Reviewed by Matthew

The Shining is a very famous book written by Stephen King. It is about the Torrance family that is in hard times. In the family there is the Father named Jake, the Mother Wendy and the son Danny. Danny isn’t an ordinary boy, Danny can read peoples minds, and see into the future. Jake is a writer and once was a teacher but he hit a kid when he found him popping the tires of his car. They take a job in hotel for the winter. One of the reasons they go to the hotel is that Jake has writers block and he needs some peace and quite to write his novel. The hotel is called the Overlook Hotel and is high in the Mountains. Very winter it is closed because no one could get through the snow to the hotel. The hotel needs to hire someone to look after the hotel during the winter. They have to watch the boiler and make sure the snow doesn’t damage the hotel. Half way through he book a huge snowstorm comes and snows them in the hotel. While they are trapped in the hotel, the hotel takes over Jack’s mind and tries to use Jake to kill his family. The hotel wants Danny’s special powers to increases it own powers. In the end the hotel is thwarted and Danny and Wendy escape.

I highly recommend this book, it was very well written book and it was really scary. Although if you don’t like scary books don’t read it! It is very scary and has a lot of violence and blood. Also the book has a lot of swear words in it. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5.
