KNIGHT OF WANDS by Karen
Lotus Tarot Collaborative Tarot Project: The Court Cards

Well my original Knight of Wands joined the scraps in the garbage heap last week. She was originally sitting astride her faithful steed (in the form of her dog). Events of last week, and thinking about this card, made me remember something which I had read that fit in well with both my Knight and her current situation perfectly. (It was a wonderful aha moment for me)

"The fairy tale and mythic tales of the hero who fights a dragon are often related to the archetypal experience of separation from our families. The hero fights the dragon (dependency on family), succeeds (successfully seperates from family), and is then able to pursue his own quest for unique self development."* Hence the symbolism behind my dragon. My Knight of Wands is flying off to seek new challenges, new adventures, safe in the knowledge that she can conquer all.

Her costume alone shows some aspects of the Knight, though more in the telling than the costume. She was bound and determined to create her own costume and absolutely refused any and all of my suggestions (actually, she pitched a fit.) Nothing I said, did or threatened her with would sway her. When I realized that she was behaving just like a spoiled Knight of Wands, I let her have her way. She was exhibiting the traits of - hot tempered, being unafraid, and what she thought of as very creative.

This Knight is mounted confidently on her dragon flying off to her next adventure. Perhaps a little fool hardy as we can see by how far away from the Earth they have soared. On her head she is wearing her "hat of courage". The red of her dragon also speaks of this courage as well as action, willpower and the sheer forcefulness and passion of this brave knight. The orange on her dragon is symbolizing her determination, confidence and her more impulsive side. The ultra huge smile she is so proudly wearing as she soars high above the clouds is showing us a glimmer of her charm and self-confidence. She is proudly waving her suit marker in her free hand (also showing a bit of that fool hardy side, she should be hanging on with both hands).

The dragon riding Knight of Wands is flying high above the earth to show us that she will boldly go where no man has gone before and the sky is definitely her limit and it is limitless.

Key words often associated with the Knight of Wands - charming, self confident, daring, adventurous, passionate, creative, enthusiastic, courageous, unafraid and of course cocky, foolhardy and hot tempered.

Her dragon is my rendition of the dragon "ORD" from the cartoon Dragon Tales on PBS. Her "hat of courage" is complements of the United States Marine Corps, one of my sons "camy" hats. Her suit marker is Brieanna's big red plastic baseball bat.
