PAGE OF CUPS by Karen
Lotus Tarot Collaborative Tarot Project: The Court Cards

The Page of Cups is standing in the blue water of the unconscious. She raises her cup, saluting all with love and emotion in total abandon. In her other hand she holds a crystal globe which she focuses on to gain clarity into her emotions and tune into her intuition.

She wears a white hat to show us her emotions are pure. Red tulips on her dress represent both spring and her budding emotions and unconscious passions. She is standing completely undaunted in the middle of the water of unconscious showing us that she is ready, willing and able to fully explore and investigate this area. Is she dressed for it? You bet, because the dress is just the outer trappings, an illusion, that does not deter this page of cups from exploring anything. Whether it be climbing that tree, jumping down the rabbit hole, or jumping into the waters of unconscious.

The reflection of the tree show us that the page does not accept all she sees as real without fully exploring it. The reflection represents another illusion, and the dangers of vanity and self-love that can befall the page of cups.

The rabbit hole on the bottom of the card represents the world of fantasy and illusion this page often lives in. Her favorite place to retreat to is the land of make believe where rabbits talk and cats smile. The heart off to the side is made from grapevines woven together representing her love and the fact that it binds and weaves into her life everything and everyone that she comes in contact with, as well as the abundance of love that she does have. The red roses in the middle of the heart shows us the passion with which she loves.

The tree in the background represents an emotional life that is well balanced when it is provided ample grounding. A grounding so strong it can weather any storm and last through the years.

The model for my Page of Cups is my daughter Brieanna. The background photo was taken in my sisters back yard, the tree being a favorite place for my page of cups to play. The fish and rabbit hole were copied from one of her coloring books and the wreath is an actual wreath that my page made for me with the help of my sister for mother's day. We went through a whole roll of film to get the right shot of the Page, she so got into posing. And many pictures on my sisters digital camera to get just the right shot of the tree.
