Not that she thought she had much of a chance anyway, but she knew she was much weaker, and Sariss still looked strong....wet, but strong. She couldn’t help but giggle a little. Then, Sariss pronounced her spell, and the massive log came flying at her. That was just....not a really nice looking thing to have coming at you! She had to block it! “Tegere! I hope it works...it’s the first time I’ve used this in a duel!” She stood with some confidence, although biting her lip, knowing that will must enforce her spell......and it worked!! The log bounced off, and broke apart!! She almost sagged with relief...and with the amount of energy it took out of her.....but she wasn’t quite done yet. Maybe she would get lucky and get Sariss wet again? “Aspergo!” Maybe she was just too tired to think of her other spells. 85 - 60(LV1 Take Cover Charm) - 14(LV2 Shower Charm) = 11

Sariss was busy wringing out her soaked hair. You wouldn’t believe how much water such a braid could absorb. It was like a sponge really. Squeeze… drip… drip… It was of little use. A stray flare charm or so would be lovely now… If it passed her just closely enough to not singe her… Mmm… That would be lovely and warm. Sariss greedily eyed a fireball at another platform—and then thought better of it. Those towels looked quite nice too… maybe they had a warming spell on them. That would be nice… Huge pre-heated towels that you could wrap around yourself so many times that it seemed like a cocoon… What a lovely thought for our shivering and freezing Slytherin. “Obsidio!” This time she blocked Jazz’s spell. She really didn’t want to get soaked again—although by now even freezing cold water would feel positively warm… It was time to put an end to this duel really. Sariss wanted her fluffy warm towel… and a cup of hot chocolate… Yes, good idea… Maybe Jazz would also like one… They could go and have a post-duel cuppa in the kitchens. Surely the busily scuttling and scampering house elves would gladly spare a minute for a little chat and have a cup of their own too. Well… at second thought that wasn’t very likely—unless the elf in question was Dobby. The others weren’t so ‘free’. “Oh oops… Sorry… Got lost in my thoughts. Expelliarmus!” Sariss chanted and reached out, expecting Jazz’s wand to come flying towards her. “What do you say… *shiver* to a cup of hot chocolate in the kitchens? Preferably next to the stove?” Sariss grinned, jaw shivering so badly that it made her teeth clatter together in regular intervals. As soon as possible, she’d run to grab herself one of the fluffy towels that she had been fantasising about. 69 – 20 (LV2 Blocking Charm) – 25 (LV2 Disarming Spell) = 24 2 hits

| Watching Sariss wring the water out of her hair, Jazz felt a little spark of guilt. Her hair was no where as thick as Sariss’ was, and the amount of water it held was surprising. It must take forever to dry! Her own hair dried rather quickly...most of the times, as long as she sat near a fire. Fire...she saw Sariss eyeing the fire at the next platform. “I almost wish I knew a fire spell to warm you up, Sariss, but I really don’t like them. There’s something about fire rushing at you that ...well, really scares me. I don’t know why....maybe I should learn one?” She mused on it for a moment. Her wand decided to answer the call that Sariss’ spell put on it..... and her gloves saved her from having wand burns ...which was one thing she loved her gloves for. She almost felt like waving goodbye to her wand, as it soared through the air to the Slytherin’s out stretched hand. She bounced over to retrieve her wand. At least it was a friend, or a friend in making, that had her wand. It would be awful if someone she didn’t like took her wand, or someone who didn’t like her. “Congratulations on winning the duel, Sariss. I’m glad I lost to you! Erm, well, you know what I mean.” Jazz pinked. “Oh, hot chocolate sounds wonderful!” Jazz hugged the shivering girl, and pulled her towards the towels stacked near by. 11 - 0 Disarmed - Sariss wins!!
