Hello and welcome to WebAids Beginner. You are about to embark on a very enjoyable journey. The internet, at first can seem very ominous. It's really not that hard, once you learn a few things. If you 'rightclick' (pushing down your right mouse button) when your 'cursor' (that little Arrow thingy that you move around with your mouse) is on any page, a little gray box 'thingy' will come up. These are 'shortcuts'. Depending on the type of page that you're on, a 'different' type of thingy will come up. If you 'right click' on a .txt page (a page that is in text format, the little thingy will not have as many options as if you were on a .gif, .jpg (these are graphics, some showing pictures, some showing others things.
CLICKING:
When you move your mouse cursor, ('the little pointer') over anything and it turns into a little 'hand', it is 'clickable', meaning that if you push down on your mouse button while it is a 'hand' you will be taken to another site.
DEFRAGING:
You should 'defrag' your hard drive HD, regularly. As you use your computer, it gets 'fragmented' which slows down the processing time. To do this, go into windows & find and double click 'defrag'. I believe that the defrag info is self-explainitory.
BOOK MARKING:
To 'book mark' (copy/save the URL to your favorites or bookmarks) the 'web site address' or 'URL',
(Universal Resourse Locator) that shows up in your browser window, hold down & release the 'ctrl+d' keys on your key board
(that's the 'quick & easy' way to 'book mark') or click on 'Favorites' (Internet Explorer) or 'Book Marks' (Netscape.)
COPYING/PASTING:
Here's how to 'copy & paste' &/or 'save' text. You can use any word processor such as note pad, or any that you may choose to use. By holding down your mouse button as you slide/move your mouse over the text that you want to copy, it will be 'hi-lited', (it changes color.) Now release the mouse button and the text remains hi-lited.
Now
if you hold down & release your 'ctrl+c' keys on your computer, whatever you've hi-lited is held in a 'buffer'. Now open up/click on 'note pad' and a 'note-pad' 'window' will open up and a cursor will be flashing in the window.
Now all you have to do is: Hold down & release the 'ctrl+v' buttons and the text (that was hi-lited) will now appear in the note pad window, or any
word processor that you've chosen. Click on 'file' in the upper left hand corner of note pad & scroll down to 'save' or 'save as' & then all you have to do is name it whatever you'd like to call the 'file' that you've just created. If you want it to be a text file, then you must save it in .txt ending, but if you want to make it into an html file, then you save it in .html ending. When using the .html ending, when you click on it, it will open up in your browser window and it will look the same as it does on the internet.
UPLOADING:
To upload a file, it is easiest to use an ftp (File Transfer Protocol) program. To Download (dl) a free ftp program, go to any Search Engine and type ftp. Or you can:
