Hello, friends. If you're reading this, it probably means I've learned how to put a URL on fanfiction.net chapters. Otherwise, I probably beat you with a rock and then dragged you here while you were unconscious.
As you've probably guessed, this is a webpage I've set up to display information on my recently finished novel. More information will be coming soon, but for now, here's what it's all about.
For the moment, my story doesn't have a title. I haven't found the right label to sum up my story yet. The temporary title is 'Avilion: World of Pen and Sword', but it will probably be changed later on. I mean, come on, it hardly flows off the tounge does it? Besides, if you really think about it, it doesn't make a whole lotta sense. I'm open to title suggestions though. Drop me a line at MURPHYCHACHO@aol.com
Have you ever read a story and wished you could be a part of it? Julia has, but sometimes wishes can go horribly wrong.
Julia is a junior in high-school, and an aspiring fantasy writer. Depressed with the world she lives in, Julia loves to escape in the stories she writes. Julia is an outcast. Her peers instinctivly avoid her, and the only ones who really know her are her only childhood friends, Eve and Rosie.
But Julia has a secret. She hates the world she lives in. She longs to live in a world like the ones from the stories she reads. This is something she hasn't even confided to Eve and Rosie.
While in the school library one day, working on a new novel, Julia, Eve, and Rosie are drawn into the world of the story. There, they meet Zaneth, an elvish warrior with a few secrets of his own, and also the main character in Julia's book!
How were the three girls brought to the book's world? Who is Zaneth, and what impact will he have on their lives? Can they survive long enough in this frightful new world to find a way home? And who is this mysterious 'Man of Darkness' that haunts Julia's nightmares every step of the way? What does he want with her?
Living in a fantasy world was Julia's dream, but now her dream has become a nightmare.
The story encompasses so many different elements, that I have to choose several genres to describe it. I think it fits best under Adventure/Fantasy/Romance/Horror
I would say in the mid-teens. This story may not seem like much from this little synopsis, but later it gets into some pretty deep stuff; like physics, human nature, the dark side of the human soul, the Multiverse Theory, and finding your place in the world.
WARNING! While I have no current plans to include sexual content in this story, that doesn't necessarily mean it's kid's stuff. This story has swearing, violence, blood, death, suicide, insanity (and I mean SERIOUS insanity. I'm talking 'Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon-type insanity'), racism between humans and elves, suggestive themes, best friends betraying each other, torture (mental and physical), puppy-kicking, reality tv; you know, pretty scary stuff. Approach with caution.
The story is actually going to span across a series of novels. It's going to be pretty long. Probably seven books, give or take a few. I'll post a brief description of the individual books once I get this site up. (It'll be sort of like reading the description on the back of the book)
If it's the same as all the others out there, then it's cliche. But my story isn't like those. It has a deep, dark plot, and in those other stories, the characters all seem to fit some sort of sterotypical role. I think I pulled a pretty good job of showing how modern american teenagers would react in a situation like this. Most of the characters undergo dramatic emotional revelations. (For instance, Julia starts out as a quiet, slightly-bitter girl. You can bet that will have changed by the story's end)
First, I actually have to finish editing it. Then I'm going to start looking to get it published, and who knows how long that will take? Keep checking this site for details, I will be posting them as time goes on.
Two words. HELL. NO. Just because three of the main characters are female, doesn't mean that this is one of those novels about 'girl power' and the 'strength of friendship'. (cringes) This story is intended for both genders. Besides, the girls aren't the only characters in the story, they just appear first. The guys play a major role, but their side of the story doesn't really start until the girls show up.
Another thing that makes this story different is the girl's personalities. In most of the 'chick-lits' I've read (and I find very few of them worth reading) the girls are stereotypical, preppy, bimbos who don't really do anything except obsess over how hot the boys are. Julia, Eve, and Rosie aren't anything like that. They're very laid-back and down-to-earth. I don't think you see that very often in 'chick-lits'. While some of the girls in my story DO wind up with a romantic interest in a boy, that's not the only thing they think about.
Sorry, but no. I hate to sound like an ass, but I've already got all the characters I need. I've got most of the story mapped out, and I don't feel like rewriting the whole thing over again to include an uneeded character.
