I begin to come to life
My love of pottery began in 1985 when I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Il, under the direction of Bill Heyduck. I have been producing and selling my functional stoneware pottery throughout central Illinois. The pottery is all hand-made and of original design. The pottery is fired at extremely high temperatures, making
it durable and very strong. The glazes are lead-free, and are safe to use in the dishwasher, microwave, and oven.
My husband, Jay, started helping me in my studio before we were married. We have four children, Katie 15, Dave 14, Paul 12 and my youngest, Sarah at 3 years. Sarah is already showing interest in throwing on the wheel. We live in rural Effingham on three acres that runs along Green Creek. My studio is the basement of our home. The kiln shed is “out back”. I make the clay
myself in an old bathtub. My glazes are formulated and mixed using raw materials. View the picture gallery to get some idea of the style of pots I create.
as I'm taken off of a bigger lump.
I feel the warmth of her hands
as she squeezes
pounds
and coils me.
I'm shaped into the likeness
of her imagination.
Then she stops.
She leaves.
I'm thouroughly exposed.
I've been left to dry.
As I slowly become leather-hard,
she comes back.
I feel her warm touch once more,
only to become
a work
of art.
