Raphael



Raphael was born at Urbino in 1483. After his father died in 1497, he was placed Pietro Perugino, the most distinguished painter of the time. In 1504 Raphael visited Florence, where he seemed to stay until 1508 when he was invited to Rome by the pope.

Raphael's work is usually divided into three classes: his first style, when under Perugino; his second, when he painted in Florence; and his third, which is what he did after he settled in Rome. Raphael died in Rome on April 6, 1520, which was his birthday.
