1. YOUR REACTION (3 pages typed): What message did you get from this book?
- For whom was the book written? Was the author successful in getting his/her
message across (why/why not)
- What are the good/bad points of the book?Tell why a friend should or
shouldn’t read the book. INCLUDE EXAMPLES FROM THE NOVEL TO
SUPPORT YOUR REVIEW.
- Did the novel help YOU in any way?
2. Write an alternative ending for the novel (minimum of 3 pages typed).
3. Write a short story based upon the same theme, subject, or characters as the novel
that you read.
4. Draw a map of where the story takes place and label all of the important places. On
a separate sheet of paper, explain how the places were used in the novel.
5. Find any combination of 3 appropriate songs or poems that relate to the theme or
subject of your novel. Write out the words/lyrics and then explain how it or they
relate to your novel. Include the basic plot of the book.
6. Interview at least 2 of the characters from the novel and “publish” your interview for
a magazine. You may want to include pictures.
7. Create an informational brochure on the setting (location) of your novel. Make it
appealing to travelers. Include facts from the area, population, weather, etc.
8. Keep a journal entry by chapter through the viewpoint of the main character. Each
journal entry must be a complete paragraph with a minimum of 5 sentences
each.
9. Write a summary of the plot (minimum of 3 pages typed).
10. Create a videotape of one of the scenes of your novel. Include a complete script
with the tape. The script must be clearly related to your novel and a minimum
of 4 pages typed.
11. Research one of the events that occurred in your novel. Minimum of 3 pages
typed. (ex: WWII, hurricanes - The Cay)
12. Rewrite the novel and create a children’s book based entirely on the novel.
Include pictures and easier vocabulary.
13. Complete a detailed time line of the events (in order) that occurred in the novel.
14. Using Inspiration (computer program), create a character map of 2 of the
characters and a map of the story’s plot.
15. Create a game based on the novel. Specific details from the novel must be
included.
16. Create a mobile of the characters, steps of the plot, setting, etc.
17. Create an actual staircase to illustrate the steps of the plot of your novel. Be sure
to include the climax and the resolution.
18. Create your own poem or song based on the story. Be sure to include specific
information from your novel.
19. Create a cereal box or pizza wheel for your novel.
20. Create a family scrapbook that includes all of the characters and what they did in
the book. Any memorabilia, “photos”, etc. would help create the scrapbook.
