University of Wisconsin-Superior

American Indian Student Organization

The University of Wisconsin-Superior American Indian Student Organization is one of the oldest student organizations on the UWS campus. We have a long standing tradition of great student leadership and fun cultural activities. The A.I.S.O. is a culturally diverse group of students from all academic areas, who like to plan and participate in activities that are both fun and educational. Part of our mission is to break down cultural stereotypes and to build understanding of cultural diversity. The purpose of our organization is

A. To enhance American Indian awareness to the University of Wisconsin – Superior students and the Twin Ports communities.

B. To serve as a focal point of identification for the American Indian community.

C. To recruit American Indian students into higher education.

D. The retention of American Indian students enrolled in post-secondary schools.

In order to accomplish these goals, we are planning to sponsor various events throughout the 2004-2005 academic year. These events include Native dance classes, potlucks, seasonal parties, a silent auction, participation in educational conferences, Native American Literature Night, assist with Native American Art Night and host an annual Pow Wow. These events are incredible assets to both the University and the Twin Ports Area as they are open to the community and campus alike. Historically, they have been very successful. In fact, we have had attendances that have exceeded 1500 people.
