The Quintessence: Culling the Elixir
Excess energy that is stored in the internal organs can be gathered by the use of energy collectors and used to nurture the pearl. First, you must start creating energy collectors. As a form for the energy collectors, use a unicursal hexagram surrounded by a circle three inches in diameter. The energy collectors are created through visualizing yourself drawing them with your inner energy. Energy is best collected in the morning. When done at night, it may keep you awake.
Exercise One
The first set of energy collectors are created in front of the Lower Cauldron, just behind the navel, and behind the Lower Cauldron, just in front of the spine. Visualize your luminous body being filled in turn by the colors red, yellow, white, blue and green. Start your eyes spinning and create the front energy collector. See the center of the energy collector also start to spin (direction does not matter). Form the back energy collector and see the center of the collector start to spin.
Now feel that the stars of your energy collectors are spinning horizontally, creating funnels of energy flowing from the collectors into the Lower Cauldron. Concentrate more on the Cauldron to help draw in the energy. Form a pearl in the Cauldron, and sense the pearl condensing and beginning to glow.
Guide the pearl into the circulation of energy up the spine and down the front of the body, remembering to spin the eyes. Circulate the pearl several times. Return the pearl to the cauldron and collect the energy around the navel.
Exercise Two
Repeat Exercise One. Then form a third energy collector on the left side, at ninety degrees from the navel. Feel the center of the star begin to spin. Then form a fourth energy collector on the right side, at ninety degrees from the navel. Feel the center of the star begin to spin.
Feel energy from the two side energy collectors spiraling into the Lower Cauldron, and forming the pearl there. Guide the pearl into the circulation of energy up the spine and down the front of the body, remembering to spin the eyes. Circulate the pearl several times. Return the pearl to the cauldron and collect the energy around the navel.
Exercise Three
Repeat Exercise Two. Then form a fifth energy collector horizontally above the Lower Cauldron, at the level of the solar plexus. Spin your eyes and feel the star on this energy collector begin to spin. Then form a sixth energy collector horizontally beneath the Lower Cauldron, at the Dragon Castle just above the genitals. Spin your eyes and feel the star on this energy collector begin to spin.
Spiral energy from these two energy collectors into the Lower Cauldron, forming the pearl. Guide the pearl into the circulation of energy up the spine and down the front of the body, remembering to spin the eyes. Circulate the pearl several times. Return the pearl to the cauldron and collect the energy around the navel.
The addition of these last two energy collectors here will add a lot of power to your work, and the energy will begin to lock into place when the pearl is formed. The Lower Cauldron will be felt to heat up.
Exercise Four
Sit in a chair with your hands clasped and the tip of your tongue raised to the roof of your mouth. See the luminous body surrounded in turn by the colors red, yellow, white, blue and green. Form the front energy collector.
Then, lightly contract your anus and mentally draw water energy from the kidneys and store it in a three inch sphere at the perineum. Then lightly contract your anus and draw Fire energy from the heart and store it in a three inch sphere in the center of the chest.
Simultaneously spiral the collected energies into the front energy collector. Then form the other energy collectors and spiral in energy from all of them into the Lower Cauldron to form the pearl. Circulate the pearl with sight spin several times, then return the pearl to the Lower Cauldron and collect energy at the navel.
Exercise Five
Repeat Exercise Four. Then put your concentration on your liver. Form the collection point for liver energy as a three inch sphere located straight down from your right nipple to the right side of the navel. Spiral Spirit energy from the liver down into the collector.
Then put your concentration on your lungs. Form the energy collection point for the lungs as a three inch sphere located straight down from the left nipple to the left of the navel. Spiral Air energy from the lungs down into the collector.
Simultaneously spiral energy from the liver and lungs collectors into the front energy collector. Mix and blend the energies there. Put the concentration on the spleen. Create the energy collector for the spleen as a three inch sphere inside the front energy collector. Draw Earth energy from the spleen down into the collector.
Draw the elemental energies from the collectors into the front energy collector. Mix and blend the energies of the five elements and organs together here.
Form the back energy collector and spiral the combined elemental energies from the front energy collector and the energy from the back energy collector into the Lower Cauldron. Form and spiral energy from the side energy collectors into the Cauldron. Form and spiral energy from the top and bottom energy collectors into the Cauldron.
Condense the spiraling energy to form the pearl. Circulate the pearl a few times, then return it to the Lower Cauldron and collect the energy around the navel.
Exercise Six
The five internal organs correspond to external sense organs. The kidneys correspond to the ears, the heart with the tongue, the liver with the eyes, the lungs to the nose, and the spleen with the mouth (lips). This exercise will connect the internal organs with their corresponding external senses to draw in more energy.
Sit in a chair with your hands clasped and the tip of your tongue raised to the roof of your mouth. See the luminous body surrounded in turn by the colors red, yellow, white, blue and green. Form the front energy collector.
Listen down to your kidneys, and feel the connection between your kidneys and your ears. Draw the sapphire blue kidney energy to the water collection point at the perineum.
Feel the connection between your heart and tongue. Draw the red heart energy into the fire collection point in the center of your chest.
Draw the fire and water energies from their collection points into the front energy collector, and blend them there.
Look inwardly to your liver, and feel the connection between your eyes and liver. Draw the green liver energy into the Spirit energy collection point to the right of the navel.
Feel the connection between your nose and your lungs. Draw the white lung energy into the Air energy collector to the left of the navel.
Draw the Spirit and Air energies from their collection points into the front energy collector and blend them there with the Fire and Water energies.
Feel a connection between your lips and your spleen. Draw the yellow Earth energy into its collection point in the front energy collector.
Create the back energy collector. Then spiral the blended elemental energies from the front energy collector and the energy from the back energy collector into the Lower Cauldron. Form and spiral energy from the side energy collectors into the Cauldron. Form and spiral energy from the top and bottom energy collectors into the Cauldron.
Condense the spiraling energy to form the pearl in the Cauldron. Circulate the pearl several times, and then return it to the Lower Cauldron and collect the energy at the navel.
Exercise Seven
While the brain is our computer, the emotions of the organs are our software. Negative emotions prevent the completion of the Great Work. The heart harbors cruelty, hatred, arrogance and impatience. The kidneys harbor fear and stress. The liver harbors anger. The lungs harbor sadness, depression and grief. The spleen harbors worry and anxiety.
This exercise collects negative emotions from the organs and transforms them with the power of the pearl.

Listen down to your kidneys and tune in to negative feelings there. They may take the form of a color, shape, feeling, sound or taste. Colors can include cloudy blue, gray or black. Spiral the negative emotional energy into the Water collection point at the perineum.
Feel the connection between your tongue and your heart. Become aware of negative emotions there. Colors can include muddy red, orange or gray. Spiral the negative emotional energy into the Fire collection point in the center of the chest.
Spiral the energies from the Fire and Water collection points into the front energy collector.
Feel the connection between your eyes and your liver. Become aware of negative emotions there. They can be sensed as sharp-edged and painful, hot, muddy red, cloudy or gray. Spiral the negative emotional energy to the Spirit collection point to the right of the navel.
Inhale and exhale and feel the connection between your nose and your lungs. Become aware of negative emotions in the lungs. They can be sensed as cold, gray, cloudy or oppressive. Spiral the negative emotional energy to the Air collection point to the left of the navel.
Spiral the energies from the Spirit and Air collection points into the front energy collector.
Feel the connection between your mouth and your spleen. Tune in to any negative energies there. You might sense them as gray, cloudy, sticky or shaky. Spiral the negative emotional energy into the front energy collector.
Blend all of the emotions, sensations, colors, etc. in the front energy collector. Mix them around, spiral them until they are all blended together. Form the back energy collector.
Spiral the blended energies from the front energy collector and the energy from the back energy collector into the Lower Cauldron. Form and spiral energy from the side energy collectors into the Cauldron. Form and spiral energies from the top and bottom energy collectors into the Cauldron.
Condense the spiraling energy to form the pearl in the Cauldron. Feel the pearl transforming the emotional energies into positive energies. Circulate the pearl several times and return it to the Lower Cauldron. Collect the energy at the navel.
Exercise Eight
The five organs correspond to five flavors. The heart corresponds to bitter, the kidneys to salty, the liver to sour, the lungs to spicy and the spleen to sweet. In most humans, these flavors are unbalanced, as evidenced by the preference to some over others by each individual. This exercise helps to harmonize and balance the internal energies so that we can become aware of what our bodies need for proper nourishment.
Sit in a chair with your hands clasped and the tip of your tongue raised to the roof of your mouth. See the luminous body surrounded in turn by the colors red, yellow, white, blue and green. Form the front energy collector. Listen down to your kidneys and think about something salty. Project the taste of salt into your kidneys. Spiral the salty taste into the Water collection point at the perineum.
Feel the connection between your tongue and your heart. Become aware of a bitter taste. Taste that flavor in and around your heart. Spiral the bitter taste into the Fire collection point in the center of the chest.
Spiral the energies from the Fire and Water collection points into the front energy collector.
Feel the connection between your eyes and your liver. Imagine a sour taste. Taste that flavor in and around your your liver. Spiral the sour taste to the Spirit collection point to the right of the navel. Inhale and exhale and feel the connection between your nose and your lungs. Imagine something very spicy. Think of some spicy food you are familiar with and taste it in and around your lungs. Spiral the spicy taste to the Air collection point to the left of the navel. Spiral the energies from the Spirit and Air collection points into the front energy collector. Feel the connection between your mouth and your spleen. Imagine a sweet taste in your mouth and on your lips. Taste that sweet flavor in your spleen. Spiral the sweet taste into the front energy collector.
Blend all of the flavors together in the front energy collector. Mix them around, spiral them until they are all blended together, and no one taste predominates. Form the back energy collector. Spiral the blended energies from the front energy collector and the energy from the back energy collector into the Lower Cauldron. Form and spiral energy from the side energy collectors into the Cauldron. Form and spiral energies from the top and bottom energy collectors into the Cauldron. Condense the spiraling energy to form the pearl in the Cauldron. Feel the pearl blending and harmonizing all of the flavors. Circulate the pearl several times and return it to the Lower Cauldron. Collect the energy at the navel.
Exercise Nine
The pearl gets stronger and easier to form the more you practice. As it gets stronger, it begins to congeal and grow more stable. Once the pearl is finished, it can be projected overhead. Then it serves various functions, such as absorbing energies, protecting the luminous body and forming the body of light.
To project the pearl overhead, you must first create the pearl, circulate it in the energy channel, activate both the sacral and cranial pumps, raise the pearl to the top of the head and shoot it up over your head, where it will hang suspended.

Listen down to your kidneys, and feel the connection between your kidneys and your ears. Draw the sapphire blue kidney energy to the Water collection point at the perineum.
Feel the connection between your heart and tongue. Draw the red heart energy into the Fire collection point in the center of your chest.
Draw the Fire and Water energies from their collection points into the front energy collector, and blend them there.
Look inwardly to your liver, and feel the connection between your eyes and liver. Draw the green liver energy into the Spirit energy collection point to the right of the navel.
Feel the connection between your nose and your lungs. Draw the white lung energy into the Air energy collector to the left of the navel.
Draw the Spirit and Air energies from their collection points into the front energy collector and blend them there with the Fire and Water energies.
Feel a connection between your lips and your spleen. Draw the yellow Earth energy into its collection point in the front energy collector.
Create the back energy collector. Then spiral the blended elemental energies from the front energy collector and the energy from the back energy collector into the Lower Cauldron. Form and spiral energy from the side energy collectors into the Cauldron. Form and spiral energy from the top and bottom energy collectors into the Cauldron.
Condense the spiraling energy to form the pearl in the Cauldron. Circulate the pearl several times while spinning the eyes. Activate the sacral pump and the cranial pump and raise the pearl to the top of your head.
Pull in on your eyes and look up toward the crown. Inhale. Then exhale sharply out of your nose and mentally shoot the pearl over your head between two to six inches. Practice controlling the pearl overhead for a few minutes.
Dissolve the pearl and draw it back into the body by releasing the sacral and cranial pumps. Collect the energy at your navel. You can change the pearl into each of the five colors and they will combine to form a protective shield for the luminous body.
