Master J with 25 pounds of morels found in 1 day! A personal best..2003 season.

In 2001 the morel mushrooms here in Wisconsin never had a chance to hide with this foursome out in the woods. Pictured left to right, Jason & Jesse (brothers), Larry, and Brett. Larry is known as North America's #1 morel mushroom expert. He has written several books on morels and has been on numerous TV programs including CBS! Larry was working on making a video called "The Motherlode". We got to know Larry through mushroom festivals and via the Internet. We had informed Larry we had some of the best morel hunting in the United States. He come to our neck of the woods and was not disappointed! We hunted and filmed for just 3 days and come up with around 100 pounds of morels! We were blessed with huge numbers of morels and superb weather for filming. Brett, Jesse, and I all had a small role in the video. We now feel somewhat famous!!

This monster morel (pictured left) was found in 1998. It weighed in at 1lb. 3 ounces. The morel literally looked like a small tree before it was picked!! The morel took first place in our local morel festival contest for largest morel found. My daughter Ashlyn with a great find!

These kids just can't wait to bite into a morel! Pictured left to right are Ashlyn, Austyn, and Miah.

This is why Brett takes us along with him on the hunt. I can't quite picture him luggin all these morel's out of the woods by himself!! These were found on May 10, 2001 by Jason, Brett, & Jesse. A total of 43lbs broke our record for most found in a day! (2002 - New Record Set! - 72 Pounds!! - Jason, Brett, & Jesse.)

The Edge brothers (Jason & Jerett) clean house at the morel hunting contest in 2002 in Jonesboro IL.! On Saturday Jason took first place with 214 morels while Jerett takes second place with 196 morels found in the 6 hour hunt. On Sunday it was a battle of the brothers in the woods. It was a fight for the Grand Champion Trophy which is given out to the person who finds the most morels over the weekend. They were running around the woods as if there was no tomorrow. 3 hours into the hunt, Jerett had twice as many morels as Jason did which was looking pretty good to take home the Grand Champion Trophy. Defending champion Jason (who has taken first place the last 3 years) knows of a secret spot in which he hasn't been to yet. After visiting the spot he is not disappointed. He bags over 100 morels in this spot to win the 2 day contest. Jason won the Sunday first place trophy along with Grand Champion Trophy to give him 3 trophies over the weekend. Hats off to Jerett who was runner up again on Sunday. This was his first trip to Jonesboro. I'm sure he'll be ready for the rematch again next year!

The Morelmasters prevail once again at the morel hunting contest in Jonesboro Illinois. Due to Easter falling on Sunday we only competed on Saturday. Jason took 1st. place while his brother Jesse placed second. Jerett, Jason's other brother, who placed second last year, came in 4th this year.

Jerett show's us how good his eyes are in Jonesboro IL. at the morel hunting contest. Black morels don't grow in our area so it is neat to find a different variety.

Our friend Jason finds a nice cluster of yellow morels. He goes on a hunt with us most years. 6 pounds is pretty respectable on this given day! Jason has also traveled south with us to the morel hunting contest in Jonesboro IL. No trophies yet, but he has been finding more and more each year!

In 2001 a gentleman named Craig from Minnesota wanted to learn the Morelmaster way to hunt morels. We took him out for a 6 hour hunt. Boy, once we gave him some tips he caught on fast! While walking along a woodline Craig decides to step into the woods to check a nice looking freshly dead Elm Tree. He was speechles for a moment and then he reveals to us that there were morels everywhere! Craig, Brett, and I picked around 175 morels totalling 11 pounds under this tree. At the season's end it was one of the top spots found that year! We keep in touch via the Internet. Craig now tells us he is finding twice as many morels than in the past!
