900RR Mutation Page

This is the second 1993 CBR900RR I have owned. after totaling the first one and completely rebuilding it I sold it after crashing it the second time. I purchased this one after riding ducati for a while, it was pre-crashed so hopefully it's done doing that. Hopefull plans included 945cc kit and NOS but as we all know money is an object. So instead, the head is ported and polished, new sprockets and RK chain, crank balanced and lightened and the airbox, filter, carb and custom exhaust mods! Keep checking Back for progress, and weither or not I can afford a nitrous kit!

december 2001

This part really sucks. But, you do get quite the buzz from Bondo!

Rear signals moved into taillight.

january 20ish, tank at painters. finished painting the rest of the bodywork, planning on taking it to get stripped and repainted. if i ever think of painting my own stuff again, someone please kick me in the head!

january 23rd, motor pulled apart to replace head gasket and valve seals. while accessable porting and polishing will be done.

febuary 5th, got the tank back and it is perfect. port and polish is complete. probibly removed close to a half a pound of aluminum from the head. exhaust ports practically doubled in size! restriction? we dont need no stinkin resrtiction!

febuary 21st, split the cases to remove the crank! goodnews: shift drum and forks, all new! bad news: tranny is trashed, there goes another $300!

febuary 22nd, the entire bike is back in one city! untill i send the gears to florida for machining. :( frame polishing is just about done. advice for anyone that wants to polish a frame... DON'T DO IT! it sucks! no, you dont understand, it really SUCKS. and not in a good way! if you attempt to do it, worlds will crumble and moons will colide! and you will not get the aluminum taste out of you mouth for months!

febuary 27th, frame is polished, head is reassembled! now, we just sit untill the tranny is sent out.

febuary 29th, thank god the polishing is done. new upper is installed and the mirror dilema is solved, found some universal ones that fit and look decent. calipers and master cylinders removed and disasembled, powdercoater should be here end of next week. color scheme is decided- black (of course) silver, chrome and yellow highlights. no, it will not look like a bumble bee! i may do a fast install on the motor to begin building the exhaust, yes i could buy one but that would cost money so i will just cobble one together! the purpose, low profile and of course LOUD!

march 1st, a little welding and the exhaust is ready, shorty muffler right off the header! it should melt nicely!

march 7th, i am now powdercoating in my apartment! there goes the rest of my security deposit! it is turning out pretty well though, considering this is the first time i have done it. the yellow is taking two coats but looks killer. muffler is welded. more pics are coming soon if paine gets off his ass and mails them to me.

march 14th, the last of the powdercoating should be done now. just waiting on the crank, tranny and painting. have to get some more stickers made for the tail section since i trashed the last bunch with my lousy painting skills.

march 17th, morning spent designing new decals. time to go be irish!

april 7th, exhaust done and this is how she sits right now. waiting on stickers, tranny, crank and the root of it all- $$$.

May 5th, ok, getting tired of having pieces everywhere. tail section going to painter on tues, should have back in a week. if crank isnt done by then it is just going back together. should still have good performance with all the other mods done, would have been nice though.

May 12th, tail section with new stickers is at painters. rear rim is due here any minuite for coating, crank was promised this weekend, all parts are here (hopefully). day off is tuesday and all is going back together then! pray for good weather this weekend!

this has been the most expensive project i have done..... more favors have been asked and deals have been made. thanks to everyone.

(paine, rick, mark, mike, manny and bob).

May 17th, tail section gets picked up tomorrow, in 500 miles valve adjust and dyno.

July 11th, this fucking piece of shit is really pissing me off! new batt, new head, stator wires toasted in the harness. anybody want to steal it?

August 18th, i've been riding it for a while now, replaced the #1 & 4 coil and that pretty much fixed it. jetting is still a bit off so i have to muster the motivation to adjust that get it dynoed then possibly swith back to the ported and polished head. the head gasket is $70 which dosent help the motivation. Before and after pics will be up soon.

BEFORE

AFTER (finally)

The loud end!

Powder coat and exhaust detail.

october 12th, it has been a while since ive done anything on here but the bike has been getting worked on between an attempted theft, ($50 ignition switch) (bastards) the s-pipe has been redone to eliminate the midrange dip and now its having an intermitant charging problem. just broke 18,000 miles and the plan is to pull it all apart again for more powder coating, front rim, frame and some other parts. i know there is some damage in the wiring harness so hopefully i can get that fixed while the frame is out getting coated.

no more pics right now but, on order is new valve guide seals for the less agressively polished head, ignition advancer and progressive front springs. i think i found the ticket for the exhaust and now just need a better header.

more pics will be up soon too!
