Descendants of William JONES

First Generation

1. William JONES was born about 1708 in ,,,Wales.

LDS microfile #1395730, batch F839404, sheet 40.

"Keeper of the Queen of England's wardrobe."

Of the many early marriages between the English and the Welsh, we are
interested in only one, concerning which our only information is from the
opening paragraph of the autobigraphy of one of the descendants, the noted
Baptist minister, Elder Wilson Thompson, which is as follows: "I have learned
that my great-grandmother was an English lady, and that she married a Welshman,
whose name was Jones. Whether this marriage took place before they came to
America or after, I have not learned; but all of their children were born in
America. I have no knowledge of any more than five of them; and, most likely,
there were no more. At all events, of those who lived to maturity, two were
sons and three were daughters: James; Thomas; Nancy; Mary; Jane." This Jones
family settled in North Carolina and at an early date emigrated to Kentucky,
locating not far from Lexington. The following history of them was written
from data collected from: Mrs. Grace Pentecost and the autobography of her
great-grandfather, Elder Wilson Thompson; traditions, recollections and records
of the family of Elder Benjamin Jones (most of the records in the possession of
his great-grandson, Elder Samuel J. West); gravestone inscriptions; church
records and records of Rush and Boone Counties, Indiana.

The "Jones Family History" was probably prepared by Roy Bernis Jones. It may
have been prepared around 1970, the 100th anniversary of the Antioch Primitive
Baptist Church, yet much of the information does not appear up to date as of
that year.

he was a beloved member of the Regular Baptist Church. The name of his wife is
not known [BRC: possibly Thompson?] but he had five sons: Thomas, James,
