Virtual Hogwarts .net > The Halloween Ball > An angelic Halloween dance - Since there hasn't...

Sariss was positively glowing when she entered the Great Hall that particular Halloween. It had been exactly a year that Seb had told her that he loved her, and since she had confessed her love to him in words also. They had both known their feelings for each other, but as it was always with teenagers, they had both been hesitant and a tad scared, even though it had been obvious to everyone else that there had always been something between the two of them, even when neither of the two love-birds had even dared to realise this. To speak of love-birds was something not quite unfitting this day, since both their costumes had wings. Whereas Seb's wings looked rather heavy, were feathery and simply darkly angelic, Sariss's wings more resembled the wings of a faerie in their delicateness and transparency. She looked not quite like herself that day. Never in all her time at Hogwarts had she worn a colour as light, a dress that made her look less Slytherin as she looked that very day. Sariss smiled happily at Seb as she reached out for his hand to pull him through the throng of students that crowded the entrance area of the Great Hall. It was rather difficult to squeeze through the crowd, but Seb's wings were stronger than hers and caused many students to scarper aside. Only then could Sariss see the splendid orange-ness with which the Great Hall was decked out. All the pumpkins, the flock of bats that circled beneath the enchanted ceiling, the also orange-coloured bat-shaped cookies that were laid out on large platters, the sugar-coated apples... oh it was just a great experience each and every year. She turned around and grinned at Seb. "Care for some spooky food?"

Seb grinned over at the angelic Sariss as they stopped near the table filled with food. He adjusted his wing and the straps that held them on his back. “And when did it need to be spooky for me to eat it?” It was then he decided to glance over the table. It wasn’t as much spooky, as horrid. Things looked alive, he realised, cringing slightly. Leaning forward, Seb picked something up. “Urgh! Look at this!” The boy dangled what looked like a wriggling worm in front of Sari’s face. “Isn’t it positively disgusting? Oh I wonder what it tastes like!” A glint in his eyes, he bent back his head and let it drop down his throat. “It still wiggles on its way down.. mmm.. it tastes.. liquorice-y?” He shrugged and looked back at the table. “We have… pumpkin pie, obviously. Oh! That looks like a brain! Claws!” He bent over the table to pick up what looked like rotting claws but managed to hit Sariss with one of his wings. “Eh heh,” He blushed ever so slightly, “Sorry about that, I just..” Seb pointed to the claw in his hand which looked really yucky and … crispy. “Do you want to share? We can have two fingers each? Or.. can I get you something to drink? Um, or would you rather try to dance?” Seb said try, as he knew some how their wings would get in their way, and everyone else’s way. Looking around he did manage to spot a few other people with wings, yet none quite as extravagant as his or Sari’s, or as large for that matter.

Sariss chuckled softly to herself as Seb examined the food. He was right with everything that he said. However, Sariss was sure that the food tasted as delicious as it looked horrid. She shuddered at all the crawliness but was oddly reassured when she began telling herself that it was all just a charm that added to the atmosphere. Ewww... Seb ate that wormlike squirming thing! Yuck! She'd have to think twice before kissing him now. Oh? Well, if it was only liquorice... then... hehe... It's all just a charm... All a charm... Boy, that yucky hand does look crispy! "Whoops!" Sariss said as she lightly bumped into the table, having been given a little nudge by one of his enormous wings. She smiled at Seb though. "Phew... All good," she added. As Seb began to ramble off all the options that they had now, Sariss had to chuckle again. He was always so enthusiastic when some sort of celebration was going on. "Um... Well... Why not try some of the absolutely horrid-looking food, then drink something and then dance? If we make it that far after having had some of that..." She waved her hand at the table in an all-encompassing gesture. "... stuff." She looked up at Seb, beaming up at her dark angel. She found his costume extremely impressive and very... appealing.

“Um... Well... Why not try some of the absolutely horrid-looking food, then drink something and then dance? If we make it that far after having had some of that..." Sariss waved her hand to all the grub on the table "... stuff." Seb pushed the claw in Sari’s face. “Oh come on. It’s only pastry! Look!” Seb picked of some flakes, which looked very similar to dried skin. “Really,” he then popped it into his mouth and swallowed. “All you need to do is remind yourself its food. And as always, its gooooood. The black nails though…” Seb slowly pulled one out of a claw, narrowing his eyes in delight, “I they could be real.” With a grin, he too popped it into his mouth and chewed. “Mmm.. nice! And afterwards I want to try some of that drink there,” Seb pointed to a jug filled with a mucky kind of liquid. “If I eavesdropped correctly, which I always do by the way, it’s meant to be the fluid from inside a dead body that’s drained out – um, when your organs liquefy? If there is a technical term, I don’t know it. They’ve really splashed out this year on the spooky stuff.” For some strange reason, Seb had quite a strong stomach. Hoping Sariss hadn’t turned too ill, he cut out a segment of pumpkin pie, ‘the normal food’, and placed it on a plate for her then handed her a fork. “There we go, m’darlin, something which isn’t too icky. You know, oohhh!! Stop stop!” Seb got hold of Sari’s wrist and pulled the fork and pie which she was about to eat, away from her mouth, “You may want to, er no, you may NOT want to look at the filling.” Seb had seen it as she placed a chunk on her fork. Inside, mixed in with the filling was, what Seb hoped, a jelly spider. Now he thought of it, maybe it wouldn’t been better if he hadn’t pointed it out. They did say ignorance is bliss after all, and now Sariss would maybe spend the rest of the night being quite paranoid of all the food, and drink. "Um, you look simply divine, by the way," A grin appeared on his face, joined by a wink. "Shall I eat that for you?" Seb pointed to the jelly spider.

As odd as it was, Sariss didn't feel particularly ill when Seb described what he thought of the food. She wasn't squeamish when it came to such things. Well, not more than was healthy and especially not when she knew that it was not the real thing, just a yummy scumptious halloween delicacy that looked disgusting. For as long as there were no live spiders in the food... Mmm! Pumpkin pastry!!! That one looked really good! "Thank you, Sebbie," Sariss said and got ready to dig in. Seb, however, had other plans and pulled the fork and pie away from her again. What the--? "Not look at the filling? What do you mean 'not look at the filling'?" Sariss repeated blankly and did just that. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! Sariss inwardly screamed when on the outside, the hand that held the little plate only began to shake. Eyes wide, she stared at the sp-sp-spider... "Um, you look simply divine, by the way," Seb grinned and winked. Understandably, Sariss was not exactly receptive to such a lovely compliment at that point in time. "Shall I eat that for you?" Sariss nodded blankly and shuddered when Seb gulped down the spider that was probably just as delicious as a chocolate cookie. But when it looked like a spider, Sariss could not see past that. It looked like a spider. Therefore it had to be a spider. And as she hated spiders and anything that looked/moved/scuttled about remotely like them was a total no no around her. When the spider was gone, she could breathe again. "Oh dear..." she gasped. "Why couldn't it be an innocent little marzipan-maggot?" As odd as it was, Sariss didn't find worms and the like disgusting. It must be the legs... the crawliness and all that made her freak out so much. "Er... maybe I'll be happier with one of those rotty-looking things... I mean... if the stuff that looks fine on the outside is so ewwwww on the inside, then it must be vice versa when it looks rather nasty, right?" she babbled shakily and reached for a really disgusting-looking bloody eyeball that she popped quite unceremoniously into her mouth. "Yum!!! Wafer... and... oooh... a hazelnut... in... hmm... some sort of whipped creamlike stuff..."

Seb laughed somewhat uncomfortably as he picked something off the food table and held it out towards Sariss, who was currently chewing on the eyeball. “Marzipan-maggot?” He shrugged and popped it into his own mouth anyway. “They say the goo in maggots are good for your wings. Creates shine and strengthens apparently… Or so it said on the label. But anyway,” Seb took Sari’s hand in his own and tried to turn without their wings hitting the table. Next year if he was still here, he would come as something less complicated. “We need to dance now. Our song has just came on. And yes, I know we don’t actually have a song, but, it’s slow, and I get to pull you close to me, like this…” The boy wiggled his eyebrows before he pulled Sariss close to him and guided them carefully to the dance floor. A few kids were already there, dancing with their friends or partners, but it seemed a lot of them were stood outside the dancing area, stealing glances at the person they happened to like at the moment. Seb thought they were silly. After all the things that had happened at Hogwarts over the last year or two, they should at least know to share how they felt about someone, be it a special person, or their family. Though, the latter one Seb wouldn’t be doing some time soon. “So is it true that the muggles go around and steal money from people dressed up as witches on Halloween, and if they don’t get anything, they come to their houses in the middle of the night and scare them with pumpkins?” Seb asked in a hushed tone as they slowly swayed to the music in the background.

Sariss blushed a bit as Seb pulled her close. Boy, he was great when he wasn't costumed in such a positively... oy... costume, but somehow Sariss found him gorgeous all dressed in black with those huge wings. They suited him soooo well. Glad that she was where she was with whom she was, she snuggled up to Seb as they swayed to the music. It must look funny how they danced, both of them wearing wings and all. She only half-noted the things that Seb whispered to her and so it took her a while to register how much he had mixed things up. That was often the case with wizards who didn't have much contact with the Muggle world. "No no no!" Sariss giggled and grinned up at him as she pulled back a little. "It's all a bit different. You see, Muggles dress up in all sorts of spooky costumes, vampires and other undead or dead things... And... they, especially children, go around town and knock on the doors of other people and try and get sweets... and if they don't get sweets they'll pull a trick on them... like throw eggs at their door or something," she explained it all as well as she could. "And the pumpkins are there to scare the ghosts away... Old tradition, I think. I hope I remembered that all halfway correctly..." She grinned at him. "But it's much more fun in the wizarding world anyway, especially at Hogwarts... and with you." Sariss stood on tiptoes and gave Seb a little smooch on the cheek.
