Spira

Final Fantasy X takes place in a world called Spira. One Thousand years ago, there was a violent war between Bevelle, and Zanarkand. Spira revolved around the use of Machina (Machines, technology, etc.), and in doing so, they also used it for the war. Soon later, Yu Yevon, the ruler of Zanarkand, summoned a mighty beast called Sin, but its power was far too great to control. Sin vanquished Zanarkand, along with everyone in it, and destroyed Bevelle. Bevelle had thought that Sin was a weapon from Zanarkand, and after witnessing its tremendous capabilities, they were terrified. So, Bevelle decided to surrender to Zanarkand, but after climbing to the top of Mt. Gagazet, they saw the ruins that had been Zanarkand, the great Metropolis. Then they heard a song, echoing off the snowy slopes of the mountain. "Tis a song from an Otherworld!" They thought. Soon, people all over the world began to sing it. They sang in defiance of Bevelle, so Bevelle had to ban the song. But then, people who were in defiance of Yu Yevon began to sing it. Bevelle was outraged, and they could not keep it banned. They lifted the ban off the song, and spread a new story. It is now said to soothe the souls of the dead.

The Fayths of Yevon began to Dream. They began to Dream of the Zanarkand that had been. They dreamt so long, that it became a reality. In this Dream was Tidus. Auron, from Spira, the real world, took Tidus to Spira to show him what reality really was. In Spira, Zanarkand had already been destroyed one thousand years ago. Tidus then meets Wakka, who teaches him about the Teachings Of Yevon. The Techings state that the use of Machina is a sin, and will draw Sin closer. So from the day the Teachings Of Yevon spread, which was the day the ban on the song was lifted, Machina had been a bad thing to use. It was banned, and on the same occasion, the Temples Of Yevon were spread out across the world. Wakka introduces Tidus to LuLu, and Tidus meets Yuna on his own. Then came Kimarhi. Tidus, Wakka, LuLu, and Kimarhi are now her Guardians, and they are to protect the summoner (Yuna) at all costs, even at their life. Yuna is to go on a Pilgrimage, a journey to pray at every Temple Of Yevon, and attain every Aeon. Finally, once completed her Pilgrimage, she can summon the Final Aeon, the only power that can stop Sin, and bring the Calm (Time between the moment Sin is defeated, and when Sin returns ten years later).
