Mocha's Adoption Page

This is a page about my beautiful Black Lab, Mocha. She needs a good home, and I decided that this would be a good way to tell you about her, her history, and what I hope for her future.

She was adopted from the Surry County Animal Rescue and Foster Program in June of 1999. She came to us at about 9 weeks old, and full of love and life. It was reported to us that she was taken to the shelter by her previous owner, and that she was acquired from a breeder. (although we have no official breed papers which state such)

Unfortunately for that owner, they were unable to meet the needs of a puppy, but fortunately for me, we were able to adopt her.

She spent her first two years of life as an inside/outside dog -- sleeping in the house, and playing outdoors during the day. She was crate trained, and completely housebroken ... although she did have a bit of an excitable urine problem, this was diminishing as she grew older. She was spayed at six months of age, and has always been healthy and kept up to date on vaccinations. She grew up to be an extremely healthy and active dog. She has been perfect as an excercise partner, or as a loving companion.

Mocha gets along well with other animals! She was raised in a house with a cat, whom she quickly learned was the "boss"... and often plays with other dogs. She is a very submissive dog, but has never been mistreated. She has always been very good with children also.

I need to find a home for Mocha... where I know she will be loved, cared for, and will have a good life. I've had to move, and cannot give her the environment or care that she needs.

Mocha is three years old, and in February of this year, she was hit by a UPS truck. The result was a fractured sacrum and broken pubis bone.

Mocha was kept crated for 9 weeks following the injury, and is now up walking, and has built strength and muscle again. She had lost most of her muscle tone in her hips and rear legs, but she is now able to walk, run, and play normally. She's even put on quite a bit of weight since her recovery!

I have no doubt that she will live a full and happy life. She was fully housetrained as a puppy and young adult dog. It was very difficult for her to betray her training, when she was not allowed to leave her crate for many weeks. I haven't witnessed any adverse affects of the injuries.

Please look through the pictures I've posted here. They show her as a puppy, and an adult. I've included below some pictures of her taken this past July. You will see that she is a great dog, with a full life ahead of her.

Many people encouraged me to have her put to sleep when her injuries occurred in February. I could not end the life of such a beautiful and caring dog, when there was a chance that she could recover and have a healthy, happy life.

I've given her the chance to begin recovery, but now I need to find a home for her - to give her the happy life she deserves. I can bring her to visit you, if you would like to get to know her! If you can give Mocha the home she needs, and you would like to add this wonderful dog to your family, please email me at karriehunter@hotmail.com. I'll reply as soon as I can. Always within a day.
