FOX5 NEWS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS COVERED THE MURDER CASE

New York Daily News, August 7, 1992. DEATH'S DANCE. "Agent" charged in slaying. Li, a messenger for a Chelsea firm, handed out cards or fliers near FIT saying that he was an agent. "He told them, I'll make you a star. What do you want to be a singer? A dancer? I'll make you that. "Who knows how many fell for that line -- ten girls? A hundred? Maybe a thousand." Once Li gained a young woman's confidence, he would take photographs, allegedly to show to producers. Some women posed nude. By Michele Parente Page 7.

New York Post, August 7, 1992 - POST: FOCUS ON METRO NEW YORK. COPS: OBSESSED S.I. MAN KILLED TEEN GIRL. Alfredo Li, 32, of "56 Bellhaven Place on Staten Island" knew the victim, 18-year-old Linda Burgos of Brooklyn, for two years, and had been acting as her manager. Page 8.

The New York Times, August 7, 1992. WOMEN'S QUEST FOR FAME ENDS IN DEATH IN THE NIGHT. "Suspect Said To Be Obsessed With Victim" Regular Communication: He would approach a pretty girl and present himself as an agent over a period of time. If she could sing or if she could dance, he would say he could introduce her to the right persons. But first he would say he needed pictures, and then he would suggest that the girl show a little more skin - A quietly ambitious woman who wanted to act and dance" - "Police say a supposed agent lured a hopeful actress over two years" Several acquaintances of Ms. Burgos who are students at the institute, told investigators that Mr. Li had posed as a theatrical agent and made promises of introductions to important people in the arts. They told investigators he had met Ms. Burgos about two years ago, had used the same "line" with her and had become obsessed with her. The arrest stunned neighbors and fellow workers of Mr. Li, a short, slightly built man who lives with his mother and several sisters in a two family home at (56 Bellhaven Place in Willowbrook, Staten Island), and works as an independent delivery contractor for Manhattan Area Post, an overnight package and mail delivery concern at (530 West 25th Street). On the job Mr. Li never talked about his private life, the owner said "In hindsight," he said, "I don't want to say he was a nice chap, but if the charges are accurate, he added, certainly a Jekyll-and-Hyde character." IMPACT STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF VICTIMS PARENTS WAS NOT ALLOWED TO BE HEARD BEFORE THE JURY IN COURT "CRIMINAL ATTORNEY JACK LITMAN DISAGREED" AND WAS HANDED TO THE JUDGE TO INCLUDE IN CASE FILE.

COMPLAINT AGAINST CRIMINAL DEFENSE LAWYER JACK LITMAN

DEPARTAMENTAL DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE, SUPREME COURT, APPELLATE DIVISION, FIRST JUDICIAL DEPARTMENT, 41 MADISON AVENUE, NEW YORK, N.Y. 10010 - Re: Matter of Jack T. Litman, Esq. Docket No. 95.3225. Upon receipt of your complaint against Jack T. Litman, esq. our staff reviewed the allegations in it. Public awareness of this Committee's role is essential to our efforts to improve the conduct of lawyers. Very truly yours, Hal R. Lieberman, November 24, 1995.

Alfredo E. Li of Asian Chinese origin was born on November 7, 1960 in Peru. A non U.S. citizen with a criminal record from Minnesota to New York.

REPORT ON CONVICTED PRISONER - DISTRICT ATTORNEY OF NEW YORK COUNTY

DETAILS OF OFFENSE: "Quote" Defendant was the "manager" of Linda Burgos' singing and modeling career. When she decided to break their management contract, Defendant became upset. They arranged a meeting to return to Burgos some property she had left in defendant's van. At the meeting, defendant shot Linda Burgos in the head. Killing her. The gunshot wound had been a contact wound, execution style, to the head. Although the defendant held himself out to be a successful events promoter and manager, in fact he drove a dilapidated delivery truck for a messenger service. The defendant should serve the maximum sentence possible for setting into motion the chain of events which caused the death of Linda Burgos. The defendant is the direct cause of extinguishing an innocent life. During the trial, the defendant, through his attorney, attempted to smear the victim and blame the victim, who was completely without fault under any theory of the case. This tragedy does mark the first time that the defendant has been involved in violent incidents with guns. He was convicted in Minnesota of arm robbery. Twice more, the defendant brandished a weapon in the presences of the victim and her friends, once at the victim, and once at some other people. In neither instance did the defendant act in self defense. Defendant was also arrested for robbery in Queens. During the execution of a search warrant in the defendant's home at the time of his arrest, the detectives found many magazines related to guns, as well as handcuffs. It is clear from his prior convictions and bad acts that he has exhibited anti-social behavior which poses a threat to law abiding people. Li was shown mercy by the jury, which only convicted him of Manslaughter 2nd degree. He was shown mercy by the Court at sentence, who did not sentence him to consecutive prison time as requested by the People. He deserves no further sympathy by the granting of early parole. Kerry O'Connell, Assistant District Attorney, March 11, 1997.

"WE TRUSTED THE JUSTICE SYSTEM AND IT FAILED"

"JACK THEODORE LITMAN IS DEAD AT 66"

Jack Theodore Litman (July 26, 1943 – January 23, 2010)[1] was a criminal defense lawyer most famous for his "blame the victim" defense of Robert Chambers, Jr. (the "Preppie Killer").

While intellectual and cool in the courtroom, he adopted the strategy of soliciting juries' sympathies for the perpetrators of even the most horrible murders. The tactics used in the Preppy Killer trial earned him scathing criticisms from many quarters, including victims' rights advocates, feminists, and the family of the victim.

Litman had two sons, who survived him. He died at age 66 in January, 2010, of lymphoma, a disease he had suffered for more than ten years.

"Jack T. Litman, Lawyer for 'Preppy Killer' and Others, Is Dead at 66". The New York Times. Retrieved January 24, 2010. Content is available under CC BY-SA 3.0 unless otherwise noted.

Jack Litman used the same tactics in "People v. Alfredo E. Li" blaming the victim in the most tarnishing way in court and before the press. After the trial, the criminal received a short sentence and was deported to Peru where it was reported that he traveled to Brazil and perhaps other countries to enjoy freedom and a good life.
