Useful Tolkien Sites
Welcome to the Traveling Gnome's Guide to J.R.R. Tolkien, whose beautiful fiction has inspired dozens of artists and, more recently, one extraordinary director. This site is dedicated to Tolkien and his works, not just the movie which has been lauded (and rightly so!) by critics and moviegoers everywhere, but to his writing. As an amateur writer myself I have always viewed Tolkien as the ultimate in language and creative writing, and he has always been an inspiration for me.

Tolkien was primarily a linguist, a studier of language and words. He wrote Lord of the Rings as a backdrop to his creation of the elvish languages Quenya and Sindarin. He never expected it to become as immensely popular as it did. But there was something about this book, a story of the age-old conflict between good and evil, that caused people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy it. An unlikely hero, a love story, a king in exile, wizards, mythical creatures, battles and the ultimate triumph of good, make Lord of the Rings an epic none of its readers is likely to forget.

There is so much to learn about Tolkien and his writings, such as the presence of Christian myth in Lord of the Rings, and the ten books of Middle Earth history. I'm not that versed in it, sadly, I've only read parts of the appendices at the end of Return of the King. Hopefully someday I'll have the time to become more of a Tolkien scholar and impart my wisdom to everyone, but till then, enjoy what I've got here at my site.

Picture Galleries are what I've got mostly now, including some of my own original photoshop stuff. Also, this site uses the Flat Brush font. If you don't have it on your computer, click here to download it. That's all for now; email me with questions, comments, etc. Namarie!
