Valerie Rice
Through her youth Valerie's parents forced her to attend muggle schools even though she hated it. When she was six years old, Valerie was diagnosed with a learning disability which affected her ability to read and write. She longed for the magic world but all she ever saw of it was her mother's charms she'd use around the house. On the rare occasions when the family would go to Diagon Alley or to a quidditch match, Valerie would soak up all she could. Despite her desire to be a witch, Valerie knew she didn't have much of a chance. When she was 8 years old her parents had thought she asleep as they discussed how she had yet to show any signs of magical ability. Valerie was devastated by the fact that she might actually grow up and never know the magic world beyond what her mother would tell her.
As the years went by Valerie came to terms with the fact that she'd never be a witch and she began to take her muggle studies more seriously, though she still was horrible at it and had been placed in remedial classes and given extra tutors. Valerie also began to take her favorite sport soccer more seriously as well. She began playing in girls leagues and by the time she was 9, she was playing in competitive games for her school team.
In the summer after she turned 11, Valerie faced a challenge. She was moving to a new school, she would no longer be in elementary school but was off to private school. No doubt the studies would be much harder at a new school and she would have to work harder than she'd ever worked before. On the day she was to register for her classes for the year, her mother's barn owl delivered the wizard mail. It was nothing new to Valerie, her mother's wizarding friends always sent mail. Yet as Valerie picked up the mail to set it on the table she was shocked to see one addressed to her! Valerie never got wizard mail except on her birthday and holidays. As she turned the letter over, she smiled when she saw the Hogwarts insignia. Without much regard for the envelope Valerie tore open the letter and read it over and over again. She simply couldn't believe what she was reading, she had been accepted to Hogwarts!
When she arrived at Hogwarts, Valerie was an extremely shy girl, because of this she had a very difficult time making friends. In her early years at Hogwarts Valerie tried to open up to others but ended up being taken advantage of. For the first time ever, she enjoyed her classwork but soon found that others were being nice to her only so she could share her work with them. As a result Valerie had a difficult time trusting unfamiliar people. She did manage to make a few close friends whom she spent most of her time with.
Now that she has graduated from Hogwarts, Valerie has taken up a job at her friend Catalina's new shop in Hogsmeade. She is unsure of her future, she is still debating if she wants to continue working in the Wizarding World or if she wants to return to the Muggle World.
