Beach Erosion Under The Microscope Along SC's Coast

Charleston
(AP) - Much of South
Carolina's 15 billion dollar tourism industry is built on sand.
So scientists at Coastal Carolina University
in Conway are studying rates of beach erosion, as well
as where sand deposits are located offshore.
That sand can be used to rebuild beaches that have
washed away.
Coastal's Paul Gayes says offshore sand deposits will probably be
smaller and less
accessible as time passes. Scientists are working to understand ocean
processes that redistribute
sand once it has been poured on the beaches.
