21. 3D Studio Max Texture Mapping - Part 2

So, in the last tutorial I showed that, although the LightWave 3DS Export module works, it messes up Diffuse (called Color) maps and Bump Maps.

It properly sends surface names as objects over to 3D Studio Max, and that is good. We will use that aspect of the export module, and we'll use 3D Studio Max's Material Editor to add the Diffuse and Bump maps afterwards.

THE 3D STUDIO MAP MATERIAL EDITOR

You apply texture and bump maps to objects in 3D Studio Max by going to the 'Material Editor'.

In the 'Main Toolbar', click on the 'Material Editor' icon

If it doesn't appear in the 'Main Toolbar' you may have to scroll the toolbar to the left by pointing your mouse to a plain gray area until a hand appears, dragging it to the left.

Click on the 'Get Material' icon

Double-click from the 'Material/Map Browser' list.

Select the 'FrntMap.bmp' image.

Change the Material Name to 'Front Map' in the text gadget to the right of the eyedropper.

Make sure all 'Mirror' and 'Tile' checkmarks are turned off and that 'Show Map on Back' is not checkmarked.
