LORD AND LADY BADEN-POWELL'S BIRTHDAY. On Saturday, February, 22nd, 2003, seventy two members of Guides Canada celevrated our founders birthday. Singing all the way we trekked from our base camp at the local school, to Cold brooke Park in the heart of downtown. We created a giant trefoil in the snow and sprayed the leaves the colours of Guiding. Pink is for Sparks, orange for Brownies, blue for Guides and a green stalk representing Pathfinders. We gathered for a short ceremony opening with O'Canada and an international Hello, closing with candle lighting ... thinking about our many sisters in Guiding in over 144 countries around the world. Before returning to the school for lunch each of us tied a colourful trefoil on the railings of the bridge at the Park, a symbol of our Guiding presence in Knowlton. The afternoon was spent crafting swaps and pins with an international flair, developing the girls awareness of the diversity of Canada. There were elephants from India, Yukon gold pans, Scottish kilts, Chinese rice bowls, Mexican god's eyes, Irish shamrocks, and Canadian maple leaves. The girls also tried a Maori Stick game from New Zealand. We welcomed, Veronica, a new Sparks Guider and the 1st Knowlton Guides enrolled two new members. Brenda was awarded a thirty year pin for her years of dedicated service. To complete the birthday celebrations... cupcakes with candles, a delicious finale to a fun filled day. there.
