As you enter the Sector 7 Slums, Barret will clear out the bar on the left side of the screen and call the team inside. Go inside and talk to Tifa, if you bought a flower from the flower girl, you’ll have a chance to give it to her, or Barret’s daughter, Marlene. Talk to the rest of the team also, and then head for the exit, but before you can leave, Barret rushes in and calls a meeting for the team. Before going down, talk to Tifa again and have a drink, and when the conversation is over, take the elevator down into the basement.
When you get to the basement, you’ll see that the bombing of the reactor is on the news, and Shinra is trying to regroup to counter the terrorist act. When you talk to Barret, he’ll begin giving Cloud a hard time about his previous involvements with the Shinra. Tifa comes downstairs and breaks it up, but Cloud’s mind is set on leaving, however before you can exit the bar, Tifa will come back up and try to stop Cloud, and the two will re-visit a childhood memory of Cloud making a promise to protect Tifa whenever she was in danger, and Tifa now intends for Cloud to keep that promise.
Afterward, Barret comes up the elevator and gives Cloud his payment for the assault on the first reactor, and also agrees to pay Cloud another 2000 for the next mission, a raid of the Sector 5 Mako Reactor. After an agreement has been reached, the team rests until the morning. When you awaken, go up the elevator to meet with the rest of the team. Barret will ask Cloud for help using materia, which leads to a tutorial about it, if you agree. When you’re done, head out into the slums.
