Spells and Enchantments Lesson 1

Today I will be teaching you several basic charms. Charms are a type of magic spell used to enchant or conjure an object. Most Charms seem to have a positive effect on people, such as the Cheering Charm. Some Charms can be very basic, very simple, while others can be some of the most complicated pieces of magic.

ALOHOMORA: Alohomora is a charm that causes a locked door to unlock. This charm works with most mechanical locks, such as locks on a chest or a suitcase, and of course, doors. However, Alohomora is not powerful enough to open a door sealed with both a lock and an enchantment keeping it shut. To cast this spell properly, point your wand at the lock and say, "Alohomora!"

SUMMONING CHARM: Accio, also known as the Summoning Charm, causes an object to fly to the caster, even over a long distance. The caster must, of course, have some general idea of the location of the object being Summoned. You must have a great deal of concentration while casting this charm. Failure to do so will result in ... nothing. Your object simply will not come. To properly cast this spell, concentrate hard on the object that you want to summon, having only that object in your thoughts, and say, "Accio!" In a matter of seconds or minutes -- depending on where the object is coming from and if you've cast the charm properly -- your object will appear.

BANISHING CHARM: The Banishing Charm is the exact opposite of the Summoning Charm. This charm will send an object away from the caster. Let's say that you wanted to "banish" a book across the room into a box. Again, concentration is a must. Concentrate hard on the object that you want to banish, having that object and where you want to send it in your mind, and say "Banishinum!" If cast properly, your book (or desired object) will land in the correct spot.

SCOURING CHARM: A simple, yet very useful charm. The Scouring Charm cleans things, fingernails, for example. All you have to do is point your wand at the object you'd like to clean, and say, "Cleansin!" A very simple charm -- almost always cast properly.
