The Valley Fire and Rescue Department covers 43.86 square miles and a population district of approximately 5,200 citizens. Currently Valley duel responds with Waterloo and Yutan Fire Departments.

Emergency medical technicians can continue training to become IV administrators as of May 15, 2001 they will do breathing treatments.  Also, members are required to have 30 hours of Emergency Medical Services and fire training every year, they have meetings once a month on Mondays or Wednesdays to train in fire and rescue. They must be trained in search and water rescue for rivers and lakes, and they must also be trained in extrication with the jaws of life.

Valley Fire and Rescue Department gets their funding through taxes in the Valley Fire District #5 area. The Valley Suburban Fire District consists of 5 members.
