Virtual Hogwarts .net > The Three Broomsticks > Shopping Break

Seb held the door open for Sariss as they entered the Three Broomsticks. They had been wandering around Hogsmeade for a while now. Seb had bought items from Zonko's, and Sariss had purchased some sweets from Honeydukes.

They were going to drop in on his Great Uncle Dervish, but one glance through the windows, they changed their mind. It was packed full of first years, and the odd second year trying their hardest to be served. The two sat down at an empty table, just left of the bar and Seb took a peek at his buys.

"I can't wait to try these singing sweets. Maybe if I melt down the sugar, I could add it to someones drink?" He said, then let out a childish chuckle. "And these nose biting teacups are brilliant! Ah, worth the money, I say!"

With a grin, Seb's imagination took over as he saw his mother and father sat in their library having an innocent 'spot of tea' with a set of nose biting teacups.

Heheheheh.

This day had been nothing short of brilliant. After a little visit to Zonko's and Honeydukes, Seb and Sariss were taking a little break from their not-quite shopping spree. Sariss felt she couldn't stop smiling. Seb even held the doors open for her whenever they entered a shop or left. In his presence, she felt like a lady. She blushed at the thought. As a matter of fact, she'd blushed every time he'd done something nice. But that wasn't really news. Usually, a mere wink or grin courtesy of Seb sufficed.

And now they had entered the Three Broomsticks for a little break. One could feel that the summer was over. It was getting stormy outside and colder. So a Butterbeer was even more tempting than usual.

Seb and Sariss sat down at a table where Seb took a look into the bag he had the pranks stored in.

"I can't wait to try these singing sweets. Maybe if I melt down the sugar, I could add it to someones drink?" Sariss grinned as he chuckled. "And these nose biting teacups are brilliant! Ah, worth the money, I say!"

Seb grinned too.

"Just imagine the looks on everybody's faces when a poor unfortunate Gryffindor speaks in a voice that makes glass shatter for two weeks or so... " Sariss giggled; her grin broadened. "Or if you took that teacup to your Divinations lessons. Haha... no tealeaf reading possible there."

Sariss looked around the Three Broomsticks. The place wasn't as crowded as it had been the last time she'd been here. It certainly wasn't as crowded as Dervish and Banges. For a few more weeks, any visits to either one of the shopkeepers were out of the question.

"Hmm... I wonder what a girl has to do to get a Butterbeer in here..." she grinned.

"Hmm... I wonder what a girl has to do to get a Butterbeer in here..." Sariss asked, Grinning.

"Well," Seb started, putting his bag on the floor next to him. "I heard you have to stand up on the table, do a dance and sing about the drink you want. Or, I guess I could go get them..." He said, standing up heading over to the bar. He stood between an elderly wizard and what looked like a drunken witch.

A few minutes later Seb returned with two glasses of butterbeer. He placed Sari's butterbeer on the mat in front of her, and his own in front of him then sat down. He took a sip of his own.

"Mmm, this is delicious!" Seb told her as he licked his lips then took another sip. "So, when are you planning to use your rhyming sweets? I have got to be around for when you eat them. Fun-fun! Oh! You could slip one to a Professor. Though, It'll be hard to cast a proper spell. Well that is unless it rhymes to begin with."

Sariss sniggered and Seb went to fetch the Butterbeer.

When he returned with two glasses, Sariss smiled and thanked him.

"Mmm, this is delicious!" Seb said, and Sariss took a sip too. "So, when are you planning to use your rhyming sweets? I have got to be around for when you eat them. Fun-fun! Oh! You could slip one to a Professor. Though, It'll be hard to cast a proper spell. Well that is unless it rhymes to begin with."

She laughed, almost snorting into her Butterbeer. After a little cough, she was able to say, "Not at the moment. It would be hell to have to duel in a state like that. I don't know any spells that rhyme yet. Or if you had to answer a question in class... How embarassing that would be. Well, only for me. For everybody else it would be hilarious."

She took another sip from her glass. "Planning on becoming a soprano anytime soon? Or maybe turning some of your dormmates into a soprano?" She indicated the singing sweets and broke into a fit of the giggles. "With Christmas coming closer, it would be funny."

Posted by: Seb_Darwin Sep 14 2003, 12:18 AM
Seb chuckled. "Yeah, the Slytherin Christmas Choir! I can imagine it now... Dressed up in the angelic gear, polishing our halo's and singing Christmas hymes in a pitch so high the windows shake! Personally, I'm up for anything if it gets a laugh!" He finished, grinning widely.

"I know we have other things to come up first, but I really can't wait until Christmas. All the snow. The only down side would be if I got called home for the holidays. But. We know it won't happen so yay!" He took another sip of his drink and placed it down on the table.

"You know, ever since taking that blasted potion Friday before last, I've had the horrible taste in my mouth. It just won't shift. Love potions, I ask you." He tutted, "What would Snape say?!..."

He picked up his drink once more and took a gulp, as a weird silence made it's presence at the table.

"You know, ever since taking that blasted potion Friday before last, I've had the horrible taste in my mouth. It just won't shift. Love potions, I ask you." Seb tutted. "What would Snape say?!..."

Sariss shrugged, thinking that Snape would probably not pleased with having an illegal potion at Hogwarts. She couldn't help but watch the other second-year students closely, trying to find out who had received the potion. It could be anyone. Seb, Liam, Cien, Adis... The list went on endlessly. And Sariss still didn't have a clue. All those symptoms that everybody insisted they had or probably only imagined...

Weird... she thought to herself, sipping her Butterbeer. It was strangely quiet all of a sudden. Almost eerie.

"Um..." Sariss thought of something to say. "So... any news about Quidditch tryouts yet? I hear there are a lot of first-years who are dying to be on the team."

"Um..." Sariss said, "So... any news about Quidditch tryouts yet? I hear there are a lot of first-years who are dying to be on the team."

Seb gave a shrug. "you'd know more than I would, being a prefect along side the current Captain. With me back on the team I'm not sure how many spaces are free. They'll mainly be reserves I guess."

He picked up his drink and gave it a swirl in his hand, letting out a sigh.

"I should save up and get the updated broom, though I doubt i'll ever get rid of my current broom."

It had happened so quickly. One minute he was bubbly and full of things to talk about, and suddenly his brain had gone dry of things to say. They'd covered the weather, kind of, classes, kind of, and now they were onto Quidditch.

Seb sighed. "I should save up and get the updated broom, though I doubt I'll ever get rid of my current brom."

Oh dear... Seb seemed somewhat unhappy now. Maybe he was missing Cien? Where was Cien anyway? Sariss suddenly felt uncomfortable. Shouldn't it be Cien who went out with her boyfriend instead of Sariss? People might be speaking ill of Sariss behind her back. Really now.

No. It wasn't good to think about that. Sariss was comfortable with Seb; and Seb had been cheerful too--up until a few minutes ago. Well, she'd have to try and cheer him up a bit again. That was what friends were for after all.

"I was hoping that this fabulous new broom would be coming out in October or so... Just in time for the beginning of the Quidditch season," she said. "I think it was a... a... an Eagle... something... It's supposed to be really fast and all. I've been saving up most of my allowances to get one of those. If I sell my old broom, I'm sure I'll have enough money to get that new one."

Posted by: Seb_Darwin Sep 14 2003, 01:15 AM
"I don't know the model." Seb confessed. "I didn't even know there was a new one due out. Apart from the one Father is working on, but that's not due out until December, in time for Christmas. The downside to that is that it'll only be for Professional teams first. We would have to wait until the final game of the Season has been played before we can get our mits on it."

I'm hungry. Seb was temped to eat one of his singing sweets just to fill his stomach a tad, but decided against it. Being chucked out of the Three Broomsticks for his singing wasn't high on his list.

"Dueled anymore recently?" He asked, playing with his glass of butterbeer.

Seb played with his glass. "Dueled anymore recently?" he asked.

Sariss grimaced. "Does word get around that I've been duelling so much?" she answered his question with a question. "Well... Yes, I did. Quite a lot too. I want to be really good, you know? A good knowledge of duelling spells and experience might be important. Who knows what the Dark Lord is up to? And... well... I was thinking that I could become an Auror after finishing my education here... I don't know though... Maybe I'll change my mind... It's still almost six years until we graduate..." she babbled along and realised that she was babbling again.

This was so annoying. This constant neverending flow of words that seemed to come out of her mouth when she was talking to Seb.

She sipped some Butterbeer again and then asked, "What about you? Any ideas about what you want to be yet? Any dreams?"

Posted by: Seb_Darwin Sep 14 2003, 01:40 AM
"When I leave school?" He repeated her question. "I have no idea whatsoever. Lets think for a moment, what am I good at?" He paused. "Exactly. Now, I don't think I'll want to follow up Quidditch. No, and we know journalism is out of the question. Wouldn't mind being a Professor, but the odds of that happening with my grades. I could work in the Ministry somewhere I guess."

Seb took a drink of his butterbeer. The glass was almost empty now, but he knew if he got another and drank it as quick as he did this one, he would be running off to the toilet sooner or later.

"You know, you would probably end up being an Auror. You have the brains and skill for it."

Posted by: Sariss Sep 14 2003, 01:53 AM
"No Quidditch? You'd have the talent though..." Sariss mused. "And I don't see why you couldn't become a professor. Your grades aren't bad at all... And if you really set your mind to it... Well, we'll see. It's still a long time."

"You know, you would probably end up being an Auror. You have the brains and skill for it," Seb said.

Sariss smiled a bit. "Well, I'm trying... But I'm not particularly brave." She looked at her hands. "That's a real problem sometimes; and I always have to force myself. Duelling, for example. As soon as I'm waiting in the chamber, I'm starting to get nervous... And when the duel is on, I'm positively frightened," she admitted. "I'm just glad that it gets better when the first few spells were cast. Otherwise, I'd be totally useless."

Posted by: Seb_Darwin Sep 14 2003, 02:03 AM
Seb nodded. "I understand. I sometimes get nervous before a duel. Once I've blocked one and sent one back out it's fine. I enjoy it." He placed his glass back down after anothe swig. "I haven't dueled for ages. I'll probably be kicked out of the club. Tomorrow. I'll ask to duel someone tomorrow as it seems my other duel fell through."

His stomach gave a small grumble and Seb blushed as he placed his hands over his stomach. "I think someone is trying to comunicate with me." He grinned.

"Well yeah. I guess my grades are better than what I expected." He told Sariss, taking his hands off his stomach and rested them eitherside of him. "Have you got back into the swing of classes yet? I still haven't learnt my timetable."

Posted by: Sariss Sep 14 2003, 02:13 AM
Sariss smiled when Seb's stomach rumbled. It was getting late. It must be dinner time soon. She was getting hungry too and eyed the Every Flavour Beans.

"Have you got back into the swing of classes yet? I still haven't learnt my timetable," Seb asked.

"Well, it seems like a lot more work than last year," Sariss said slowly. "Although we have fewer classes at the moment. I guess they just give us twice as much homework as last year to make up for that."

She emptied her glass. Mmm... Butterbeer is really delicious.

"Well, yes, I had to learn the timetable. I'm expected to know it off the top of my head. You see, I've taken on me the task of informing everyone about their lessons. Those first-years are still showing up in the wrong classes. Still confused."

She smiled at Seb. "Were we ever like that?" She grabbed the bag of Every Flavour Beans and opened it, offering it to Seb.

Posted by: Seb_Darwin Sep 14 2003, 02:24 AM
Seb thanks Sariss as he took two Beans from the packet. He threw them into his mouth at the same time. "Mmm, grassy beans." He said, pretending to enjoy the strange flavour.

"I never ended up in the wrong class but I always followed other people about if I knew they were in my class. Though I never learnt the timetable then, neither. I mean, I knew my favourites. Potions on Friday, Divination and Astronomy on Saturday... But that was basically it."

Looking towards the door, Seb got an idea. "You know what we should do? Go visit the Shrieking Shack!! It'll be fun. Up for it?" He asked her as she munched away on a Every Flavour Bean.

Posted by: Sariss Sep 14 2003, 02:29 AM
Sariss took an Every Flavour Bean and popped it in her mouth. "The most severely haunted house in Britain?" she grinned. "I've never been there. Is it really as creepy there as people say? Ewwwww... spinach..."

She grimaced, wishing that she still had some Butterbeer to get rid of the taste.

"I hate spinach..." she shuddered.

Posted by: Seb_Darwin Sep 14 2003, 02:35 AM
"I dont know, as I've never been. One way to find out." He said as he picked up his bag and waited for Sariss. "You can take a sip of my butterbeer if you want." He said, as he saw Sari turn a sickly shade of pale from the Every Flavour.

A few minutes later the two were heading out of the Three Broomsticks and on their way to the haunted shack which stood at the end of Hogsmeade Village, grinning with excitement.
