Gil Edwards was born and raised in Oregon, USA. Music has been his main interest as long as he can remember. Even as a child he seemed to have a musical talent above the ordinary. As an adult he was invited to travel to Norway to work with a song writing team. For an American organization.
Many Europeans, have with high hopes of fame and fortune, packed a bag and headed west toward the USA. Gil did the opposite: With guitar and a few possessions he left his home country 19 years ago , and went east towards Europe. Gil's introduction to Norway was not quite what he expected. The first while was tough! Many nights were spent under bridges and in back alleys in Oslo. Committed to success, he literally worked his way up from the gutter. After a while the jobs came more frequently and were Better paid. Marius Muller took him on in his first band project "Små Hender" in 1981-1982, and toured the whole country of Norway. Gil worked for a longer time at the famous night club "Sardine's" in Oslo, as head bouncer, and in that job he met some of the best musicians available in Norway at that time. They started the band "Oslo All-stars" in 1986. in this band were among others. Knut Reiersrud, Eivind Aarset, Atle Bakken, Ole Giørts, Jørunn Bøgeberg, Bjørn Jenssen og Elg. All great Norwegian musicians. That was then this is now.
For the most part it was pubs and small clubs that gave Gil the acceptance that he needed in Norway. With his characteristic appearance, captivating music, Large portion of humor, and his spectacular show, He has obtained many loyal fans all over Norway. At the same time that he was playing over 200 shows a year, he managed to write a large body of original material. I 1999 released his album debut "Can't give it up" which sold a respectable 8000 CDs. From there Volkswagon chose the song "Man In Trouble" from the album for it's big TV campaign in 2000. His appearance on the nationally seen TV show "Metropol Live" and was well received, and with a solid place on national radio, as well as local radio everywhere in Norway. Gil saw this as a chance to tale a step into a larger and more creative world, which he appears to have handled very well!!!
Gil's music has been classified as Alternative Country, or No Depression, a music style that has become very popular in the USA. This music is much rougher and more rock than ordinary country. The popularity of this style of music is largely due to artists like "Steve Earle" and "Son Volt". We believe that Gil will be instrumental in making this form of roots rock popular in Norway and in the rest of Europe in the time ahead. This is a very exiting music style with a big international potential. Gil has now connected with a group of musicians that play this music exceptionally well both on CD and on stage!
Gil is on tour continuously in Norway but has now taken his first step out into the bigger world abroad on the 17 of September 2001 he released "Can't give it up" in Denmark, with live performances both on radio and national TV and a tour which started on the 8th of September 2001 in Nykøbing. An exciting step up for an artist that is indeed working himself forward in the world of international music and entertainment!!
Parallel with this work in Norway and Denmark, Gil Edwards and his great band "The Love Jokers" in the studio in Trondheim, Norway , with the Norwegian producer Ulf Riisnes (Tre Små Kinesere), recording his new CD, that will be released in the beginning of 2002.
