Boating Safety
These tips provide excellent
safety ideas to assure you are safe in
the water.
 |
Educate yourself by having the
right information, charts and maps,
and equipment to make your trip
safe.
|
 |
Check the weather forecast before
you leave for your destination. Plan
clothing, equipment and supplies
accordingly.
|
 |
Know your craft and how it
operates. Be sure it is in good
operating condition before venturing
out. Leave a "float plan" with
someone on when and where you are
going, and when you are expecting to
return. The Coast Guard can't search
if they don't know you're missing.
|
 |
Know your local boating laws. It
is your responsibility to know and
follow local laws and ordinances
such as age of operator, no wake
zones, speed limits, and assigned
operating areas. Keep a copy of the
Federal Regulations as a guide.
|
 |
Make certain your trailer lights
work and your watercraft is secure.
Land safety is just as important as
water safety.
|
Your local Coast Guard Auxiliary
provides a Safe Boating Course.
