Draft 3 of Albion's City

Notes

The city began on the upper (northern?) shore of the crater bay. There are 15 towers in and around the city. The tower by the mouth of the river was the first, later the black tower was built (the black circle.) As the city grew the need for a protective wall arose and thus the four northernmost towers were built, as well as the tower just east of the oldest tower. These were linked by a wall and a gate between the two towers furthest to the east.

The city had now begun to grow on the southern shore and eventually fortifications were built there also. The first towers were the white tower on the tip, linked to a tower south-east of that by a wall that then continued northeast to a tower on a small hill and ended by a tower just opposite the tower on the other side of the river. This last tower has since been dismantled to build later walls.

The city has grown further over the decenniae and a further five towers have been built (these are all on the far south-eastern part of the map) with a new gate being added to the city. This is now known as the lower gate, the original gate being the upper gate.

The city's harbour is now on the southern shore of the crater bay with warehouses further inland. The southern part (the lower) is also the poorer part of the city. To the east of the city - outside its walls - are farms that produce food for the citizens. The farmers both deliver food to local shops, as well as sell their own produce in the market (location yet undetermined) on a certain day of the week.

The red area is represented on the maps available below.

First Part of the City

This drawing was used as the basis for the area around the Old Temple (the grey building) which will have the same function as the current village church.

The city map is available here. Beware! It's large.

The Old Temple is marked in purple in the north-west section of the map. The black tower can be seen in the south-west corner. The gate out of the city is on the eastern edge. The coordinate system expects the x (horizontal) coordinate first, then the vertical. E.g. the coordinates of the Old Temple are: 90,75-90,76

The contour map is done:

The first draft of the street map is available here. Yes, it's large as well. Unfortunately, names placed vertically aren't shown properly for now. Send me suggestions for street names you'd like to see. To the right of the map is a list of street "types". It is a handy reference if inspiration fails to strike.

You can now download the main map and the street map in MS Excel format.
